What I found was in the two “IKE” movies,(Tom Selleck) in how they covered parts of Eisenhower’s life as the overall person in charge of where,&when the invasion would occur.
But, the Selleck version made absolutely no mention of Kay Somersby role.
Where this one, really did seem to show more of what “IKE” had to deal with, not only with “Monty”, but with several others in his command. I was impressed and hope that this was how it really was over in Europe.

Thankfully, Tom's movie completely eliminated the slightest mention of Kay. Her considerable film time, did, as has been mentioned, turn Duvall's movie into a quasi-soap opera.

Our military deserves so much. As a Vietnam combat engineer vet I've seen the worst of dreams, I've embraced the unbridled bond that brothers create through horrible circumstances and I have embraced the military's strength through a unity that no civilian life style can copy. This movie, albeit "Hollywood-ized", still makes me proud to serve and to those who have not I ask Why not?

My 2 late uncles were in WW2. ONE was in the Army CORPS of Engineers and his first went into Buchenwald Concentration something you never get over. Hell on earth.
My second was in the 394th Bombing Group in the MIGHTY 8TH ARMY AIR FORCE a tail gunner in a B-17. Flying out of England to bomb Nazi Germany.
As I see the scenes in 1:04:43 bombing Germany think of him.
My dad is the last of the brothers he's a Korean War Vet, USN and still very active at 91. Volunteering at his church 3 times a week, once volunteering in the hospital parking lot picking up people driving them to their car. Working with the DAV, ringing the Christmas bells for the Salvation Army each year.

Darrin MacGavin's portrayal of George S. Patton, totally conflicts with the George C. Scott performance.
In this movie, Patton, in discussing "The Battle of The Bulge" situation seems somewhat 'subdued'. He doesn't display the much celebrated aggressive tenacity that's displayed in "Patton".
At 00:48:26, Ike asks Patton to break the German encirclement of Bastogne, and relieve the beleaguered 101st Airborne Div.

    • @nomadmarauder-dw9re
      @nomadmarauder-dw9re 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Read War As I Knew It. Patton was ordered to send 10th A.D. to Bastogne, under protest. So, when he said he'd attack with 3 Divisions, one was already there. Even if technically it now belonged to Bradley. And the 10th stopped the Germans cold.

"Eighth Army"? The US didn't have an Eighth Army in Europe. Simpson's Ninth Army was cut off to the north of the "bulge" from the rest of Bradley's 12th Army Group, and temporarily put under Montgomery's 21st Army Group. The army to the south of the bulge was Patton's Third.
Really surprised at an error like this.

Sumerby's book is partially what this is based on. Her book was disputed by all the main players that you see in this movie.
It sickens me how they came out with this movie and it credits her side of the story which is a young woman's fantasy at best.
Hollywood would love you to believe that Eisenhower had an affair. They hated him.

Wether fighting abroad in foreign lands or right here in our country today against those who have forgotten why America is so great made up of a diverse people with different nationalities , it’s this exact same reason then vs as we today but with a few selected career politicians in charge of America today via no doubt their hypocrisy on Al scandalous hypocritical ways , we will never be defeated in any way so as Americans have always paid the ultimate price for freedom we have never forgotten nor ever will forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice which is each & every Americans responsibility to never let anyone no matter who from politicians to tyrants to tread on our ways of freedom that has been bought by the blood of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice being I cannot help to feel soon that we will be making history again except within our own country fighting our own political dictators so must we never forget the ultimate price that millions if soldiers have paid with their lives & blood , the ultimate price for freedom , from freedom of speech to our Golden Constitutional Amendments ; God bless all those who have paid this price for the sake of freedom around the world !!!
