I luv my equinox diesel, got 51mpg on freeways. And tows 2500lbs up hills no problem, but only get about 32 mpg when towing my boat. It's great on sandy beaches. Diesel is good for long distance driving and has good torch for off roading and towing. Got over 700 miles on 1 tank before.
I am in the UK and I have a 2004 Kia Sorento 2.5 Turbo Diesel automatic and it is fantastic. The Equinox is the closest thing you can get to my Kia in North America. Get the basic front wheel drive model with the diesel and the auto box, it isn't gonna be as noisy as this guy makes out. You won't even notice the noise difference from a gasoline car when your driving normally. You don't often need awd even in these snowys conditions fwd would cope with winter tyres. North America gets very few diesels, and in Europe there is also an agenda to demonise diesels for nox and tax them or ban them from London and Paris etc. But when its all said and done diesels are still very popular in Europe because the efficiency is so good, it is a much better technology than gasoline engines. Why do the militaries of the world use diesel?.
Was disappointed when Hyundai cancelled their turbo diesel in their line up. North America seems to be turning away from diesels towards electricity and hybrids. Diesel engine hybrids anyone?
@@glitterkittensreid5079 Unfortunately it seems to be a global trend to shift away from Diesels. It's purely political and business related, nothing to do with them being bad for the environment. But yeah I would like to see a Hybrid diesel achieve some mega high mpg figures.
I looked seriously at this vehicle when making my purchase. It's high pricing (namely dealer driven with short supply, and highly optioned models available) was a turn off. Also the Auto-Stop feature for the diesel was totally pointless. Your test report was very good. What you heard was tire noise - an issue with these compact crossovers.
I have the Ford escape and to be honest, it's pretty much comparable to the Equinox. I think the Escape looks better, but that's an opinion. HOWEVER, the escape is DEFINITELY not noisy inside. I go at 80-85 MPH on average and it's super quiet and smooth inside. I don't know about the Japanese ones, but the Escape is definitely not noisy. The Equinox was rated at 41 MPG, but I guess it depends how you drive it.
As a purchaser of the GMC Terrain diesel I would have paid extra to have the 6spd manual available in the Cruze Chevrolet. Maybe even sacrificed AWD to have a stick shift. As an owner and driver of 1997 Cummins 12V Also a 2007 CRD 5.9 TD. These 1.6 turbo diesel are quiet and run pretty smooth. I drove the base model 1.5 turbo gas FWD Terrain, the 1.6 turbo diesel blows the base model gas out of the water! Both mileage wise and power torque wise. Was hoping Hyundai was gonna bring their Turbo Diesel to their Sante Fe but alas it was dropped. Hoping for a few good years of safe highway cruising with this 2018’
For the price the comparison to a Rav4 Hybrid and Outlander PHEV makes an interesting bunch. For mainly city driving the Toyota and Mitsubishi seems to make more sense, the Equinox diesel should be a better companion on highway journey.
P.S. if it is any consolation, GM dealers generally are quite eager to drop discount prices off their cars from $2000 to a staggering $7000 in some cases. At $36,000 the Equinox Diesel is a lot easier to swallow.
The electric range on the Outlander PHEV is quite abysmal, but the RAV4 Hybrid is quite appealing, though not our favourite SUV on the block. If you like diesels, its fuel-efficient nature, and the bountiful amount of torque it provides, then the Equinox is really one of the only players in the market.
I have the 2017 Cruze Diesel and you don't hear it too much. You feel it more than you hear. Obviously, you cannot get rid of the "vibration" of a diesel engine when idlind. It's the nature of diesel engines. But it's quiet even when idling. You barely hear it inside. Even outside. You gotta be closer than 10 feet to the car to hear it's a diesel engine. VERY QUIET.
For 30 grant, yeah, it's expensive. For 16 it's great . With 22k miles. That's why Motorweek continues to be one of the best review shows even in 2021. They don't review feelings
My VW TDi is very quiet and does not vibrate at all. I was hoping GM would have made a diesel engine that could at least compete with the Germans but I guess they can't, even though this engine is probably imported from Europe.
Crappy GM has the Cruze diesel same engine same platform. No manual for the SUV’s. I suppose it is a consolation GM had the balls to market the diesels in the first place after the VW debacle.

You got 32MPG while towing? I have a 2019 Equinox Diesel - I just towed a small 8 foot, 800 pound trailer this weekend & got 26MPG over 900 miles...
Solid review... thanks for keeping it under 8 minutes.
And thank you for watching!
Good Job man. Not interested in this vehicle but just wanted to support you to grow your channel as you are good at reviewing vehicles
Thanks for the support, Arsh!
Great review, well spoken and accurate account.

You get what you pay for. Look at the comparable Jeep, Ford and foreign competitors and they just suck in comparison. 38MPG highway is a no-brainer.

The 2.0 litre cruze diesel would have been ideal for the Chevy Equinox?.
I would like to hear about engine problems and solutions instead of the interior and the things that fix your eyeballs

Pull a camper with a hybrid and tell me what you think
lol love the febreze comment
Like driving over a "face of acne", eh? Hadn't expected a Canuck to be this charming.
Just drive it; the diesel "noise' goes away right off idle. You want quiet? Buy a Tesla.
Tesla rattles like crazy - their QC is absolutely god awful. Most other EV or hybrids are quiet.

Well said!!!!!
Hey bro 1.6d awd 0~100km/h 몇초정도 인가??
The title of the ad on a tablet reads Chevrolet Equinox dies... Not exactly what you want it to read.
Thanks for the heads up!

Technically VM doesn't make a diesel that is even legal in North America so.....ya
The diesel engine in the Cruze and Equinox is Gernan designed but American built.
So now everyone's happy.
I need a manual trans
