The Bible was written and compiled (old testament compiled, new testament written) 11 centuries before Martin Luther was even born, so it was not his property. He did not write it or own it. so, @ u protestants: WHO gave him the authority to change it???? WHO gave him the authority to determine which books were valid? The answer, of course is NO ONE. Jesus never gave any authority to any "reformer" nor did he commission them to preach the gospel OR to "correct error" Jesus ONLY gave that authority to HIS CHURCH.
@YAJUN YUAN Show us what your sources ofd this information are b cuz I'm pretty sire you are not being honest. The descision was already made and the bible was completed at the Catholic council of Nicea in the year 397....long before the date that you are quoting here. I have enough experience with you protestants to know that you are not always truthful when you present your evidence
@YAJUN YUAN Funny but the decision as to which books would be included was made by the ENTIRE CHURCH COUNCIL and it was made 11 centuries before protestantism ever existed. NO Protestant church existed anywhere on planet earth when the books of the bible were chosen. So regardless of any disagreements existed within the church, the decision was made and the bible was written and compiled by the Catholic church and those books were a part of it PERIOD. So the fact is that Luther did not write it, nor was it his property, so therefore he was never given authority to change it. Plain and simple.
@YAJUN YUAN ➨ JESUS gives authority of the Church to PETER (not Luther, not Calvin, not Ellen White or any other "reformer" and not Constantine either) ✦ MATT 16:13-19: Jesus gives keys of the Kingdom to PETER and builds his church upon PETER. ✦ ACTS 15:7-12: "After much debate had taken place, PETER got up and said to them, “My brothers, you are well aware that from early days God made his choice among you THAT THROUGH MY MOUTH THE GENTILES WOULD HEAR THE WORD OF THE GOSPEL AND BELIEVE." ✦ JOHN 21:15-19: Jesus tells PETER to "Feed my sheep" The body of PETER now lies under the altar of St Peter's basilica. Evidence is even shown by unbiased secular media giants National Geographic, A&E & a book: "The Bones of St Peter" ➨The True Church is a TEACHING CHURCH: (To TEACH is to impart knowledge that is not oresently known....not in writing) ✦JOHN 14:26-31 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall TEACH you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ✦JOHN 16:14: "When the Spirit of truth comes He will guide you to all truth." ✦ Acts 8:26-40 King James Version (KJV) 30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
Hey. Long time!? The writings of the Early Church Fathers include many quotes from the Deutercanonical books including from Saints: Pope Clement I (Wisdom: 12:12) Irenaeus (Baruch: 4:36-5:9 & Daniel 13:56) Polycarp (Tobit: 4:10, 12:9) Cyprian (Wisdom: 3:4, 1 Macc. 2:52, Daniel 14:5) Augustine (2 Macc. 12:43) The fact that the Councils of Rome, Hippo & Carthage codified the current Bible that Catholics use renders any prior disagreement, dissenting voices or points made, moot. The New Testament is replete with Old Testament quotes including from the Deutercanonical & possibly one of the most famous of all Bible quotes in St. Matthew 7:12 "All things therefore whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you also to them. For this is the law and the prophets" Directly lifted from Tobit 4:16 "See thou never do to another what thou wouldst hate to have done to thee by another." The Catholic Church has all this covered.
@YAJUN YUAN As a "bible believing christian" (protestant) Biblical evidence should be enough for you, and you have already been shown FROM THE BIBLE that Jesus gave authority to PETER and that was done 15 centuries brfore the protestant revolt ever took place, and since you mention the early church fathers, the word "Catholic" was used in writing by St. Ignatious of antioch in the year 110. BOTH National Geographic and A&E Did documentries showing the discovery of the body of Peter in St Peter's basilica, and even more evidence is shown in the book: "The bones of St. Peter" I watched a portion of the National geography documentry myself. As a former Protestant , l never knew about the 7 additional books of the Catholics.. l was rise in the 66 books of a Protestant Bible.. To make the story short, after my former Church abandoned me when l needed them the most ( I also lost my faith to God).. after several years later , l met a Priest. That Priest led me to back to Christ again after l saw His sincerity in helping me when l have a problem, l sincerely seen the true Christianity in Catholics... Then 1 day when I'm in a bookstore l saw a Catholics Bible next to the Protestant Bible, l was curious to see why the Bible of the Catholics were much thicker than the Protestant Bible then when l peruse it l was shock to discover the additional 7 books.. namely: Maccabees 1&2, Tobit, Judith, Baruch, Sirach, wisdom. Now, I'm convinced that the Protestant made a huge Sinned against God for subtracting the Word of God..
Also why have the Protestants removed parts of Daniel and Esther? One interesting point is that the Anglicans [aka Episcopalians] do not accept parts of Daniel 3, but do use the Song of the 3 Children [Dan 3:56-88] in their Morning Prayer Service. Luther also considered editing the New Testament, he wanted to drop the Epistle of James and Revelation from his Bible.
We have the complete bible given to us by God Himself not by any church . God uses individuals and groups to do things including compiling scriptures into the canon. So when the bible was compiled God put it together for us to guide us. All the people that you can mention did not have authority to change any scripture and that includes the Roman Catholic church. Have you read the 7 books or are you like the general Catholic who knows they exist but has no clue what they say? Scripture never contradicts scripture so how is it that Tobit 6 has beliefs not found anywhere else in scripture and contradicts methods used by Jesus? Prayers for the dead from Maccabees based on one verse ripped from context? As to removing books or adding to the scriptures please tell us with scripture where we are to pray to St. Joseph?
@@bobloblawb2593 there is only one verse that really supports the Trinity. Should that be dropped because it's the main support for the Trinity. We both know the score. Luther didn't like the selling of indulgences by the RCC. and he was correct. But Luther's solution was to remove any books that dealt with purgatory. No purgatory, no indulgences. Stop deceiving yourself.
@@nosuchthing8 The Jews do not approve of the 7 extra books written by various authors just as St. Jerome in the 5th century did not approve of the 7 books as doctrinally accurate but good for historical reference and Yes he was overruled by the RCC. Luther did not approve of the 7 books for the same reasoning as Jerome however what he attempted to do was without authority from God to try to remove an entire book of James . We have 66 books in the bible and we have 7 books in the apocrypha, (from Greek apokryptein, “to hide away”), in biblical literature, works outside an accepted canon of scripture. The history of the term's usage indicates that it referred to a body of esoteric writings that were at first prized, later tolerated, and finally excluded. Romans 3:1 What, then, is the advantage of being a Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? 2 Much in every way. First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God. Several verse support the Trinity but there is no support for doctrines , Purgatory or Indulgences , not found in the early church . Heb 9:27 should have read that it is appointed man once to die and have time before heaven to cleanse themselves before heaven and judgement , but it does not. All repentance happens while you are alive , as there is no reference in all of scripture that says you are given a second chance to repent after you pass on . There is no reference in all of scripture to say that Jesus who died for every sin you have done , are doing , or will do ,is not covered by His ultimate sacrifice for ALL sin. Purgatory for a final clean up before heaven . CCC 1031 The Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification of the elect, which is entirely different from the punishment of the damned. The Church formulated her doctrine of faith on Purgatory especially at the Councils of Florence and Trent. The tradition of the Church, by reference to certain texts of Scripture, speaks of a cleansing fire: As for certain lesser faults, we must believe that, before the Final Judgment, there is a purifying fire. He who is truth says that whoever utters blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will be pardoned neither in this age nor in the age to come. From this sentence we understand that certain offenses can be forgiven in this age, but certain others in the age to come. Notice that CCC 1031 contains no scriptural support ? No reference to any at all? The words when you look them up in scripture come from Matthew, but does it say that sins will be forgiven in the afterlife? Nope but the interpretation is given and what choice do you have to accept or reject it? Praying for the dead comes from Maccabee's 12 but have a look at the context not the selected verses that ignore the context. Judas prays for the dead. What dead ? Why did they die? Do you really think that they are worthy of godliness?
@@nosuchthing8 Romans 3:1 What, then, is the advantage of being a Jew? Or what is the value of circumcision? 2 Much in every way. First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God. So the Jews have been entrusted with the scriptures and they said the 7 books written between the time of the old testament and the new were good for historical information but not as any basis of doctrine . The old testament does not contradict anything in the new testament and vice versa .The 7 books have some questionable doctrines that are not substantiated by old or new testament. You are correct the Jews of today reject the messiah and the new testament that portrays Jesus as the messiah. One of the basic principles of biblical interpretation is the analogia scriptura, the analogy of Scripture--we must compare Scripture with Scripture in order to understand its full and proper sense. Since the Bible doesn't contradict itself, any interpretation of a specific passage that contradicts the general teaching of the Bible is to be rejected.
The most readable book I have ever read on the history of the Bible is 'Where We Got the Bible. Our Debt to The Catholic Church' by Henry G Graham It was first published in 1911 and reprinted by Catholic Answers in 1997. The book also contains an account of Graham's conversion from the Calvinistic Kirk of Scotland entitled 'From the Kirk to the Catholic Church'.
@@ronaldlatchman1268 Ronald, Jews never admitted Apostles or Bishops to discuss Old Testament Canon decisions. Christian Bishops in union with the Pope made independent decisions to guide Christians to the truth. Jews had no control over decisions made by Apostles. Therefore there was no need to consult their opinions since Jesus clearly guaranteed the presence of the Holy Spirit to His Church to guide it to all the truth. That's why St. Paul calls the Catholic Church the pillar and foundation of the truth. (1Tim. 3:15). God bless.
@YAJUN YUAN Yajun, Thanks for your comments. You should know, regarding your affirmation, that there was no "Dogma" declared, only an opinion. The final list compiled at the Council of Rome and approved by Pope Damasus through his Decree in 382AD, is the one confirmed by the councils at Hippo (393), Carthage (397, 419), Florence (1442) and conclusively ratified in 1546 at the Council of Trent by the entire Church. God bless.
Yes, agree. It's so bizarre, their selective use of logic. I have nothing against any other religion! But when you let ANOTHER religion chose your holy books, you are off the chain!
I'm former Protestant myself, so I used to wrongly believe that Protestants were the true custodians of the Bible - boy was I wrong. It's sorta like the chicken and the egg - which came first? The Bible or the Church? Obviously, Jesus gave us the Church, and the Bible followed, not the other way around. For Sola Scriptura to be correct, the Bible would have to come first.
Bryan, Isn't it true that the first official decision by the Church (not an individual) discerning and fixing the canon, as currently exists, was in 382 at the Council of Rome presided over by Pope Damasus. This council agreed with the canon of St Athanasius (372).
No ...the Bible was already completed before the fourth century ....what happened in the fourth century was a consolidation of the language Not the cannon.
In 1 Maccabees 12:1-19, 14:16-19 and 15:15-24, the Romans are spoken well of by the Jews and become their allies. Probably not what people who hate the Roman Catholic Church would want in their bibles.
Re the point about "did Jesus quote such and such OT book thereby validating it" (about the 88.00 min. mark). Another angle from which to respond is by asking where does the Bible say that Jesus must reference an Old Testament book for it to be recognized as inspired? Please quote the book, chapter and verse that says this. If the verse cannot be found then Sola scriptura is being violated. What is truly being affirmed by that argument (and most non-Cath positions) is that it is really based on sola Protestant theology, not sola scriptura as they claim.
