    Amygdala is about him, about his past. The accident he was in cause him great pain for more than 8 years. He just had his shoulder surgery last November 2020.

    As a producer Suga/Yoongi/AgustD is ridiculously creative. Using Daechwita in a hard rap song? His co-producer thought it was crazy but says now he just always trusts him. Same with Haegum a 2 stringed instrument. But he doesn’t just do this the variety of sings he’s produced for others spans so much variety.
    As a rapper his flow is simply ridiculous. But the words and ideas he conveys just wow. Haegum is fascinating social commentary lyrics. He called everyone out! Amgydala taught me how to process trauma.
    Story wise he’s a helluva story teller writing all his MV story boards. In Daechwita he is both a corrupt greedy king craving power killing those against him. He strives to become the rebel grounded man of the people. He uses a colt Army revolver to kill the corrupt part of himself. In Haegum he’s again fighting himself. A powerful but corrupt cop. So much symbolism in these it’s truly ridiculous.

    The Amygdala is the small almond shaped part of the brain that stores trauma. The word Amygdala is taken from the Greek word for almond. Hence, Agust D is eating almonds in this video. The pills in his hand turn into almonds as if everything is turning into trauma that will be stuck going around and around in his brain’s amygdala forever. I also think the black room that he is in represents his amygdala. He is trapped in his head and can’t get out.
    My favorite explanation channel is Bookish Theories. I think she does an explanation video for Amygdala and also one for Haegeum. You can trust her explanations. She does a ton of research, looking up every word the artist says about the song, plus anything they claim is inspiration for the song. Also, her explanation for Daechwita is closer to yours than the DKDK TV version.

    At the very last concert of his D-Day tour Yoongi walked through the door that was in Amygdala and it was emotional for a lot of us watching. For me and a lot of other ARMY it shows that he managed to overcome everything his life has thrown at him and come out as a stronger person on the other side. This man is my bias for a reason because his lyrics speak to me on a personal level and his such's an amazing story teller through his music. I miss OT7 like crazy and I can't wait to see what new stories we'll hear from them in 2025.

    Suga is really very open with his struggles, he doesn’t hide it or gloss over it. I think you would really ,Ike his song The Last, as he is open about his struggles, something that isn’t common in K-pop. If you are going into the other rappers, for RM I would suggest Joke ( amazing track he said that he wrote it as a more stream of consciousness, and is basically just showcasing his talent), Do You, Wild Flower, and Seoul. For JHope, Arson, What If, Outro Ego, and Daydream are great ( his performance at Lollapalooza is legendary). And for the entire rap line Ugh, Ddaeng, and the cyphers (1-4) are incredible. Again to me they are always better live though so if you see the live in Busan clips watch them, you won’t be disappointed. Have fun they are really talented and have great lyrics that make you think.

    Amygdala is the prequel, the origin story of Agust D. The amygdala stores our past trauma and creates our defense mechanisms when we encounter what it recognizes as threats whether real or imagined.
    In Daechwita he's grown into the tyrannical king who is slain by the SUGA who is still anchored firmly to his roots.
    In Haegum Agust D is back, over time he grew into the corrupt police boss and SUGA must once again destroy him and what he stands for.
    On the final day of his D-Day concert he opens and walks through the closed door seen in Amygdala, telling us that he is finally free/healed.
    He has spoken before about how down he had to allow himself to get in order to really write truthfully about himself and what he went through. It wasn't an easy process for him but he was strong enough to handle it.

    In Kpop, every new release after debut is called a comeback. Even if their last album was released 3 months before, their new album is still called a comeback. If you are a new fan, your group’s first release after you become a fan is called your “first comeback.”

    The amygdala is part of the human brain that deals with how we respond to trauma, our fight or flight response, how we react emotionally to the situation we find ourselves. He’s calling out for this part of himself to save himself. He’s eating almonds in the video and the amygdala is shaped like an almond. Everything has meaning. His mom had heart problems because her pregnancy put strain on her body and so he was cared for by his grandmother while his mom recovered. He has suffered from anxiety, OCD, depression and has been open talking about his struggles which was unheard of in Korean society. He suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder after big hit by a car when he was secretly being a delivery boy prior to debut. He never told anyone because he wasn’t really supposed to be working. He was in a lot of pain throughout his early career with BTS which finally forced him to undergo shoulder surgery and is very likely the reason why he has to go through alternate military service.

    For all these 3 songs (as well as many of BTS' songs) you should watch explanation videos (by DKDKtv and by Bookish Theories, I recommend) to understand the Korean cultural references and the psychology references. BTS use many references and symbolisms in their lyrics and videos, from mythology, history, arts, science, etc and armys experts in each field are generous enough to inform and educate the rest of the fandom about whatever they spot.

      Depends how academic you want to get. There are no rules to being an Army. You can be an Army any way you like as long as you love the whole group and don't hurt anyone. I'm 69, spent a life and career in literary analysis, prefer to watch for music and dance, and figure out the rest on my own.

      Non-Korean speakers really need the explanation videos-- simply to get the literary and historical references. I never can understand reactors who don't care about meaning. And yes, you can do your own interpretation but it will be incredibly shallow without background. Sorry if I sound mean. But there are people who spend a lot of time laying out the references and Korean nuances for us and I find it arrogant to assume you understand something just be reflecting your own experience.

