  • In this video, I discuss the central concept and smaller components that give Octopath Traveler one of the most unique narratives in JRPG history.

While I aggree with almost everything you said and think that you did a really good job of presenting your points, I think that Ophilia's story is one of the only ones that COULD be it's own full game. This is because of the consequences that are significantly more dire to the wellbeing of Orsterra than those of the other stories. What I really want to see is an anime (or manga) that shows all of these 8 stories (or at least some of them since Tressa's is unimportant to the overall plot) unravelling at the same time and culminating in the postgame boss.

ZKatt I actually never considered that, but now that i think about i do think Ophilia could have her own story. i do still think it functions better with with the other 7 because her first three chapters really bored me. but yeah i kinda forgot her last chapter’s stakes, it would be cool to know more about mattias and perhaps even the kindling tradition

Octopath was easily my Game of the Year when it launched. An incredible game with a wonderful concept that was full of heart and charm. You did a wonderful job giving it proper love and praise. Subscribing to see more.

@@joshshackelford889 you praised how each story was bite sized and simple, but the presentation and freedom to experience in any order and swap around made it a very unique and enjoyable experience, and the fact that each story is it's own contained narrative gives it a lot of charm and stands out because of it. Both of which were aspects I have loved about the game. You also said that the idea of bringing people from different corners of the world naturally allows for expression and creative use of things like different biomes and environments. Lots I agreed with !

I really don't get why people were so surprised by the structure of having 8 different stories. It's like what you and the director said, that was it's selling point. I thought it was cool and helped differentiate itself; it's part of why I got the game.

Nice analysis. I played for 94 hours and I agree. I never felt fatigue in a given story because I could just play another one :)
