Karel Zeman was a film director who made some of the most enchanting and magic fantasy movies of all time. Another magnificent czech fantasy flick is Krysař. Also - as a sidenote - here in Germany we're watching Tři oříšky pro Popelku or Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel too at christmas time - it is very very popular in Germany as well. A christmas tradition, really. Same with these russian fairytale movies. I grew up seeing these movies - Aschenbrödel and the russian fairytale movies - countless times and I still love them to this day.
It should be noted that some old black-and-white movies are still amazing in particular with "Vlasta Burian". There are some interesting old fantasy and sci-fi series such as Arabela, Navštěvníci (Visitors), Létající Čestmír (Flying Čestmír). Speaking of well established classic movies one must not forget "Jáchyme hoď ho do stroje" (Joachym throw it into the machine), "Marečku, podejte mi pero" (Marecek, could you hand me a pen). In category of fairy tales based movies I think of two notable "Hrátky s čertem" (Playing with the Devil), "S čerty nejsou žerty" (Give the Devil His Due).
I had no idea that there was a new fairy tale movie every Christmas. I grew up in Norway, and where the Cinderella movie is shown on the Norwegian state channel every Christmas eve. It’s so popular there that they just made a Norwegian remake of it. But a lot of middle aged Norwegians watched a lot of Czech childrens programmes, the state channel bought a lot of them in the seventies and eighties. Not sure why…..
Pelíšky = dens, lairs. Movie starts as a comedy but ends telling the story of Czech occupation by Warsaw Pact armies to suppress resistance to soviet domination. There are many artistic and thought provoking movies. List is too long. Don’t forget Oscar winning Kolja!
PLEASE HELP AND READ CAREFULLY there was a serieds of movies i think it was a mix between czech and south or north german or something, anyway it was a series of movies something like christmas movies special or something or holiday, but they were going at least daily like 10 years ago or something, i was able to find only 1 cindrella and the three wishes or cindrella and the three nuts, i remember them till now, there were others but i never found them and i wanna find them desperatley, i remmeber only 2 more, one was about a girl falling in a well, her step mother probably, she was very bad and she throws like yarn in the well or something and the girl has to bring it back, she goes down the well for 3 days maybe, she does 3 deeds, like halping cookies out of an oven, and making the beds for a women and doing so it snows down below, the wicked and lazy step daughter went down after she knew the protagonist got lots of gold from that but all the lazy girl got was oil and stunk, and the last i remmeber was about a devil visiting a town and he steals magic objects like a magic sewing box than sews garments and beautiful dresses but the devil always fail to get the magic objects to stop, another thing he steals are magic boots or shoes and they run with his because he used the magic words but never was able to stop and he run he run he run and that is all i remmebr, i am so dying to watch all those movies again, please if someone knows them or know any fairy tails like that, I BEG YOU TELL ME
I know the first one mostly from fairy tale books, but I remember one TV adaptation, that was called Paní Zima in Czech. But it's originally German. If you put "Paní Zima" in Google, you'll surely find at least a poster with the German name.

I found it anyway; the film is called Frau Holle in German and it's a part of German fairy tale series "Sechs auf einen Streich"
Kolja is the best Czech film imo.

Every dubbing sucks, it is always better to watch the original.
