Hi Maori Brothers & Sisters, This song I heard it for the first time in 1987, when I met a Maori Brother in the Sinai dessert working for a Peace Keeping Force MFO. His name is Mike Taankink. My roots is from the Moluccan Islands of Indonesia. My culture is very simular as the Maori culture, that's why Mike & I get along well together. Mike infected me with the Maori Culture. Since then until now, I always listen to Maori songs, if it is gospel, modern, as long my hearts is enjoying the song. I wish al my Maori Brothers & Sisters God Blessings.

Thank you I play this many many nights, and whilst I am pakeha, it keeps me close to my beautiful old Maori friend Tama, who suffered a massive stroke half a decade ago and cannot sing no longer, he taught me all these beautiful Maori songs, nothing in the world as strong and loving as the Maori voice giving te aroha.. this is the first time i've heard this song and It touches my soul. I can't stop the tears listening to the sweet harmony. I don't understand the lyrics but this must be how angels sound in heaven. I am of samoan ancestry yet all of polynesia are my people. Polynesians (not to sound bias) are God's chosen people.

When I first heard this song I had no idea what was being said but the melody & the voices were so soothing. It sounded sacred...like a prayer. I stopped what I was doing & felt like praising God through this song. I felt humbled in the greatness of God`s creation & thankful that I am part of it. THEN, I read what the song was about. The haunting melody suits the lyrics perfectly.

Thanks for posting this song. Maori music touches my heart and soul, as does all Polynesian/Pacific music. It makes me long for my spiritually home and it reminds me of the fact that we all are brothers and sisters walking the sometimes rocky road of this world - in different colours, different ways and different places. Peace and respect from Sweden.

Through these past recent six years, I had had experiences in my life that seem to say that I might had been Polynesian in a past life. Particularly at Kahoolawe (Hawaii). Although New Zealand might not actually be one of those places, I still feel some kind of welcoming connection in their songs and their language is beautiful just like Hawaiian. It's songs like this one that always has a raw beauty to it. I like that.
Amazing video and thank you for sharing. ^__^

He tino waiata tera! E mirimiri ana ratou oku taringa. Ka taea e ahau te rongo te mauri me te aroha hoki o te roopu waiata. Waimarie tatou mo nga kupu hohonu me nga whakaaro tuturu ki roto i te waiata ra. Nga mihi nui ki te roopu.

    Tangi a te ruru,
    kei te hokihoki mai e.
    E whaka-whero-whero
    i te putahitanga.
    Nāku nei ra koe
    i tuku kia haere.
    Tēra puritia iho
    nui rawa te aroha e.
    Verse, sung twice
    Te Hokinga Mai,
    tēna koutou
    Tangi ana te ngākau
    i te aroha
    Tū tonu ra te mana
    te ihi o nga tupuna
    kua wehea atu rā
    Mauria mai te mauri tangata
    hei oranga mo te mōrehu
    tangi mōkai nei
E rapu ana i te ara tika
    mo tātou katoa.
    Te Hokinga Mai,
    Te Hokinga Mai
    Tū tangata tonu!

Young Maori are so immersed in our Maori culture in Aotearoa, throughout New Zealand in 2018, we were never allowed to speak our reo/language from the 1950s to 1980 it was forbidden to do so under British colonial rule

@leadingshield You don't have to understand the words if you listen with your heart! 100% correct !! Yes my
friend ! This is exactly was the reason, identify a song after 15 years and some.
The first time I heard this song in 1993 in New Zealand. This was for 15 years and some the latest.
Now I can understand the text. Best regards from Slovenia santorin 1000
