    In my local wrestling league, one of their major heels is a guy in a Jason mask named Voorhees, he kinda wrestles like Erick Rowan and for some reason has the cocky, arrogant heel manager, a la Jim Cornette. It's really weird watching him wrestle, but he's one of their main event talent, so you just accept it after a while

    There's a likely common thread for most of these final matches (or at least the ones that involve legends way past their prime or in no condition to perform) and that's some degree of poverty/desperation at that stage in their lives. It's sad that so many come to the end of the road like this. It's good that guys like DDP are reaching out to make a difference where they can.

    If you allow me to make a more serious and better list:
    10 Mitsuharu Misawa: In a tag match that ended horribly, at least he passed away doing what he loved.
    9 Nigel McGuinness: Vs a young talent in an indy (at least he put him over)
    8 Jerry Lynn: In a small indy match where his career was celebrated and commemorated.
    7 William Regal: Vs Cesaro in a nice NXT Match
    6 Kris Travis: Vs his friend Marty Scurll, where he helped Scurll to turn heel
    5 Edge: Vs Del Rio WM27 (Say what you want, the match wasn't bad at all)
    4 Kenta Kobashi: 8 man tag match with his longtime friends and rivals
    3 Trish Stratus: by defeating old rival Lita and winning the Women's title one last time (let's pretend her WM27 match never happened since this guy did the same in some cases)
    2 Steve Austin: Vs The Rock WM19
    1 Shawn Michaels: Vs Taker WM26
    Tried my best :)

    • @stevenzack1497
      @stevenzack1497 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kenta Kobashi's "Final Burning" retirement match is my favorite career ender of all time. The team of Kobashi, Keiji Mutoh (Great Muta), Kensuke Sasaki, and Jun Akiyama is mark out city for fans of Japanese pro wrestling.

    • @emigrant1510
      @emigrant1510 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @105822516236986684203 Not only that, but their rivals were one really good lineup (if we excuse Taniguchi, of course) You had KENTA & Go Shiozaki who were Kobashi's trainees, You also had Kanemaru, who didn't dissapoint in that match.

    • @stevenzack1497
      @stevenzack1497 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apparently the thought behind the match was two fold. 1. They had to have a tag match since Kobashi's knees were in such bad shape and 2. the "kiddie" team was representing stars that Kobashi had mentored. It was an entertaining match and I especially liked the ending where Mutoh, an absolute wrestling god in Japan, insisting that Kobashi get the winning pin.

    On October 18, 2003 I had the privilege to ref a 6-Man Tag Match in Jackson, Michigan for the All World Wrestling League (the evolution of Ed Farhat aka the Sheiks Big Time Wrestling). In it Road Warrior Hawk tagged along side ECW legend Sabu. In the end Hawk scored the pin fall and cut his signature "what a rush" promo. Hawk would sadly pass away the next night.
    While I don't think it belongs on the list I thought it an interesting story about the final match of a legend. As a side note the match meant so much to me I traveled to Atlanta for wrestlemania to see the Road Warriors inducted into the WWE HOF.

    Chris Benoit's last match was notable both for his opponent, Elijah Burke, who would later move to TNA and rename himself "The Pope", but also for the match that he didn't make. That Sunday, Benoit was slated to face CM Punk in the final of the ECW Championship tournament. But Benoit never showed up, and the rest is history.

    I remember Ric Flair's final match against Shawn Michaels in WWE.
    the next night he came to Raw and said his final farewell. it was
    pretty upsetting. I have to admit that I actually cried. really was
    not expecting him to show up in TNA several weeks later. I am
    glad that he did. if he didn't then we wouldn't of had Fortune.

    Jake the Snake - the one match near the end where he was so hammered he could barely get into the ring. And his opponent of the night so disgusted with the situation that he berated the Snake in front of the whole crowd. Jake will always top the list as to final 'bad' matches.

    Road Warrior Hawk's final match was in a small fed in Michigan run by relatives of Sabu. They used the name Big Time Wrestling. He was in a 6 man tag. He died like a week after that show I believe.

    I was at that Asylum Championship Wrestling show (afterwards I would work for the company as a ring announcer/referee/manager) and I do agree it did not look like the Dr. Death I remember in the NWA. But got to meet him backstage and he was a great guy and there was talk of trying to bring him back to ACW, but that never happened for obvious reasons. My little moment with him after the show was a great memory I have of Dr. Death.

    Kurt Hennig deserved so much better than that. I doubt young fans really get how great he was. I was a huge fan as a kid and I remember the first time I saw him live he was defending the Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship and when he won I went apeshit. I fucking loved Mr. Perfect. He was one of the all-time greats.

    Say what you want about Savage's last match in TNA, it was a clusterfuck of a 6 man tag, and he was moving a little slower than in the past as you'd imagine with age beginning to catch up. BUT he was NOT out of shape in the way that he looked. I'm not too sure why he wore the top, but you only have to look at other photos of him around the same time in vest-tops etc. to see that he was still actually (visually at least) in very good shape. I know he had back issues at that time, but you wouldn't have known by looking at him.

    • @ChristopherNeeme

      It's tough to say. The photos you refer to were from about a year or so earlier when he was promoting his music, this match was at the beginning of 2005. Savage was well known to be insecure and was very adamant about always looking his best. He had obviously stopped using steroids and he was more lean than ever. The last people had seen of him in wrestling was at his biggest in the Spider-Man scene. As a big fan, I'm glad he had this last appearance because WWE was clearly not going to use him. It extended his legacy within wrestling to include working with Aj and Jeff Hardy. But at the same time, I think I'm glad he realized it was time to hang it up right after.
