- This Norton Rotary bike was one of the original bikes ridden by Robert Dunlop
00:00 - Meet the owner
02:13 - Fire up
03:18 - Leaving the pits
03:47 - Flat out!
We had a great weekend hanging out and riding at the Adelaide Motorsport Festival. One of the awesome bikes taking part in the parade laps was Steve's Norton JPS rotary as previously ridden by Robert Dunlop.
Take a ride around the short Adelaide street circuit as Steve gives it some stick for the crowds.

I saw Robert Dunlop race this bike at the NW 200 with my Son and what a race that was Robert Won the race and on the last lap going past us at the railway embankment up to church he was way out in front my Son was jumping up and down with enjoyment seeing him going through what a day what a race what a man and what a fantastic sound and bike never forgotten best day of proper road racing MAGIC!!!!.
I've done the TT 4 times, but definitely want to get to the NW one day!
Sounds like a bloody stroker with no power band too, fantastic machine and a real credit. 😎
Watched Trevor and Steve riding the Norton as a kid. The coolest and best sounding bike ever. Absolute dream machine ❤
Beautiful bike and well done for keeping it going. Followed Trevor Nation and Steve Spray, then later Ron Haslam in UK. The sound ohhh my😂
Don't forget Steven Cull
Spits and sputters until you feed it then it’s a beast! Holee crap! 😳😍👍👍
I worked for Robert when he raced the Norton , great bike and a brilliant man to race it ,rip wee Rab 🤙
That’s amazing. I’ll bet Steve would love to chat if you wanted to send me your details.
Oh that sound!!
I remember watching these race in the superbike series bloody awesome machines, nice to see it being ridden & not collecting dust.
Steve is defintely the perfect owner
Watched the Nortons back in the 90's , what a uniquely awesome team !!
Two big silly blokes winning on a pair of big silly bikes, what's not to like 👍
Actually rode one on the road and that was enough , hats off to the racing team !
That would have been an awesome time!
When I first saw the Nortons at Brands the Nortons were faster than everything else even the RC30 & OW01 think it was Trevor & Steve Spray but they got really hot
I saw them run in 1989
Oh giggity!!!
I badgered my Dad to take me to Brands Hatch to see Steve Spray and Trevor Nation doing the demo. Seeing them do side by side wheelie's down the straight was unbelievably cool. Just like the promo posters i had on my wall.
I saved up all my paper round money and bought the official paddock jacket which in 1989/90 was £70.00 a lot of money back then.
My aunt decided it needed a wash and shrunk the bloody thing. I was proper p1ssed
I still have on vhs Rocket Ron at Donnington, great to see it running with the two strokes
That's an awesome memory to have!
one of the all time greats , my absolute road racing hero
One of the coolest bikes ever thanks for sharing
It’s ever better in real life 👌🏻
We Rab made that Norton sing always enjoyed a chat when we met in supermarket rest in peace friend
Just beautiful.... 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
I can not express how much i like the Nortons.. The rotarys aswell, from the P42/ Walzing Walter to the full blown RC588 and then after the split the Crighton monster... there is so much respect owed to he engineers and the riders of these over powdered machines. Having owned a tuned to the max P42 and still owning a race trim tuned 1990 race regulated F1, these thing p[ull like nothing els!
OH MY GOD WHAT A SOUND WHAT A BIKE AND WHAT RIDERS HAVE BEEN ABOARD HAIRS STANDING UP EVERYWHERE !!!!!!!!!!!!
Agreed!
What a unique motorcycle, really love the tone. Shame the Tach wasn't working.
He'd only just got the bike, but it got fixed soon after
The bike that got me into motorbikes 🏍
"Like a 2 stroke without a power band" it must be bloody terrifying to ride.
Steve loves it!
No is 2 stroke,is Rotary Engine, more power🔺️ Rotary Engines is full Power.
amazing awsome. what a sound. clearly v fast bike.
i saw Trevor nation & Steve spray race these at Truxton back in 89 when i had my suzi gsxr 750 slab tank
They would have been awesome to watch there too
That bike doesnt like going slow 🙂. Nice to see such an iconic bike running so well, well done !
I was lucky enough to ride Tony Haywood's RCW588 replica. Wow what a machine the handling and the power was just incredible
Awesome!
Anglia TV did a programme called wheels did different types of racing each week. I remember watching the Norton's at Snetterton ,they flew down the back straight absolutely annihilating everything,as they passed everything I just sat there saying"bloody hell"
I love that mix of 2 and 4 strokesound❤.. Super 😊
This is awesome 🤘
Saw Trevor and Steve at Darley moor on these excellent 🇮🇲🏁
The fastest I ever saw one of these superb machines go, was the great duel between Steve HISLOP (Norton number 19), and Carl Fogarty (think it was the Yam OW01, number 4) at the 1992 Isle of Man Senior TT - WOW, what a race that was!! I'm lucky, being Manx, I had home advantage. One other thing I remember about the Rotary Norton, because it was 'Rotary', some people tried to claim it was DOUBLE the cc, at 1176 instead of 588!