For goodness' sake, there is only one holy Bible, and it is a Catholic book FULL STOP. The heading for this vid "Difference between Catholic and Protestant Bibles" may contribute to the ongoing misunderstanding of the Bible by outsiders. The NT was written by the early Catholics for Catholics; and the Catholic Church put the Bible (OT & NT) together as a book in the late 300 AD. Protestantism came into existence in about 1517 AD, found the Bible, read and tried to self-interpret it; but regardless of how long or what they have done to it (removing 7 books, mistranslating, reprinting), not only they cannot understand it as a rule and a law of theology, their messed up versions of the poor book can never be rightly referred to as 'Protestant Bibles'. For that would be plagiarism.
Quick question, if I may. Why did we take out, or completely change Sirach 24:24-26? The Douay Rheims has a completely different reading, than more recent, translations.
They are using Codex Sinaiticus for modern translation. That verse is absent in that manuscript so they deny its authenticity. However there is belief now that Codex Sinaiticus is a 13th century forgery.
Exactly. Luther also wanted to removve Hebrews, Jude and James. That would have left 63. So, the 66 is a Godincidence. A clue letting people know the Protestant Bible is incomplete.
36:00 wS my question for a while. Christians base the canonical by what the jews said should be scripture but yet they are the ones that denied Jesus. Because of this I don't trust jewish authority on scripture nor the protistant view because scripture should be inspired by the spirit and not the mind of man. This is why I read the catholic Bible. I also have all the other books that tje Ethiopians use.
The Liberty University, in Lynchburg Virginia, folks and their Jerry Falwell false church believe that the Bible was put together at the council of Nicea. They are so lost and need our prayers.
Marcion wasn't that far off. The OT was not written for gentiles. I have the "very first bible" written in 144AD. I'm very comfortable chucking the entire OT. "Not your book, not your god". For me, reading the OT is like reading love letters from someone else's husband and thinking it's addressed to me.
The Revised Standard Version Catholic edition is a good translation. RSV-CE. Some people like the old language of the King James version, and in that case, you can check out the Douay-Rheims Bible. This is another good translation that comes from the original Vulgate which utilized the original text of Scripture.
If you live in England or Wales get the Catholic Truth Society [CTS] Bible. It may also be available in Scotland and Northern Ireland by ordering online.
Everyone should watch this video, it's a quick dive into Bible history. I also Subscribed to Gary's TH-cam channel and look forward to watching his videos.
So you don't accept revelation? You don't accept the Gospels? Since when does each individual person get to choose which books of the Bible they accept? No individual person has the authority to reject the Bible. We accept it as authoritative or we don't.
@@CatholicTruthOfficial the apocrypha was written before Jesus' birth making it Old testament, and the Jews don't agree that it's canonical, so what gave a single man, bishop Damascus the right to add those books to old testament Canon when very few of the early church fathers acknowledged the books let alone said they were divinely inspired. Add on to the fact there is so much contradiction like praying for the dead, the passage that y'all somehow did mental gymnastics and land at purgatory with, and doing almsgiving as a way to have our sins forgiven. Those books are great historical references and can provide some wisdom but they are not divinely inspired nor should any church write their own doctrine based on those books, which is what the Roman Catholic church has done and is why i simply can't be apart of such heresy. And while on the topic of "removing" from the Bible, why is it the RCC is the only church that has the commandment against idols and graven images removed from the Ten Commandments? Quite coincidental since y'all are the ones who love bowing down to and kissing graven images of Mary and the saints.
I remember this year my catholic friend and I were talking and we went deeper into the conversation of the bible and how we complete the bible in three years. So he thought that after every year, bibles fell from heaven and straight to the Catholic Churches lol. I was dead lol😂!
@YAJUN YUAN where did you get that info? Also, the point of mass is to be in communion with Christ, as he commanded in John 6 and at the last supper. So, we as Catholics have many resources to learn about the Faith inside and outside of Church. But... we have the real body and blood of Christ to consume at mass.
@YAJUN YUAN the biggest difference between the true church and the 30000 plus protestant denominations - our center of worship is Christ, not the pastor or the music
@YAJUN YUAN unless Pope Francis is speaking ex cathedra, I take everything he says with a grain of salt. My point is most Catholics are going to mass with the primary purpose that it's where the body of Christ (the Church) in heaven and on earth unite with God. So whether or not every verse in the Bible is read and taught, that's not a point we feel needs to be addressed. Myself, I love to learn about the Faith and also learn scripture, as taught by saints over the centuries. But not all Catholics have the same need as me, but they are still faithful Christians. When they go to mass, they are participating in communion with God.
I think that the possibility that the God of Truth, communicated to us through human authors, over thousands of years, such a Book that is so open to mis-interpretation, and that He did NOT provide for us a way of knowing with certainty such Truth, defies all logic.
@YAJUN YUAN Yajun, Thanks for your comments. You should condider that early Christians read the Greek translation of the Old Testament, the Septuagint. It included the seven deuterocanonical books. You should also consider the fact that authors of the New Testament quoted freely from the Septuagint over 300 times. Here are some examples where the New Testament writers directly quoted the Deuterocanonical books. Mt. 6:19-20 - Jesus’ statement about laying up for yourselves treasure in heaven follows Sirach 29:11 - lay up your treasure. Matt.. 7:12 - Jesus’ golden rule “do unto others” is the converse of Tobit 4:15 - what you hate, do not do to others. Matt. 7:16,20 - Jesus’ statement “you will know them by their fruits” follows Sirach 27:6 - the fruit discloses the cultivation. Matt. 9:36 - the people were “like sheep without a shepherd” is same as Judith 11:19 - sheep without a shepherd. Matt. 11:25 - Jesus’ description “Lord of heaven and earth” is the same as Tobit 7:18 - Lord of heaven and earth. Matt. 12:42 - Jesus refers to the wisdom of Solomon which was recorded and made part of the deuterocanonical books. Matt. 16:18 - Jesus’ reference to the “power of death” and “gates of Hades” references Wisdom 16:13. Matt. 22:25; Mark 12:20; Luke 20:29 - Gospel writers refer to the canonicity of Tobit 3:8 and 7:11 regarding the seven brothers. Matt. 24:15 - the “desolating sacrilege” Jesus refers to is also taken from 1 Macc. 1:54 and 2 Macc. 8:17. It is obvious that no individual could provide an "infallible" list of inspired books. The bottom line: “We have no other assurance that the books of Moses, the four Gospels, and the other books are the true word of God,” wrote Augustine, “but by the canon of the Catholic Church.” May God bless your discernment
@@bcalvert321 Ben, You Just have to take the protestant blindfold off so you may see the truth. Here I will show some unavoidable truths you, evidently, refuse to see. Let's begin with a typical protestant quote: COLOSSIANS 2:8 8. See to it that no one captivate you with an empty, seductive philosophy according to human tradition, according to the elemental powers of the world and not according to Christ. Paul's words clearly describe the protestant experiment, not Catholic certainty inspired by the Holy Spirit. Our Lord Jesus says. MATHEW 7, 21-24 21. “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who DOES the Will of my Father who is in heaven. It is therefore very clear that you must DO something and not just say "you have faith". God the son is first revealed through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit given to a fisherman named Simon, whose name means reed. MATTHEW 16:15-19 15. He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16. Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17. Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. 18. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. 19. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Human inspiration has not revealed the truth about Jesus to Peter; our heavenly Father, knowing Peter's soul, chose him to express it. Thus our Lord Jesus says to Simon: "You are Peter". Such name, which means Rock, was never before used in Jewish history. Knowing Jesus spoke Aramaic with His Apostles, as shown in John 1:42, Jesus is permanently changing Simon's name to Kepha which only means Rock in Aramaic, a word that was transliterated to Greek as Cephas. Thus expressing it in Greek with the masculine form of Petra or Rock, which is "Petros" in koine Greek. Our Lord then proceeds to reveal the reason why Peter from that point forward will be the foundation stone as the Protos, or the leader of His one true Church which would never be destroyed. What happens after Jesus gives the promise that nothing could destroy His one and only Church? Jesus proceeds to give it His full authority, asserting that all must obey its expressed teachings: MATTHEW 18:17 17. If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector. Why do you think we must listen to the one Church founded by Christ? Because our Lord affirms in: JOHN 16, 13 13. When the Spirit of TRUTH comes, He WILL guide you into ALL the TRUTH; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. Such words, Ben, mean there will be no uncertainty about the truth or the eternal existence of Christ's one true Church, where no divisions are permitted. Why? Because Jesus wants permanent UNITY: JOHN 17:20-23 20. “I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word, 21. that they may all BE ONE; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22. The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may BE ONE even as WE ARE ONE, 23. I in them and thou in me, that they may become PERFECTLY ONE, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me. Perfectly ONE, my friend. Therefore, by choosing to be protestant, you have chosen to participate in a division that is not the will of God. Not surprising, believing our Lord, St. Paul teaches: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:16-17 16. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? 17. Because there is ONE BREAD, we who are many are ONE BODY, for we all partake of the ONE BREAD. Jesus also confirms that only ONE Magisterium will speak for Him ALWAYS, in matters of faith and morals: LUKE 10:16 16. “He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me. Thus St. Paul teaches: 1 TIMOTHY 3:15 15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is THE CHURCH of the living God, the PILLAR and FOUNDATION of THE TRUTH. Finally, Peter's successors, the Popes, future leaders of His one true Church, will always be attacked by Satan but Jesus will pray for them, as He did for Peter, so the gates of hell will never prevail against His one Church. LUKE 22:31-32 "Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I HAVE PRAYED FOR YOU that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again (after the denials), strengthen your brethren" Such brethren not only existed in the first century, they will exist until the end of times. That's why Jesus said the mission is until the end of times and it will be accompanied with His constant pressence in His Church. MATTHEW, 28:19-20 19. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20. and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, TO THE END OF THE AGE.” May God bless your discernment.
Boxing rules need human referees to resolve disputes. Baseball rules need human umpires. Constitutions need courts. The most wicked of sinners have enough sense to know that all foundational documents need a pre-appointed, authorized human body to decide on the best interpretation of their written rules and foundation documents to resolve disputes. Disputes never end. All large organizations also have an unwritten oral tradition that they likely consider too obvious and too unnecessary to put into writing...like their leaders not openly siding with an enemy in matters of security. God isn't that smart? He just tosses a big, fat book at us and says as he walks away, "You guys figure it out for yourself? I have an appointment."
@YAJUN YUAN So how do you plan how organizing a human church using just spirits without bodies? No Protestant yet has done it. Am I in the presence of the most might mind since Christ? Pray for humility or give up all hope.

