Just got mine with the elmax dagger blade and its absolutely beautiful. I wouldn't put oil anywhere near it though. It would seriously gum up the action even if you never carried it and if you did carry it, it would be a mess of oily dirt and pocket crap in the tracks, killing the glassy smoothness. The exo just doesn't need oil. A q-tip and some rubbing alcohol is all you need for cleaning. Otherwise keep it dry. Cheers 🍻
I consier myself very lucky to score one of these (tanto blade burlap micarta) back in March of this year. It is so fidgety and so EDC-able. One of the best in my modest collcection.
It just need a flush screw on the pocket clip. Knife binds up on pocket seam and doesn’t allow to sit flush. Also an update with locking switch maybe spring autolock. Maybe a simple button press to open and when let go it auto locks.
I bought a second Zircuti Exo-M from Crane’s cutlery. My reasoning was something along the lines of your recent 229 video about buying multiples of the same knife so you actually use and carry one. I really didn’t need two of these, but boy are they fun.
I just picked one up! It's been bothering me daily and finally broke haha but j got the Cranes Cutlery limited Timascus version. Thank you for planting the seed.. my first Reate brand knife!

I passed on these for a long time because I thought it was a novelty. NOW I edc the bigger original version with no lock & love it! I always belt carry my folders anyway & a local leather smith made me a sheath that works great!
I just ordered one from smkw today in a Elmax drop point blade. Known about the original exo for a while wanted one but realized I couldn’t pocket carry it, but now with the exo-m I can only downer with what your saying is im a lefty.
I just ordered one of the aluminum versions at BladeHQ. I bought it for the fidget factor but depending on how this video ends I may try it as a work knife.
I got this same knife in ELMAX and I love it! I got the red/black gmascus and had it for a couple of months before I noticed that it matches matches my Kimber 1911 so well it looks like I bought them as a set! It makes very satisfying sounds when it deploys and retracts, it's impossible not to fidget with, and it razor sharp. I will say I took it apart and very lightly lubricated it with gun oil and it slowed WAY down. So I disassembled, cleaned it up, tried KPL, same thing. Finally tried KPL dry lubricant and that is definitely the way to go with this knife. Skip the oil. This immediately became a favorite EDC for me. I was surprised by how easy it is to deploy and retract, and it's so aesthetically pleasing I could frame it and hang it on the wall, but a knife this great needs to be used
Totally agree with you on the price! If you take it apart you can clearly see its 2 different pieces of integral pieces if Ti. Show me another integral Ti at this pricepoint
Im so tired of looking for this knife. I’ve spent nearly 9 months looking for it to be in stock, particularly as I’m not on the USA, it’s practically impossible to find even imported. Every time I look whenever it’s posted on a video or comment, it’s always out of stock, it’s not like I’m not keeping an eye.. i check constantly. I’m fairly sure at this point reate are just not making enough of these as I’ve never had any issues with any getting any other knife as a collector outside the usa.
I have Tanto. Not supposed to. Completely forbidden in my area (idiocracy). That being said: my absolute favorite! One thing to be aware of is: the mechanism is prone to any dirt which would make it stuck.. but yeah there is a downside to anything, right? I would not take it to hunting - but great for office.
Recently picked one of these up for myself for Christmas (Elmax Drop point, black micarta), coming from mostly benchmade folding knives this thing had some serious "fidget factor" as you stated. I thought that would wear off and I would be annoyed with the slow mechanism, but no, you can flick this thing open so quickly it is awesome. I have been carrying this thing every hour every day and I love it, legality of carrying is questionable in my state but more of a grey area hopefully I dont run into any trouble. Great review!
@@jackharrison9756 I ordered off of a Canadian website and had it shipped to the US, thankfully with no issue. I couldn't find them in stock anywhere else. I have the regular size, I think the original REATE exo was larger than the one I have, then they made the regular size and the mini. As far as I am aware they dont sell or produce any of the original size (largest), only the mini and the regular Reate EXO. I think the regular size is the perfect sizing for carrying, maybe even a little short on the blade length so I definitely wouldnt order the mini personally. Im still very happy and it is still holding a great edge 2 months on, so I definitely recommend if you can own it legally.
Also despite numerous hours at this point sitting at my desk "fidgeting" Ive only had one incident of slicing my hand. Minor cut thankfully, and totally worth it.
CPM 3V makes a lot of sense, I think they were worried about the blade rattling around might chip something like M390. Although, Magnacut would be wonderful in this design.
What looks like “extra steps” to you looks like combining steps to me. You don’t have to press a lock every time you open most other knives, but I kind of look opening the handle the same time you press the button as 1 single step. And that closing mechanism doesn’t seem so bad. The unlock mechanism on most knives change. Sounds more comfortable to repeat the same simple move twice than 2 different moves twice So it looks to me anyway.
Just got a exo-m.... Wow! I can't put it down, it's soooooo addictive!!! Loves it so much I bought the full size/ OG version now with the lock. One of my favorites for sure!
i got the tanto version and i absolutely love it and edc it a few times a week. just to let u know the piece that holds the blade in is actually steel. i thaught it was ti but i checked it with a magnet after taking it apart bc i wanted to anodize it and it sticks to it. love the videeos keep up the good work!
Also with the rattle and blade play it has to be like that or the action just wouldnt work its how the knife has to function or it wouldn’t slide in and out
I prefer the original with the leather slip, it's bigger. & I definitely can't figure out why people are concerned with it not locking WHEN YOUR NOT HOLDING IT...? When you hold the orginal it's completely locked & when your not it goes in the slip. I think the lock completely kills the idea of being a gravity knife not to mention that will be the only thing to quit working!
I kind of disagree with that. Although I will say that the original one "needing" a lock was probably unnecessary to begin with, but the new one having the lock feature does absolutely nothing to infringe upon the user experience. I mean, can you not just forgo the entire lock and operate it like it wasn't there to begin with? Yes you can; however it is there for people who do decide that they want to utilize it. And for everyone else, the thing operates exactly like the original. Just don't flip the lock switch if you don't want to use it, simple as that.
This way it does not open in your pocket and stab you in the leg or whatever. I have no problem with the lock you can use it or not but makes Carrie friendly. I’m not worried about locking and unlocking a knife that’s why you carry a gun lol
I love this knife. The lock almost seems unnecessary as it’s not going anywhere when you’re gripping it. Having said that, I am glad they added the lock. I wish they had some additional options to the micarta like the original has. Maybe they’ll add that later. The only issue is that I really wanted to pinch grip it and then shake it side to side while sneaking up on my adversary. 😂
SUPER surprised that the Bayonet version is the last to sell out on Cranes, I picked it up from your plug on the live, but it makes the most sense, its an OTF... why not!
I have a Reate Exo, and my only complaints were that it didn't have a pocket clip and a lock. The Reate Exo-M solves this problem. I think the size makes more sense for carry too. Now I have both.
