- Now as to why Hogger is so well known, well it's because he was a very hard elite mob in the Human starting zone. Seeing as back in the day before Blood elves were added to the game, Humans were the most popular race people picked, and after going around killing easy mobs most people didn't think an elite mob would be that much harder.

Hogger pve threat number 1 2004- Dec 2010
In an alternate universe, Hogger actually united the gnolls and caused the Second Gnoll War which weakened the Alliance enough that the Burning Legion was able to steamroll through Azeroth.
You joke, but that's actually a real possibility,,

Hogger was a great villain
This is the most iconic villain, Arthas is second
Hogger was, if memory serves, the first elite mob a new human player would ever encounter. People were not expecting him to be as strong as he was, plus he called for gnoll backup to help him fight and the area he was in had pretty fast respawning groups of gnolls and some roamed around. All of these elements were dangerous, but splicing them all together in a scenario where players had typically felt safe and comfortable soloing all their quests without help, and you have a recipe for death and dismay.
Also, with servers frequently crashing or going down during vanilla, and players being unable to just stop playing, they would make new level 1 characters on other servers just to waste time until they could play on their home server again. When a bunch of level 1 humans spawned in large numbers in Northshire, they would roam around aimlessly killing things out of boredom, and it started to become a way to pass the time to test themselves against tougher and tougher enemies that they could kill in large numbers despite being level 1. Hogger became the measuring stick for these level 1 raids and would be swarmed by groups of level 1 players as if it were a raid encounter. All of this became pretty traditional for a lot of folks and further spread stories of Hogger and firmly cemented him as a historical figure.
Remember the famous Hogger Raids during Server Shutdowns :D

BY THE WAY, Hogger is not dead, when you are doing a horde BfA intro (the stockades part), you can find a female human prisoner in Hogger’s room and a costume of Hogger. And when you interact with her she says like: “Aha, Hogger’s not dead - this is just a costume”.
Legend says that Chuck Norris and Segata Sanshiro kneel to Hogger.
hogger is the biggest danger to azeroth , i mean it took the might of a thousand level 5 players to kill the beast
I miss when hogger was actually a threat, when you needed a group to kill him unless you were a hunter. Now anyone can just walk up and kill him while 3 levels under him. Mobs are too easy to fight now.
Hurtydwarf you could kill him relatively easily with other classes too. Locks, pallies and druids worked just as well.
Removing “crushing blow” delivered a crushing blow to Blizzard.
I remember killing him with Power Word: Pain, running in circles, and my butthole clinched
Hogger was decently hard to solo in cata, but eventually the low lvl power creep got to him

I really liked this video! I know it was an April Fool's joke but it was neat to learn about a smaller, more often overlooked villain than the big overwhelming monstrosities like some of your other videos. Doing some more small time villain videos like maybe about the Centaurs or the Defias Brotherhood might be really cool!

Hogger is compare to Marvel's one above all. I've seen him take down 40 level 1's and Superman while he was doing his taxes.

Maybe one day we can be gnolls as a playable race, and the stockades could be retconned and used as the starting quest for the gnolls, and Hogger becomes the gnoll leader. :P
I think the Gnolls should be made a playable race (at least in part because they would be the best alternate race to turn the Worgen model into). But I don't think it is necessary to retcon the stockades to make Hogger one of the race's main characters-- afterall, "There must always be a Hogger" so... whichever one is calling itself Hogger now would be one of the racial heroes.

Hogger was basically Vanilla WoW's Fippy Darkpaw (gnoll in newbie area for Qeynos humans in EverQuest)

Nice video, Hiru. Instead of doing the standard villains like everyone has, you chose a much more trivial, but perhaps much more relatable and memorable foe.
Hogger is probably the most iconic of all mobs in Elwynn and likely one of the first, if not the first elites you'd encounter as a human player.
Those drawings really do really lift the video to a higher level. Instead of the in-game or stock footage, this adds a personal and unique touch. Love this series and your channel!

ive seen nearly every lore video on nearly every villain yet this is one i actually learned something in, the gnoll wars in fact. Also i would love to see an undead hogger or something with the bronze drakes and letting us go back in time to fight hogger, or something with the druids and the nightmare reliving their experiences with hogger or other small but infamous villains.
I can almost picture a Death Knight Hogger :) it would be epic

I think a lot of horde guilds in Vanilla if their server was down used to roll a level 1 alliance on a random realm and raid hogger as level 1s. Some of the most memorable and funny evenings ever if you ask me
Hogger's Lore is his notoriety of being the Terror of Elwynn. He wasn't a deadly target, but he was the introductory stage to cooperative efforts. Hogger did not forgive people who tried tackling him alone. And it was also a good way to introduce the threat that Elites were supposed to be. When you saw that Golden Dragon Ring; you knew you had a challenge on your hands. Much like how the Sons of Arugal were in Silverpine Forest.
His legacy lived as the first elite people fought against; and likely first time they had to get a group together to take him down. (Or the first quest they've had to skip out of pure frustration of said difficulty spike)
Hogger also became a part of the Darkmoon Fair with the Wack-o-Gnoll game
I know this is supposed to be a joke, but I really enjoyed this episode, since this villain is much more insignificant character than all the others. You should do more of these!
We used to all roll ally alts on another server and do “hogger raids” from time to time. You were supposed to try to get there while still lvl 1 or 2 and then the goal was just to overwhelm him with numbers lol
It is said that Hogger is more powerful than any other thing in Warcraft, Starcraft, Minecraft, Overwatch, The Lost Vikings, and various other franchises.
I can't wait until WOW Classic comes out I will be organizing 40 man Hogger groups just for S&G

Also need to note in bfa that durning the horde chain where they infiltrate Stormwind and go into stockades to free the Zul Trolls there is a Hogger costume laying next to a woman in a cage where she tells you that he made her wear it.