The Old Testament came through the Jewish people,. The Old Testament didn’t come through the Catholic Church.... Your comment is ambiguous. Jesus Christ gave the Catholic Church the authority to bind and earth and in heaven and loose on earth and in heaven. You don't believe that is enough authority to affirm that the Deuterocanonicals are inspired? Do you believe that Jesus is God?
You mean like when he made his Bible translation into German the Catholic Church had already declared these books scripture? Oh wait they hadn’t that came a decade later at Trent. Isn’t it odd how the church wants to pretend people like Jerome pope Gregory the great and a literal ton of other people for the first 1500 years of Christianity thought these books where scripture. The most questionable of books in the new testament 2nd Peter and revelation have received catholicity within a hundred year of them being written. The apocrypha never had catholicity.
You can’t remove something that wasn’t included dogmatically till after you left the church. If Martin Luther didn’t hold to the apocrypha as the only difference between him and Rome than he would have been welcome by any Catholic of his time ; even among those who held to the apocrypha as scripture.
5 protestants disliked. The sad thing is that they believe the Bible as a book more especifically the KJV existed as a single tome since the times of St. Paul.
The seven books were found in both Hebrew and Greek. Either way, when those Jewish people translated the books, that was after the time of Christ, after the time they rejected him, and after the time they had no authority to make decisions regarding God and his Word. Christ had called them a synagogue of Satan. So they had no authority on the matter.