There was always confusion and arguments :)
I watched these up close back in the day racing all around the UK circuits....
The main man behind all this history is Brian Crighton, an unbelievable gifted engineer.
The JPS Nortons were only successful because of Brian, although early on he had parted ways with the team & followed his own development path with the 'Roton' (twin shock/Duckhams Norton) & now more recently 'Crighton Motorcyles Limited' CR700w....
Definitely a slice of British Motorcycle Engineering at its best..
That would have been amazing!
@@hoontvmotorbikes
Check out the facts....the CR700w is current.
Yep, don’t worry. Steve fills me in regularly about what he’s up to
🇬🇧 HAPPY TIMES 🏁
Makes me think of the flames coming out the exhaust when it was racingon TV.. awesome ! ☺️🔥🔥🔥💨
Oh yeah!
Sounds just like the Rotary bike Guy Martin recently tested at Cadwell Park. Brilliant
Rotary engine over 250 hp with 500cc with perfect preparation, and unique power to weight-ratio,Rotary Power 🔺️
Bring back the rotary 👈👍🇦🇺
They have :)
Trevor Nation on one of these on the Revitt Straight at Snetterton was when I first met the term "Norton Lane".
Great track!
I had one in an Arctic Cat snowmobile. It felt like an electric motor.
I remember the ruddy great flames out of the exhaust.
Where is this, looks like Australia from the trees? I loved these bikes. Big fan of Robert's too.
Adelaide Motorsport Festival. They used the old pit section of the F1 track.
Indeed!
Twin rotors, 3 chambers per rotor
294 cm³ x 6 = 1764 cm³
140 hp
500 cm³ 4 cylinders 2 strokes = 170 hp
Rotary engine easy over 250 hp with 500cc,Rotary engines is full power.
@@francobridarolli3239
500cc x 3 chambers per rotor =1500cc
--> 250hp 😅🤣😂
F1 engine BMW M12/13 TURBO V6 (1982-1987) 1500cc --> 1300 hp
I saw the rocket Ron has he had a wildcard at donny I think it was 1991 loved the norton and Ron😊😊
It would have been amazing to be there back then!
That's Adelaide Supercar Race course.
Sounds good for only running at 750-1000 rpm
Pity the Revies clock aint coming out to play ?????????
Yeah, he'd only just got his hands on the bike. Works perfectly now
I wonder how the engine braking is?
You need to fly your mechanic out to hook up your tacho sport ;)
He said Unique...... Hey you know how to catch a unique Rabbit 🐇🐰......⁉️
Unique up on it.....
Nice bike, shame that the rev counter doesn’t work 🤔 !
Would have been nice to see the insane rev range for sure 😳 !
That rev counter don’t work too well ey?
He'd only just got the bike, but it got fixed soon after
I'm not mechanically minded at all I know bits so this as a rotary engine I'm thinking thats the same as a Mazda rotary engine it sounds amazing.?
Similar, just smaller
it sounds like a 2 stroke
Nice RC30 next to it
That was me on me Joey Dunlop tribute bike. Stay tuned, will be putting that video up again.
@hoontvmotorbikes Look forward to it 👍 Never had the pleasure, but did ride a 89 NC30, that 'looked' like an RC30, especially in the classic red white & blue. A lot cheaper (&slower) but aweome on tight circuits like Lydden & Cadwell - The RC30 though..stunning bike, think the OWO1 was equally as fast in Superbikes in 90s, but the Honda looks way better, yours is beautiful, look forward to seeing it soon, take care x
Certes il y a du vent mais ce sont des papys en ballade. Le genou est loin du bitume
It wasn’t a race event, they were just parade laps
@@hoontvmotorbikesOh yes, but the pilot on Norton was faster than the others. So When I took my 1st lesson at Le Mans. we stop & give a free track to watch a pro on a GP 250 Honda. Génerally when you ride with slow pilots, an accident happens, one one day a guy died in front of me.
All that money on a bike and he wears a fake Ohlins T shirt
At last.. someone how can change down properly on a constant mesh gearbox.... hope you so called 'racers' are paying attention.. because at the Prescott Hill Climb you sound like crap because 99 % of you Can't use you box properly.... and yes.. I can and I'm a qualified motorcycle engineer who's worked on more bike engines than you've had hot dinners... just go listen to Hailwood, Agostini, Bill Ivy etc.... go on.. do it now.. and learn....
Steve goes alright, he’s done plenty of laps in his life
Wonderfull Scitsu isn't working. British engineering at its best. What a joke.
He'd only just bought the bike. Works fine now. More coming soon
She’s a beut r i p Dunlop boys ❤ miss miss yas
Fantastic bike wish rev counter worked
He’d only just bought it, but don’t worry, there’s more coming.
The rev counter is not working!
