one 5 car unit is the Metropolitan line's current RAT, with others in storage to jump in and take over if it fails. It currently resides at Neasden depot and comes out mainly during the autumn and winter months to spread a sandy mixture on the rails for better traction. Other D Stock units are working on other rail network operators around the UK. Miss the D Stock when they operated on the District Line.
I miss these classic D78 trains 😢. The new stock rolled out dosnt give me the spirit of the district line anymore. Why did they scrap these trains, that d78 stock was perfect. 😭
@@wisehat_yt I remember pre D78 tube stock, they were either red or silver, think the S7 stock irritating with its door buzzers and hard seating, the PA’s are far too loud, a female station names, then a male “Please mind the gap between the train and platform” on long distance far too much. S8’s were slightly better with their forward facing seats, but irritating based upon my comments about the S7 stock.
@@jacksugden8190 fair enough the only reason why i think it’s better is mainly because of the aircon and… well that’s about it tbh if the D stock had aircon also then i would prefer the D stock
@@wisehat_yt D stock had long loading alighting times due to their single leaf doors, they were in poor condition and too old for LU to invest in, plus they wanted train sets with the same sized wheels that they could transfer from one line to another.
Blackfriars is certainly much better, although the platforms look rather thin to me compared to other stations. When the station becomes a major interchange again it will probably get quite busy on those platforms.
The D Stock was the last Sub-Surface Underground train batch to sound like a Underground train, whereas the S Stock doesn't sound like any Underground train of the past.
Blackfriars is great, but the Mainline platforms are so long, you have to run so much from the barriers from the Tube on the Southbound to get to the rear of a 4 car mainline. Thats the only complaint I have about Blackfriars.
I miss that door open chime they added during refurbishment

I kinda wish they stayed for atleast 20 more years
yeah I don't really understand it, they had plenty of life left in them they didn't need to be scrapped
Yeah, I miss the D-Stock, but they were converted into the Class 484 on the Island Line.
thank you for uploading this video.
did you guys notice the “Please mind the gap between the train and the platform” is the exact same as the one on the Central Line?
Because it’s the same voice.
They were so much nicer than those lousy S7’s that currently occupy the line, I remember the D78 class when new, would ride them to Upminster.
you can’t lie, the S stocks are better

@@wisehat_yt I was never that keen on air-con trains, same issue on those new TfL Rail and Overground trains, had to get up and move due to the cold .

Most of old london trains before 1980s wear spectacles except 1959 Stock, 1960 Stock, A Stock, 1973 Stock, D Stock
R.I.P. D Stock 28 January 1980-21 April 2017
My favourite stocks are the C, D, 1992, 2009, 1996, and S stocks
So all of them. Lol
@Johnashward212 mmmm nah not really. Didn't mention the 72 73 stocks. Nor the 95 stock.
@@Great_WesternTVFan mmmm all but 3 😂😂
This is a district line train to Wimbledon
I like the D stock
Me too I miss D stock train with 1 door not the 2 door train They did it With Rail Adhension train

2009 stock....
@@account-now-closed The 2009 TS is not a batch of Sub-Surface Underground trains, the 2009 is Tube Stock not Sub-Surface Stock.
Same announcements used on central line, you got the metropolitan vibes
Have they rebuilt black friars
Yes they have. Looks better than what it use to by the looks of it :)
Ah, good old times 😁
03:58 is my favourite platform mind the gap announcement

At least the trains are 12 coaches now
they need it to be that long so that the train can fit in. oh, and it alsl has entrances on both sides of the river because of it, which is useful
I wonder if they did Central Line with S Stock Train
they cant use s stock trains with deep tube trains
Sub surface trains won't fit in the deep tube tunnels
The current fleet of trains on the Central will sound similar once they’ve been fitted with their new traction motors.
They will sound like the S stock eventually because of the new pack of traction motors
The platforms are also quite thin.
