I love what you said about self harm urges. I think with urges it's so important to remember self harm is an addiction. When I was younger I'd say like 'oh I was addicted but now I'm not' and vice versa, but that's not how addiction works. Now I've accepted that no matter how I currently feel about self harm, I'm addicted to it, and actually accepting that mentality and working around it is so much more effective. Marie , have you ever considered that you may have Asperger's.. you really give off the vibe as someone who is Asperger's more than bpd .. plus anorexia is pretty high in Asperger's .. it's also normal for people or women with Asperger's to develope some bpd like coping mechanisms to cope with being so different

Talking about mental health is good, it’s great to get the word out there. Maybe our next generation won’t have to ‘talk’ about mental health but actually act upon the worlds mental health... and just be better... Talking about your own mental health is brave. Mental health should be first nature.

Can someone help explain the difference between thoughts versus urges? Like what differentiates them? What's different about thinking about self harming versus the urge to self harm? Is the urge stronger and more likely to result in the act? The same with ed thoughts? Is there a difference between thoughts of restriction or b/ping versus the urge to do so? I struggle with all of the above and never really thought about the difference before. Both usually result in the act for me 🤷♀️🤦♀️
In my opinion, the thought comes before the urge...So the thought of it might trigger the urge which might trigger the act of it, but don't necessarily. For me I can feel urges in my body but I don't get that from "just" the thought. Therefore an urge is "stronger" than a thought to me
I think an urge can be a bit like wanting to scratch an itch - you feel a 'need' to do it, it's hard to stop yourself -, whereas just a thought is like when you don't have an itch but might think "I *could* rub my leg/arm/neck..." - but there's no actual motivation to really do it.

Im under the community mental health team but in all honesty I just feel like I’ve been really let down by them, I haven’t seen anyone since January and was promised an urgent medical review 3 months ago that is yet to happen. I really feel so stuck and just don’t know what to do xxx