The miraculous character of the Aristeas legend might indicate the esteem and disdain in which the translation was held at the time; Greek translations of Hebrew scriptures were in circulation among the Alexandrian Jews.[8] Egyptian papyri from the period have led most scholars to view as probable Aristeas's dating of the translation of the Pentateuch to the third century BCE. Whatever share the Ptolemaic court may have had in the translation, it satisfied a need felt by the Jewish community (in whom the knowledge of Hebrew was waning among the demands of every-day life).[9] Greek scriptures were in wide use by the time of Jesus and Paul of Tarsus (early Christianity) because most Christian proselytes, God-fearers, and other gentile sympathizers of Hellenistic Judaism could not read Hebrew. The text of the Greek Old Testament is quoted more often than the original Hebrew Bible text in the Greek New Testament[10][4] (particularly the Pauline epistles)[11] by the Apostolic Fathers, and later by the Greek Church Fathers. Modern critical editions of the Greek Old Testament are based on the Codices Alexandrinus, Sinaiticus, and Vaticanus. The fourth- and fifth-century Greek Old Testament manuscripts have different lengths. The Codex Alexandrinus, for example, contains all four books of the Maccabees; the Codex Sinaiticus contains 1 and 4 Maccabees, and the Codex Vaticanus contains none of the four books
Actually, the Hebrew word is hū, which can be translated many ways depending on the context. In Genesis 29:12, it is indeed used as “she” when referring to Rachael. Since God is addressing the snake about the Woman (Eve) it very well could mean Mary (The New Eve) or her Offspring, but Mary has no power to do it on her own; the only way she can crush the Serpent is through her acceptance as the Mother of Jesus.
Matthew 23:1-3 clearly states that those who sat in the seat of Moses were still ordained of God, despite their great wickedness, to teach others. That was under the law of Moses. So how can anyone say the God of Grace and Truth withdrew the same approbation from the both good and sinful Christians who never stopped defining doctrine...not for themselves...but for the good of the church? That's insane! Such insanity is the twin sister of those fatheads who think one can study a subject one's whole life and still know nothing worthwhile about it...as if one can be corrected in one's profession by the first guy we stop on the street. It's nothing but raw arrogance, the very first disqualifier for heaven.
Some protestants should just have some critical thinking and research a church that was there before theirs instead of perpetual gossips and calomnies. Very easy and they should understand that they don't have to hate catholics because they have some differences.

