Ecm Switch in pos 1 gives the radar priority, so you can use AMRAAMs. Pos 2 gives jamming priority, which will disable your radar and the jamming will be stronger.
@@Maverickf20 I have not tested this. I would have to setup a series of SAM radars and test each with position 1 and then again with Position 2 and figure that out. Maybe in a future video???

Former EW Maintenance troop as well. There is a big difference unconfirmed information and confirmed information when it comes to dealing with classified material. Someone might actually have the right information, or wrong information, but as soon as someone actually cleared for that information says it is right or it is wrong, then they have crossed a line. I learned the 184 in Tech School, but ended up working a much different system when I got assigned. Good stuff!

The jar of jam into the dish lol. Great video, I want to say the constant xmit of the radar is referred to CPS or Constant Power Saturation although I could be mistaken.
Been flying the Viper since Falcon 3.0, and never even imagined they had multiple jamming pods. Really wish we'd make a generational jump with jamming and declassify at least the 4th Gen stuff. Really feels like an entire WORLD of military flight we aren't currently engaging in.
This stuff gives such massive advantage it is kept more underwraps than stealth tech. It has so many applications it will probably be declassified if everyone has the knowhow already.
I hope they add in functionality for carrying the 3 pods. I got all excited when I saw the long pod and the ability to carry 3 of them but when I tested it made no difference lol Also a note, POS 3 active jamming seems much stronger than the 2 self protection modes. Set up an SA-5 since it has the longest range, in SPM with the jammer set as priority the site would still lock and launch at me at around 50nm. In POS 3 you can fly directly at it, it will sort of lock at 22nm but will never launch a missile and you can pass right over the site
Every Radar has a burn though distance. A point where the Radars power can see through the jamming. Pods are small and can't match the power of a large ground based Radar system once it gets too close.
I think about that every day. They NEED to add the E/A-18G. It is an essential tool for any SEAD/DEAD mission involving Naval aircraft. No F/A-18 flight would be without a Growler irl so not having them in game is a huge setback.
so ik this is a year old, but i'm having trouble with noise barrage mode in the short pod. i turn all the switches on, master arm, xmit 3, man knob (because semi-auto engages SPJ mode), CMS aft, nothing. following chuck's guide too. help?
and 1.5 years later, EW hasn't moved at all. But to be fair, the development of the F-4E is looking to expand the EW model of the game as a whole, beyond just the RWR in the Phantom. As to whether or not that takes another year from this post (July 2023) is another question.
In real life, the short only works for Medium and High Band radar, and the long is for Medium, High, and Low band radars. In the sim, however, I haven't noticed a difference in capability yet. This may change, however, in the future.
Being currently a member of the air force that works on alq-184-v11 aka the long pod without going into detail the only real control panel for the pod is the second one your cmds doesn't have any controlling factor to the pod irl. As well your assumption about the buttons being the different bands is wrong I can't go into why it's wrong but just seeing them almost have it right bothers me a bit.
I wonder how much time does a search, and track radar need to get enough time on your Course, speed, and altitude? Even tho the lock has been broken. I wonder if you would have to change direction repeatedly.

What are the requirements for this sim? If this is gonna be in the sim I want to make sure I can play this. I used to maintain these and would love to see if they got it right!
Since most of the documentation on the ALQ are classified, I doubt it. I recommend not using someone else’s track ir profile. It takes a minute to make your own and it will be 1000 times better than someone else’s profile. Reason is you move differently and you have a different monitor setup.

There are public documents on the pods in the game AFAIK.
When a pilot would coldsoak a pod the shift he brought it to always got something out of it (beer, pizza, etc) because they knew we would be upset.

Distance is a big factor. Closer you are to the radar, the harder it is to break the lock....but, it is a game, so it could just be a bug.
