The scenery is spectacular! I was fortunate to ride the narrow gauge train from Durango to Silverton in June, 1968. It was a great trip too. I noticed that many places along the road did not have guard rails. It reminded of the time my grandfather was riding in a car that his nephew was driving. We were going on similar roads in California. My grandfather remarked that there were no guard rails. His nephew said "Guard rails are for sissies."
Thanks for all you do out there ,your a life line to sanity. Beautiful country would like to visit the west when the madness is over. Be safe until next time. God speed.
This trip had the most beautiful scenery of any you have made so far. So glad you let us ride along with you on this trip. Keep up the great work Mike. Love all the videos but this one is #1 on the list. Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you. I am not ambulatory right now, also shut in due to virus. Riding along with you makes me feel free and I get to go places I have never been. Also seeing places I have not been able to travel for awhile.
Mike I was just watching one of your videos, where the military jets buzzed by you in AUSTIN NV..almost a year to the day, and IT WAS AWESOME!! And the best part is you caught it on your video...THANKS MIKE FOR THE WILD RIDE.
If you didn't have the chance to see the video with the fighter jets, please check it out and definitely deserves a thumb up. Part 2 ..AUSTIN NV to Winnemucca NV. Buzzed by Military Jets.. You Won't regret it, One Comment was the Pilots were saying, lets scare the hell out of this trucker...little did they know Mike was hooting and hollaring happy he caiught it on video..it was way cool!!!
Thank you for letting us ride shotgun in beautiful country. I really needed some time in the high country. I guess one good thing about this pandemic is that it's cut down on the tourist traffic, but that's a double edge sword for those who depend on the visitor $. Stay safe
I had forgotten how beautiful that stretch of road is. And didn’t realize how tense I have been until a few minutes in and all those mountains and trees and blue skies bought some needed peace. Until......the high approach to Silverton. Glad you had the wheel because I started to hold my breath a bit near those drop offs. Like that was going to help😋
Loved this ride! I spent many an hour driving north and south on this highway. Beautiful scenery! I'm originally from Austria and find Colorado to be every bit as beautiful as Austria is!
I try to find the routes this guy takes on Google Maps and then use the street view to enlarge the photos... really, breathtaking sites. The entire Rocky Mountain west from Colorado to Wyoming, up to Montana down to Utah, Nevada Arizona and California are just breathtaking. Makes me wish I wasn't born on the East Coast...
Happy happy joy joy,I just love riding with you Mike,Sherry from Indiana ✌❤ Thank the Good Lord for the truckers ,for without them and trains,America would fall. Thank you Father,Amen Amen🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
Hey Mike, I've driven south on 550 quite a few times but never north. Only on the train to Silverton, so the views northbound were first time. Love my mountains. Keep it up. We are all addicted.
This route in particular is very scenic. My first time to Silverton from Durango was white knuckle City!! Some of those roadside cliffs are quite close to the road.
Hi Mike interesting trip. Been to Silverton on the train, then on to Urray by car. Nice drive but scary as hell in winter time, no guard rails. Thank you for the seat, see you next trip. Edward
MIKE hello I drove this road in a truck and camper. I love it then and I love it now. We stop in Silverton. At the time should have taken the train but do not have the time . My favorite ride. I used to live in Durango and this was a Sunday motorcycle ride I’d do several times a summer. August weather you could always count on monsoons turning into hail.
What a beautiful scenic route you are on. That last town you called Silverton was the one that didn't allow visitors? The snow on the mountains is beautiful. It was 50°'s here yesterday & today due to an "Atmospheric Roadblock over the Carolinas'." Mike have a nice day. Peace always be unto you as well.
my daughter in law and some of her family will be driving this, weekend of June 26-29 then take the train - funny how you are now showing this;i love your drives- esp when you are in TX panhandle and go through Clayton, N.M. and the John Morrow highway.. TY and drive safe.
Such Beautiful scenery. We miss you when you don't put out many videos, I am sure others do to. If possible could you do more like you used to. Until next time ✌

If I was one of those cars in front of you coming down the pass I would have pulled over.... I'm a little chicken when it come to a 18 wheeler behind me... I learn to drive in the Great Smoky Mtns, two lane curvy roads, oh yea...Great shotgun ride today... Thanks

This has got to be the most beautiful state in this country...many locales look like cities in Switzerland and Germany.
North of Silverton on US 550 is Ouray, nicknamed "the Switzerland of America". Beautiful village nestled in the Rockies!
I try to find the routes this guy takes on Google Maps and then use the street view to enlarge the photos... really, breathtaking sites. The entire Rocky Mountain west from Colorado to Wyoming, up to Montana down to Utah, Nevada Arizona and California are just breathtaking.
