Press & hold Alt (PC) or Opt (Mac) as you hover your cursor between the 2 layers. When you see the clipping icon appear, click down. This makes the adjustment layer clip only to the layer below it.

Railfanner532...You can also make a clipping mask by pressing Alt + Ctrl + G on a PC...... or Opt + Cmd + G on a Mac.