@@nosuchthing8 yes I understand that it is strong but when I follow the rules of discernment which Christ Himself taught us, then there is no other way to judge this. The Church is the Institution of Christ . He said that there is only ONE Flock and ONE Shepherd. He said that "...not even the gates of hell will prevail over it...." He means that hell will do everything to break and destroy it. It started on day one. Luther is the one to blame for the Protestant movement ,which still tells so many lies about us and portray us as idolaters and so much more. They have not only taken away 7 books but also most of the sacraments, the priesthood, the Pope and so much more. I am blaming the one who started, he is the one who did the job of the Evil One. Those who followed him were simple people who were easily convinced. They still loved Jesus but His Church was hated. They think we treat Mary as a Goddess. They have no idea about anything but invent their own facts. These two things do not go together. Therefore I see them as indoctrinated people who mean well and are probably very good to others but ignorant of the truth. Some of our best apologists are ex-Protestants who thought that the last thing they would EVER do is to convert to Catholicism . It took them years to find out what we really are and now they are among the most fiery defenders of the Faith. As true Catholics we should not hate anyone but pray for those who are indoctrinated, to find the truth. It is SO easy to be indoctrinated, the ONLY way is to be educated in the truth. Actually the Jews disagreed on which ones were scripture and which ones were not and that question was not settled until long, long after Jesus. By that time the church that Jesus established and which had the authority to canonize scripture made the decision.
@@emiljohann88 Actually the majority of Jews rejected what is included in the modern Hebrew cannon. Proverbs, Ecclesiastes & Song of Songs were rejected along with Ezekiel. Additionally the Dead Sea Scrolls showed us that NONE of the Jewish sects of Pharisees and Essenes accepted Esther as scripture. When Christ died on the cross the authity was stripped from the Jews and given to the church Christ established with his Apostles. By the second Christian century the writings of the early church all accepted the Deuterocannonical Books as Sacred Scripture.

