The pure athleticism on the seal bay is magnificent. To his rider, I am so impressed at your light hand and ability to follow him no matter what! Great place to start- a horse that is so willing and a rider that trusts him and just allows him to learn :) The rest of you are brilliant and brave, as well.
For everyone have a going "that the horses are being held back", I dont know these people or their horses, but its obvious the dark bay is a dressage horse, so obviously hes not going to be perfect, the chestnut looks young and green, and the rider could've been nervous about jumping him, and the bay looked really strong and fast, so it was understandable she would hold him back!
exactly! if you don't hold them back, they're obviously going to just rush and botl at the jumps, mess up the stridign and most likely fall especially if their inexperienced
@@elliteequine3785 because the rider posted a video from that exact cross country ride, he's her friends horse and she was just giving him a go at cross country :)
@@cassl4064 if you go to eddisgun91 channel then you can find a video where she rides the same dark bay horse and in the description she says that he is a dressage horse and had recently just started jumping
I wonder if jumping hurts that little chestnut, he jumps so strangely...he looks stiff and doesn't use his back legs like the other horses, and keeps refusing. or he could just be a quirky, stubborn jumper lol
solarphoenix999 The rider has a strong bit and spurs. Strong bit = for a strong horse only. Spurs = for a lazy horse. It doesn't make any sense! She even has double reins. If you use spurs and have a lazy horse, you use single reins! And a snaffle bit. You can't have a strong and lazy horse. This girl can't ride, or has any knowledge :') she also doesn't give rein so when the horse jumps he can't see where he's gonna land, which adds to his jump being confused and unsure.
Gosh there's a lot of wrong information in this thread.... First off, that's a Pelham in his mouth, not a kimberwicke, as kimberwickes are only ridden on one rein and Pelhams on two. The Pelham can be a very strong bit or a fairly soft one, due to the fact that the snaffle and curb are on separate reins and the rider can choose how much curb action to use. This ride doesn't appear to be riding too hard on the curb, but you can see the horse gets quite strong coming into the jumps, so that's probably why she's opted for a Pelham, so she can have more leverage if he gets out of control. As for spurs, please don't pull out that George Morris crap about putting them on every horse... Some horses respond better to them, some horses hate them, but similar to the idea of a Pelham, a rider can put leg on without spurring their horse, even when wearing spurs! It's an optional aid - that's why you put them on your heel, which you should not be squeezing with, and not your calf, which you should.
Crockett Miller you dont have to wear spurs when riding. Just because george morris said so doesnt mean u do. Its all up to the horse and riders ability
Woah, the dark bay jumps so flipping high xDD My horse sucks at jumping (western horse.. heh) but i might take english jumping lessons (HOPE HOPE HOPEEEEE) so yeh! Awesome!

Possibly more to do with control, and the fact that the horse may be strong, than anything else. No point having a nice jump if you can't stop the buggar!

Just in the woods when you occasionally find some fallen tree or a stream, you can try to jump it ... Well, in 2012 I had to sell my TB mare, the last horse I had. I don't think she is using the spurs for the reason you think they are there for. spurs are designed to give specific touches to the horse to ask them to do something. hence why in dressage they use them to get specific movements. She keeps her leg very still and doesn't bash or constantly prod him so I think she uses them more to help him understand her leg commands. :)
If you watch the pony, he's quite strong coming into the fence, and then wants to stop right before it. Thus a stronger bit to check him coming in and a whip to actually get him over the jump.
I agree that bit isn't appropriate as she pulls it in the mouth as it jumps quite often. Probably why it's stopping making it a vicious circle. Don't know why her instructor hasn't changed that
