Every year after new soybeans are harvested, our family will grind some soybeans to make tofu pudding. People in Yunnan like eating sweet tofu pudding, so generally the tofu pudding added with brown sugar syrup. Usually we get some soybeans to make tofu.

I guess I'm a little more sentimental today so I'm thinking of my Grandfather. He would get pampered with special treats of old time candies and ice creams when we would find them or make them for him. He lived to 86 and was independent to the last week of his life and worked hard like this Grandpa!
In China, respecting the old and caring for the young is a traditional virtue. Almost everyone will be like this, because everyone was young need to be protected, and everyone will be old and need to be taken care of
I just love how close knit your family are to each other. Your grandparents, parents, uncles, great aunties, cousins, etc.. all work together to harvest the crops in the fields. I really loved your narrative in the intro. I almost cried. My grandparents were farmers too. There is always something moving about a simple yet humble farmer’s life, I think it’s because they live a life close to soil and us humans all go back to the earth at the end.

The life she leads is real, obviously things are never so simple. Hours of work filming and if she's an actress, so must the rest of the family! And Dog! Dianxi is an EXAMPLE of how life IS for some, not all Chinese people live this way (although many westerners do, homesteaders, those who live self sufficiently, all over the world. here in the Philippines, we call that "TAHO". also, we usually put pearls or what we call "sago" with it. it's actually a street food every morning or afternoon. a walking vendor sells it in the streets shouting "Tahoooooooo!!!" then all the kids will come out and buy it. 😊

Your grandfather Dianzi reminds me of my father who loves the farming side and plants many types of plants,edible ones, we never run out of foods all year round and share those harvest with our cousins and neighbor's. Thank you for sharing your program...
One thing i noticed is that some of the ingredients she's been using are available here in the philippines especially in the province where i live-surigao del sur. I once saw she harvested alugbati, upo, sayote, mustasa and many others. The same with kitchen implements like bilao or nigo in our dialect. The same with miss lizi qui. Much relate.

I have taste that kind of dessert back when I was growing up in Manila. It’s really hard to find that food in America. Probably one of food I will seek when I visit the country.. the food is great to eat in a place that is so peaceful.
