How to fix not pairing remote on Mi Box S

Just simply remove one battery in your remote and put it back again, the instruction will show up again, do it and it will work. No need to do these troublesome steps

Yes, I see you figured out what a piece of crap the Mi Box S is when it comes to pairing remotes. You have to unpair the existing one. You can't just add the new one as an accessory.
Now here is a trick: if you have two remotes, power down the existing one (do not unpair it). Pull the battery. Power up the new remote. It will pair with the Mi Box. Power up the old one. It still works. So you think you have two remotes, hooray.
BUT (A): I cannot get voice control to work from two remotes which are paired using this trick! One of them appears not to be listening to sound or not transmitting. (And this is not a hardware problem; by fiddling with the pairings, you can get voice from any remote, just not both at the same time.)
BUT (B): I cannot pair a third remote this way. If I power down two remotes, add a third and power up the two again, one of those two is kicked off, so only two work.
This looks like a limitation of the Mi Box S firmware: (A) at most two HW remotes connected, with (B) at most one working with voice.
I sent e-mails to Xiaomi support, to see what they think.
Maybe there is some third-party BT pairing app which can do it.
