Even though I am not voting for Trump, I do agree that it is not a state decision. States cannot just go rogue for the election of the President of the United States. As far as the the 14th amendment goes, I do think that it does imply that Congress would decide this and Trump was impeached for this but not convicted. The amendment said Congress could overturn this decision by 2/3 vote. It mentions nothing about conviction. This is not silly. This also needs to be addressed. It is a 2 part question. One part is answered. The other part has not been addressed by congress. They should also address gerrymandering. This also disenfranchises peoples right to vote in a Presidential election.

Wrong, it's not up to the people it's up to Congress. That is who has jurisdiction to decide if someone is barred from holding federal office under Section 3 of the 14th amendment. Not the people.

@@danielgant2214For those seeking federal office it is for Congress to decide the issue of Section 3 of the 14th amendment, and whether the individual is barred from holding office due to insurrection or treason. Not the courts, civil or criminal. Not the people. Historically none of those who have been barred were adjudicated in civil or criminal court of having done so, nor were they impeached for it by congress. It's a political matter and it is your peers in Congress that decide if someone who might seek office is barred from holding it due to am act insurrection or treason. There need not be any convictions or civil determinations in court or an impeachment. It is separate from any statute for Insurrection and treason it is simply a requirement for holding office just like age or other factors. And it is the politicians in Congress who decide that.

As to the superiority of my viewpoints, that is certainly intentional and is intended to be an in-kind response in this situation because that was the flavor of the comment I responded to. The condescension is really almost required here because there aren't many pro Trump voices in these comments that will engage in a point by point debate of the facts because there is no path for them to prove their ideology. March 25th, dude, criminal trial. I don’t think anyone would be attending one of those if they “never broke any law”.
Trump 1) pushed state officials to change counts; 2) pressured Michigan officials to toss Biden's 2020 win; 3) attempted to use fake electors; 4) pushed his allies to get voter machine data; 5) pressured Pence to refuse to certify the electoral votes; 6) *_incited the violent storming of Congress to stop the certification;_* 7) filed and lost 62 frivolous, baseless, meritless court cases illegitimately contesting the results of the 2020 election; 8) ran a year long campaign (prior to the election) undermining the integrity of the election and of early and mail-in ballots. An all out attack on the American democracy and constitution.

I fully expect Trump to lose Colorado, as CO is almost as blue as CA. I wasn't concerned about him being off of their ballot, but I'm so happy about this decision since other states started following Colorado's lead. I'm also hoping Colorado's few Republicans will now vote out of anger!