@YAJUN YUAN
➨ JESUS gives authority of the Church to PETER (not Luther, not Calvin, not Ellen White or any other "reformer" and not Constantine either)
✦ MATT 16:13-19: Jesus gives keys of the Kingdom to PETER and builds his church upon PETER.
✦ ACTS 15:7-12: "After much debate had taken place, PETER got up and said to them, “My brothers, you are well aware that from early days God made his choice among you THAT THROUGH MY MOUTH THE GENTILES WOULD HEAR THE WORD OF THE GOSPEL AND BELIEVE."
✦ JOHN 21:15-19: Jesus tells PETER to "Feed my sheep"
The body of PETER now lies under the altar of St Peter's basilica. Evidence is even shown by unbiased secular media giants National Geographic, A&E & a book: "The Bones of St Peter"
➨The True Church is a TEACHING CHURCH:
(To TEACH is to impart knowledge that is not oresently known....not in writing)
✦JOHN 14:26-31
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall TEACH you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
✦JOHN 16:14:
"When the Spirit of truth comes He will guide you to all truth."
✦ Acts 8:26-40 King James Version (KJV)
30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.
Hey. Long time!?
The writings of the Early Church Fathers include many quotes from the Deutercanonical books including from Saints:
Pope Clement I (Wisdom: 12:12)
Irenaeus (Baruch: 4:36-5:9 & Daniel 13:56)
Polycarp (Tobit: 4:10, 12:9)
Cyprian (Wisdom: 3:4, 1 Macc. 2:52, Daniel 14:5)
Augustine (2 Macc. 12:43)
The fact that the Councils of Rome, Hippo & Carthage codified the current Bible that Catholics use renders any prior disagreement, dissenting voices or points made, moot.
The New Testament is replete with Old Testament quotes including from the Deutercanonical & possibly one of the most famous of all Bible quotes in St. Matthew 7:12
"All things therefore whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do you also to them. For this is the law and the prophets"
Directly lifted from Tobit 4:16
"See thou never do to another what thou wouldst hate to have done to thee by another."
The Catholic Church has all this covered.

