Best ANARCHY1 Typhoon Display at 500ft Spectacular & Fierce Manoeuvres • RAF Coningsby 04.04.23

- 2023 Typhoon Display Pilot Flt Lt Matt Brighty practices his impressive sequences for his display over the home base RAF Coningsby on a beautiful sunny day. The hard deck has also been lowered to 500ft.
Brighty is ferociously impressive and he really shows off the manoeuvrability of the Eurofighter Typhoon. With clouds looking rather moody and looming lower by the minute, Brighty keeps the display a little flat as you'll notice the 10,000ft vertical climb at the end of the display is redundant. During the display while recording there was hard pellets of sleet/hail/snow no idea what it was but it was harsh.
The hard deck is 1,500ft which is standard for the first few practice displays. The displays hard deck will be lowered about every 2 weeks until the pilot gets to 100ft and of course, successfully passing the PDA (Public Display Authority).
Brighty said to the TCS that "keep the display sequence more tight" and aims to keep the sequence in a more compact space. This will possibly mean that high speed passes may not be present in the sequences in order to keep the manoeuvres confound to a tighter space. But until we see the practice displays next year (Late February / Early March), we will have a better idea then.
RAF Typhoon display pilots are selected from 29 Squadron, which is the OCU (Operational Conversion Unit) at RAF Coningsby. 'Brighty' has also flown with XI(F) Squadron, which is one of two front-line combat ready squadrons at Coningsby.
Brighty had also been involved in a special WWII flypast in honour of Wing Commander Guy Gibson VC. Brighty flew the pilot wings of Wg Cdr Guy Gibson in his Typhoon around Lincoln on the 24th January 2022. Gibson flew most of his operations from Scampton and Coningsby.
The wings were on a uniform that was left at RAF Coningsby aft Wg Cdr Guy Gibson VC was killed in action in 1944. Gibson helped form 617 Squadron (more famously renowned as 'the dam busters') during early 1943 for the specialised and extraordinary perilous pursuit of Op. Chastise, using the 'bouncing bomb' to breach the dams in Germany's Rhur Valley during the nights of the 16th and 17th of May 1943. What an honour for Brighty to fly the very wings of Wg Cdr Gibson in his Typhoon...

Edit: Just finished watching. That's the first time I've seen the Typhoon unleashed. The practice displays over the last several weeks have been under weather conditions it seems. Today with clear skies, the lighting was perfect, and the cinematography was spot on. Brighty was brilliant. Best Practice Display of the year imho.

The Eurofighter is just pleasure too watch. Especially when flown by Matt Brighty doing stuff we would all dream of doing. Kept in frame perfectly by the camera work of champions which makes the view even more involving.. We are right there. Fly Typhoon fly. Magic. Brutal exchanges from manoeuvre to another. The poor Plane. One day it will say no... awesome. Thank you.

It was good. Really disappointed he didn't start from the ground with a performance takeoff.
From what we know, this ‘IS’ a Performance Take-off, as we’ve witnessed that it doesn’t always mean a steep/vertical climb out. We’ve heard pilots cleared for PTOs and it just means Reheats on departure. Of course, a vertical climb is always spectacular. Mind you Sainty’s takeoff was something.
I see for a moment the reheat burner igniter stopped working as raw fuel sprayed out the back
This is called ‘Fuel Venting’ and you’ll see this usually when negative G’s are pulled. Reheats are not on constantly during the whole display

Oi oi!!! And, despite Brightys best efforts the skylarks carried on singing!!! Brilliant display, there's some G forces in that one!!! I'm sure Ted knows the answer to this but when is Brightys maiden display?? Also the vantage point on top of the van is awesome Nikos - so glad you didn't fall off!!!!!! Ohhhh yeahhhhhh!!!!

Got to admit we do miss coming to Coningsby, however I got put on restricted activity within the page for I think posting a picture of a jet whilst the cobra was on when when I asked why I was being treated like this when there multiple post exactly the same as mine and are still up ‘John Smith’ jumped on his high horse and blocked me !! My son is soon to be a RAF cadet and he loves coming to see them but I can’t travel just over an hour ( from nottingham) on a whim as I now don’t know times and days of anything anymore, it’s a shame when admins act like this 🤷🏼♀️😞
