To provide some answers:
10:00 Caste System has been a thing since 1.6/Utopia. It's avaible to Authoritarian only though.
15:00 There's no 'step colder and one step wetter'. I mean, that was a suggestion back in 1.2, but all we ever got was having 3 planet classes with 3 variants each. So it's just 'doesn't match our home planet class'
16:45 Actually, the SPQR name pack is part of the 2.0/Apocalypse update and not related to the Humanoid ship pack.
23:00 Nope, capitals produce Energy (and Unity, with the Expansion Tradition) only. No minerals.
23:25 You ALWAYS start with 2 other planets of your home planet type in ~1-2 systems distance, just bringing it up.
Also he took the relations scientist from the relations tech instead of the one that has 25% bonus exp
In my experience cats are not slow breeders. Not quite rabbits but enthusiastic little fuckers nonetheless.
Big cats like lions birth 1-4 cubs per pregnancy every 4 months versus a housecat who births 3-5 kittens every 2 months. Elevated Space Kitties will prob follow the same pattern of reproductive change, 1-2 cubs every 8 months /noirony

C.J. Cherryh has written the Chanaur trilogy about a lioness space captain and the human whose existence upset the local sector power balance of multiple alien races because he represents an unknown foreign power. So space cats.
It's oddly appropriate that Quill is playing a race of catpeople, specifically based on lions, because it's the Cherryh patch, and one of her bigger series is about a race of space faring cat people, based on lions. Check out The Pride of Chanur.
Quil you are still thinking 1.0 habitability system, you get 80% habitability in savanna, 60% in desert and arid, and 20% in everything else, there is no more habitability wheel, just 3 classes, dry wet and cold, with an extra bonus for the exact type you pic
JohninMinecraft why all these changes to make the game more simple? This is a Paradox game it is supposed to get more complicated and inaccessible over time!
I actually think they change that for 2.0

The first system didn't really bother me but after playing to about mid game in the new patch I'm rather happy with the changes : ) I feel like I have a lot more control over how my empire expands and it adds a lot of tension to the game when I'm racing for systems against my enemies before all out war starts. I also find the new war system to be easier to understand. Good to see paradox moving in the right direction.
You might not need the afterburner tech, but you will probably want what comes after. Not having a lead scientist is a HUGE penalty. Either way, nooooo not that scientist! You should have shuffled the genius to physics, let the society one stay (statecraft type combo) and sent the extra lifespan guy to your ship.

Actually, flying blind in a (real life) asteroid field is fairly safe. Anyway, these changes have a nice Aurora vibe.
Valentin Felix I was thinking the same thing. Would have to be a very dense asteroid field to be a danger to ships with this level of protection and directional control.

You actually slowed your green research by swapping in the Spark of Genius cat. Should have left the statecraft cat in green and moved SoG into blue.

Just started my first game. Super confused on some things but loving it
I hope they did something to improve the survival rate of science ships now that they HAVE to go in first, the number of times I loose ships because I warped into an unknown system right ontop of mining drones, or crystaline entities is going to be REALY bad if it means I loose a scientist every time.
its not as bad anymore since scientists do not cost influence anymore. they rebalanced most of the stuff accordingly to how we play soon.

I think they added Caste System around the first expansion in time. But I could be misremembering. I almost always play authoritarians though, and definitely don't recall it being in the game at the very start.
why did you remove the scientist researching biology that it was specialised in instead of the one with no bonus at all before singeing them around? around 14:20
PS: CJ Cherryh has written some great sci fi. I strongly recommend Merchanter’s Luck and Rimrunners.

Traditional works cats do not like change most of the time they act out. just ask my now tore favorite jacket.
What is the voice pack you juse? Please I need it.
Have a look at the Automute Chrome extension, it mutes all tabs automatically. You can whitelist TH-cam and other url's.
Quill is basically playing as the Dark Eldar.

I would encourage folks to read the works of C. J. Cherryh. She a great writer and does some of the best from a non-human PoV storytelling I've ever read.
Quill should definitely make a driven assimilator robots run some day. its stupidly hard, but really fun.
Danilo Oliveira cyborgs (owned by assimilators) are good at energy and minerals, because in one of tradition there is building, that give 2 energy, 2 unity and +15% energy and minerals proaction from cyborgs.
i find driven assimilator robots to be easyer to play, together with devouring swarms, but that my just be personal bias.
the problem is that you don't have a fighting bonus and everyone absolutely hate you from the start. the moment they see you they will make defensive pacts and gang up on you and purge you from the galaxy as fast as possible. and since you don't have fighting bonus and its so hard to start conquering planets before you have 1k+ ship strength you can't be super aggro on the start before they start making alliances.
they are still a lot of fun though, for roleplay and for gameplay. you have a lot of cool options to play with.

How much is apocalypse going to cost? Got the game the other week from humble but haven't played since I heard about the xpac.

the xpac is merely a part of the update, part is free, a part is available to be bought to support the devs etc.

I have played with WH FTL every single game... I got some learning to do. I don't remember resources no longer showing on the map after building mines/research. Is that new?
Quill just hasn't activated the checkbox for showing them.
no, there is a box which you can click to either show all resources, etc, or to minimize the amount you see.

they are not necessarily exactly next to you, more like in your region, IIRC
Aye, I'm not sure where the parameter is that determines distance but they're always close. I have a mod that removes them but I do wonder why there's no starting option for it.