We both know the score. Luther didn't like the selling of indulgences by the RCC. and he was correct.

The tradition of the Church, by reference to certain texts of Scripture, speaks of a cleansing fire:
As for certain lesser faults, we must believe that, before the Final Judgment, there is a purifying fire.

What dead ?
Why did they die?
Do you really think that they are worthy of godliness?

The Jews also rejected the New Testament. So protestants should reject the New Testament also according to that logic.
Well said! Thanks for watching.

Ronald,
Jews never admitted Apostles or Bishops to discuss Old Testament Canon decisions.
(1Tim. 3:15).

Bryan, Isn't it true that the first official decision by the Church (not an individual) discerning and fixing the canon, as currently exists, was in 382 at the Council of Rome presided over by Pope Damasus. This council agreed with the canon of St Athanasius (372).

Excellent point
I have a king James with all the books
Quick question, if I may. Why did we take out, or completely change Sirach 24:24-26?
The Douay Rheims has a completely different reading, than more recent, translations.
They are using Codex Sinaiticus for modern translation. That verse is absent in that manuscript so they deny its authenticity. However there is belief now that Codex Sinaiticus is a 13th century forgery.

@YAJUN YUAN false, we read Revelation at mass. Also, parts of Revelation are fulfilled at mass
@YAJUN YUAN at least you don't try to accuse us of worshipping Mother Mary. Bravo
Thats why we call it “faith” and we are called to “believe” not “know”.

