What I heard about east St. Louis is that the crime isn’t bad it just sad but it used to be dangerous now it’s just abandoned and a lot of poor people but my grand parents still live here in Washington park they been living there since 1960 but there’s still a lot of nice people over there where my grandparents are but the crime is getting lower just very ghetto and hood maybe more like north side is the worst part

I was once a paramedic in East St. Louis and Washington Park. It was the worst time of my life. That includes 8 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. I recall a family from Utah who's family van broke down in Washington Park on a cross country trip. The family was waiting for AAA to show up. 1) they had been stranded for four hours waiting (because at the time, AAA took their time getting to that area) and 2) THEY HAD BEEN ROBBED TWICE during that time. The second time, the dad was assaulted, which was why I was called. Terrible times. Although, there are some amazing and good people who live there, holding out hope that it'll get better, it just makes it all the more sad.

That’s awful. Not a town I would want to be stranded in for sure. East saint Louis and Washington park have gone so down hill. It’s pretty sad. Now the strip clubs have moved in and the people are moving out. Drug trafficking is huge. I drove through the town earlier today to go to the junkyard. I was driving down the main drag when I gentleman maybe 20 years old, on a bicycle turned off of a road. Instead of continuing on the sidewalk, he took the turn wide and decided to ride in the middle of the lane. He pulled out in front of me and I swerved to avoid hitting him. Not sure what was going through his mind or if he wanted me to stop for God knows what reason but he spit on my truck. I had no reaction but to get out of there lol. It’s unfortunate. I was just on my merry way lol. The train horn I’m currently installing on my truck wouldve come in handy for sure lol. And thank you for your service!

East Saint louis was originally known as Illinois Town or Illinoistown, it was where the train ended their journey west and unloaded. The materials was loaded onto boats and over to the Missouri. Maternal Family settled this area around 1890, they were Irish/German/French.

Born in Belleville in the late 70's. Grew up in Wahington Park, attended Manners Elementary I remember Principal Reed and Mr. Stokes. Donuts from Rosemont Bakery. My childhood home on 64th burned down years after we moved. Moved across the viaduct to Fairmont City around 9 or 10 and later to Granite City directly across the street from the steel mill, about 2 blocks from the tracks that seperated Granite and Madison... it was a tough up-bringing.

The area is interesting because of "how far back the communities date back". Cahokia Mounds is all that is left of the Mississippian culture that ruled this region from about 1000 AD to 1350 AD. The society may have failed due to overuse of natural resources, or internal or external tribal warfare, etc. There were no records that survived, written or otherwise, other than perhaps scant oral tradition.

He lost his life because of a no knock warrant. We shoot first then ask questions later. The system failed their officer. You can’t come to a neighborhood and try to kick someone door in. Had he announced his presence the situation would’ve been different. Our police aren’t that bad for someone to be just shooting them. Only because the guy was a felon was the reason he was charged. I just wanted to correct your information for you. Just like these foreigners that come into the city doing these videos are not from here they tell their own stories about a city they only hear about. If that’s the case these cities are everywhere in different states so don’t be so quick to judge what you don’t know

I got to conv store on edge of town, and I was warned not to walk thru town, and that was about 79. i got a ride to bus term in St L and had to wait for like 8 hrs well into the night there to get on bus. It’s true about the downfall of ESTL if you walk down the streets where the tall abandoned skyscrapers are you can see cables hanging and it’s sad cause restaurants still operate in that area. I saw a dude get hit by his babymomma in a car right there infront of the metrolink 5th and Missouri Ave.

Used to live here. I've lived in all black towns and all white towns. Its all about how you act.
If your car breaks down, and you act like you are terrified and about to get robbed, always looking over your shoulder. People pick up on that.
Next time, act like you are in the safest neighborhood in the country. Like you've lived there your entire life. Someone acts aggressive in conversation? Be passive aggressive back. Taught my white friends there who were scared this and they never got messed with again.
Kinda random, but reminds me of an avatar quote i heard when I was younger.
"Toruks the baddest cat in the sky, nothing attacks him, so why would he look up?"
Think about it, if I'm walking down the worst street in the country, with over the ear headphones, not a care in the world. People think, either A.) You have protection. Or B.) You're from there.

That is so very true! I used to work at St. Marys hospital there in the late 70's. While riding my motorcycle home after working a 3-11 shift, it broke down and was going nowhere. This was a little after midnight and in a pretty rough looking part of town. Out of nowhere 2 dudes came up to me asking if I needed help. And they were sincere! I honestly believe that by keeping my cool and not acting intimidated made the difference in avoiding what could have possibly been an unpleasant situation.

I have been through there and it is not a place you want to live. The best part of the videos is when you tell the truth. You are looking at stats and at the neighborhood. People who are reacting negatively to your video are part of the problem and not the solution. I have seen several of your videos and you are right in all of them. The numbers don't lie and the environment doesn't lie. I would like to say that ESL has a bright future, but so far it seems not to have a bright future. It will take a major investor to buy up property, but it will be expensive to clean up the brownfields and there are plenty of them. Keep up the good videos and don't be afraid to keep telling the truth.

I guess the mayor of Chicago is not successfully bringing in homeless drug addicts like those cities due to the hostile winter conditions. San Francisco pays you $625 a month to smoke crack and living in street tents. I think many politicians, mainly Democrats in particular, seize power to a city or a state & destroy it. They tax residents into oblivion and keep the money for themselves. They’re sympathetic to criminals & gangs. They love pinning Americans against each other leading to riots.
