- Basic Black had a front row sit watching Teddy Riley create New Jack Swing and learning from the master.
Three years ago Basic Black reformed with founding members Lloyd Turner and Kelvin Bradshaw. They then recruited vocalists Sean Jones and Anthony Durpree, and are in the progress of releasing a new album and back on the road touring to New Jack Swing and 90s RnB fans around the world.
Basic Black discuss their debut album which spawn the hits, Nothing but a Party, She's Mine and Special Kind of Fool.
Basic Black was an R&B group from the ’90s based in Atlanta, Georgia that consisted of members Darryl “Dezo” Adams, Kelvin “K.B.” Bradshaw, Walter “Mucho” Scott and Lloyd “Spec” Turner. They were managed by Gene Griffin (the former manager of R&B group Guy).
In 1990, Basic Black released their self-titled debut which peaked at #178 on the Billboard 200 and #24 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart.
Their first single “She’s Mine” peaked at #24 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #17 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 18 weeks, making it the group’s highest chart appearance on the R&B charts to date.
The second single from the album “Nothing But a Party” peaked at #26 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 15 weeks.
Basic Black’s last chart appearance was with their last single “Whatever it Takes” which peaked at #64 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 8 weeks.

Why was Guy mad at Basic Black, when they had close ties to each other? You would have thought that Basic Black came out of thin air and starting doing New Jack Swing.
It was anger towards Gene Griffin
I feel so sorry for your father 😭😭.
Thank you my brother. First time losing a loved one, especially someone so close and dear. I'm just thankful that he came to visit me and was with me
This brings back memories good memories when I was stationed in Aschaffenberg Germany. The drumming gimmick in the video is pointless.
I don't remember these dudes who are they?

Too me, they were better than Guy. Shame they disbanded.
They were 😥
They got back together 2 years ago but sadly Dezo Adams died early last year. They now have 2 new singers who are really good.

@@HalftimeChat Thank you sooo much and thanks for the links. You are a gem!
😇
to me also they were .
More heart more soul and the better vocalist (love Dezo's high notes and holding em).
Fantastic album - but Guy was the rock noone could climb those days.
And Teddy an institution