@YAJUN YUAN
Yajun,
Thanks for your comments.
The bottom line: “We have no other assurance that the books of Moses, the four Gospels, and the other books are the true word of God,” wrote Augustine, “but by the canon of the Catholic Church.”
May God bless your discernment
@@bcalvert321
Ben,
You've been given the truth. Whether you accept it or not is not my problem.
God bless.
@@bcalvert321
Ben,
You Just have to take the protestant blindfold off so you may see the truth.
Here I will show some unavoidable truths you, evidently, refuse to see.
Let's begin with a typical protestant quote:
COLOSSIANS 2:8
MATHEW 7, 21-24
MATTHEW 16:15-19
15. He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16. Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
Human inspiration has not revealed the truth about Jesus to Peter; our heavenly Father, knowing Peter's soul, chose him to express it.
Jesus proceeds to give it His full authority, asserting that all must obey its expressed teachings:
MATTHEW 18:17
17. If he refuses to listen to them, tell the church. If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.
Why do you think we must listen to the one Church founded by Christ?
Because our Lord affirms in:
JOHN 16, 13
Why?
Because Jesus wants permanent UNITY:
JOHN 17:20-23
20. “I do not pray for these only, but also for those who believe in me through their word,
21. that they may all BE ONE; even as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22. The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may BE ONE even as WE ARE ONE,
23. I in them and thou in me, that they may become PERFECTLY ONE, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me.
Perfectly ONE, my friend. Therefore,
by choosing to be protestant, you have chosen to participate in a division that is not the will of God.
Not surprising, believing our Lord, St. Paul teaches:
1 CORINTHIANS 10:16-17
16. The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?
17. Because there is ONE BREAD, we who are many are ONE BODY, for we all partake of the ONE BREAD.
Jesus also confirms that only ONE Magisterium will speak for Him ALWAYS, in matters of faith and morals:
LUKE 10:16
16. “He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.
Thus St. Paul teaches:
1 TIMOTHY 3:15
15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is THE CHURCH of the living God, the PILLAR and FOUNDATION of THE TRUTH.
Finally, Peter's successors, the Popes, future leaders of His one true Church, will always be attacked by Satan but Jesus will pray for them, as He did for Peter, so the gates of hell will never prevail against His one Church.
LUKE 22:31-32
"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, but I HAVE PRAYED FOR YOU that your faith may not fail; and when you have turned again (after the denials), strengthen your brethren"
Such brethren not only existed in the first century, they will exist until the end of times. That's why Jesus said the mission is until the end of times and it will be accompanied with His constant pressence in His Church.
MATTHEW, 28:19-20
19. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20. and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, TO THE END OF THE AGE.”
May God bless your discernment.
➨ JESUS gives authority of the Church to PETER (not Luther, not Calvin, not Ellen White or any other "reformer" and not Constantine either)
✦ MATT 16:13-19: Jesus gives keys of the Kingdom to PETER and builds his church upon PETER.

30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

We got our Old Testament from the Jews and they don’t believe that the apocrypha was inspired. I go with them.
So, to understand correctly, you go with the people who rejected Jesus and killed him.....

...God called Abraham and built him into the Jewish nation and when the time is right the Messiah came who blessed all nations with the forgiveness of sins. The Old Testament came through the Jewish people,. The Old Testament didn’t come through the Catholic Church....
Your comment is ambiguous. I see now that you probably don't mean that the Messiah took flesh in the Old Testament.
RR-By the way the Old Testament is a book about Jesus (Luke 24:44-48).
DM-2 Things.
1. Although the Old Testament was written by the Jews. It is the Catholic Church which compiled the Old Testament and added it to the New Testament to produce the Bible.
2. Jesus is in the Old concealed and in the New revealed. That is Catholic Doctrine.
You didn't answer Catholic Truth's question. You side with the people who rejected Christ?
My own question is this. Jesus Christ gave the Catholic Church the authority to bind and earth and in heaven and loose on earth and in heaven. You don't believe that is enough authority to affirm that the Deuterocanonicals are inspired? Do you believe that Jesus is God?
Luther Touched something that shouldn’t have been touched 💯 What a grave mistake…
Paul.
Something tells christians are messed up given their huge and small differences. Christ prayed for unity. Did God reject his prayer?
No, it's more of that stubborn and prideful people refuse to listen to God.
That's why Jesus started one Church, the Catholic church, not thousands of churches which came centuries and centuries later and made by men.

Sorry that I did any bad towards you guys in anyway
They found 5 books of Tobit in the dead sea scrolls... sooooooo.......
When the 70 Jews translation biblical to Greek they not add those books I thinking
Greek at the request of Ptolemy II Philadelphus (285-247 BCE) by 70 Jewish scholars or, according to later tradition, 72: six scholars from each of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, who independently produced identical translations. Whatever share the Ptolemaic court may have had in the translation, it satisfied a need felt by the Jewish community (in whom the knowledge of Hebrew was waning among the demands of every-day life).[9]
Greek scriptures were in wide use by the time of Jesus and Paul of Tarsus (early Christianity) because most Christian proselytes, God-fearers, and other gentile sympathizers of Hellenistic Judaism could not read Hebrew.

The Church is the Institution of Christ . He said that there is only ONE Flock and ONE Shepherd. He said that "...not even the gates of hell will prevail over it...."
He means that hell will do everything to break and destroy it.
Not by those who say they have the truth but by those who have it.

These 39 books in the old testament were the only ones that were kept in the most holy place in the temple in Israel.
Actually the Jews disagreed on which ones were scripture and which ones were not and that question was not settled until long, long after Jesus. By that time the church that Jesus established and which had the authority to canonize scripture made the decision.