    The thing that always interested me about the two characters that Yoongi [yoon-gee not yoon-jee] plays in Daechwita vs Haegeum is the power differences.
    *DAECHWITA*
    In Daechwita, there's a corrupt king who abuses his power while ignoring his duty to serve the people. His unchecked power gives him a sense of arrogance where he feels he's untouchable as his cronies are paid to do his bidding without question even if it means harming others on his behalf. The regular citizen version of Yoongi taunts the king openly to incite his anger so that he can get the kings attention and get closer to him after being hauled off for execution.
    Except, before that, he conspired with the king's executioner and planned a betrayal before this happens. The executioner is meant to free him at the last moment, provide a pistol and allow Yoongi to kill the king so that the people could be free from his corruption. The king thought he was safe because he had power and no one would go against him.
    The regular citizen version of Yoongi showed him in his last moments alive that, because of his poor treatment, it was easy to turn his followers against him. The people who once bowed to him, its nodding along with Yoongi. The man who once killed the people who displeased the king is now providing Yoongi with the tool needed to kill him and free the people from his corruption and harm.
    *HAEGEUM*
    In Haegeum, there's a corrupt cop who abuses his power while ignoring his duty to serve the people. His unchecked power also gives him a sense of arrogance where he feels untouchable and his cronies are paid to do his bidding without questions even if it means harming others on his behalf. The crooked cop has a sketchy business that makes him money on the side where he employs criminals to do his dirty work. This sort of thing usually affects the wider community when you have dirty police officers with influence over others to conduct crimes in a neighbourhood. The regular citizen version of Yoongi in this one steals money that he has no interest in so that he can get the cop's attention and get closer to him.
    Except, before that, he conspired with one of the cop's minions. The minion was meant to call the cop to let him know his den was being raided and meanwhile Yoongi and his guys never touch him. He allows the call to happen and he leaves the area without anyone ever touching the minion even as he glances at him before leaving. This same minion is the one to pretend to drown Yoongi in the barrel of water at the end. The cop still thinks he's in control when he orders the minion to kill the thief but the minion allows the thief to shoot the cop before he steps aside. You see in the end that no one runs to try to save the cop. At this point, none of them are loyal to him despite him thinking his power would be his protection. Once again the regular citizen Yoongi is detroning the corrupt power structure who was once in authority.
    There's a constant theme of arrogance blinding the corrupt authority into thinking they can get away with how they behave because nobody is going to check them. It leaves them open to betrayal as they never see it coming.

    I hope you'll read this! Yoongi's musical & lyrical cinematic universe is just beautiful..🥺
    *Haegeum means 2 things*
    - a korean 2-string instrument w/c yoongi used in the production
    - liberation from prohibition
    *Some interpretations:*
    1. It's a commentary on the abuse of "freedom of speech/opinion" or freedom in general, society's discretion on good & evil, capitalism
    2. this is agust d in a diff timeline, sequel to daechwita, the thief agust d vs. the cop agust d
    *My takeaways:*
    1. "we must differentiate freedom from self-indulgence", a translator's note is that "differentiate freedom from lawlessness" is more accurate... yoongi's point is that if a person's kind of freedom is that w/c harm others, can you still call that freedom? it isn't freedom when you strip other people of their freedom...
    2. the blatant explicit MV considering he's an idol (k1lling, smoking, stealing)... idols are criticized for the smallest of things like for example seeing an idol smoking just like some other people do, he will be hated, insulted by the public and sometimes even punished by their label as if they committed a crime... they're like the fish in the water dispenser yoongi was watching (he & other celebrities is the fish), that depiction is worse than a fish in a fishbowl, coz they are not just simply being observed but also being stripped off the water that make them breathe...
    3. "Endless influx of information prohibits freedom of imagination/thoughts, and seeks conformity of thought"... nowadays people have been so comfortable being spoonfed w/ information w/o putting effort in fact checking and critical thinking that always triggers controversy and results to confusion and judgment... take for example when BTS announced they are taking a break from group activities, the headlines were saying they will be on hiatus or they are breaking up and people just blindly ate that news, if journos really watched the dinner and reading the subs they clearly said they are just resting frm grp activities and will come back.. so clearly those journos chose to write those headlines for their own gain just like the verse on haegeum says, "slaves to capitalism, money, hatred, prejudice etc."
    4. think of the red chopstick as the "capitalistic society"... that chopstick is a tool to get what we want whether what we want is to resist this kind of society or submit to it, in the end we are part of the society and it's what puts food in our mouth to survive... This is the harsh truth that we can't really escape from it, this is how society was built. But, there's a clear difference between functioning in a capitalistic society vs. actively participating in it and strip others of their freedom. So what should we do?
    5. Agust D is part of yoongi, his inner dark psyche that portrays his conflicting thoughts, and Agust D also splits into micro-characters (the rebel, the boss, the peasant, the king, the thief & the cop) that expresses each of his stance. The blonde agust d in 2016 used his anger (song: agust d) and greed (song: give it to me) as a weapon to rise from nothingness and people's naysaying. In 2020 (song: Daechwita) the blonde agust d who achieved his goals and success was consumed by his greed and became a tyrant king w/c was later k1lled by the rebel/boss agust d (one who's followed by people).. In 2023 (song: Haegeum), the scarred cop agust d seems to be on the side of justice and a man of power but actually the bad guy who pocketed that bag of money while the tangerine thief and boss on that turf was actually the agust d who's trying to catch the evil cop. The greedy agust d is always k1lled by the other agust d, but see how the king and the cop was still smiling and never runs away when the other agust d is abt to k1ll them, it's because they will always be back, it's a constant cycle of making sure that our greed is being keep in check, a constant contemplation... this is the answer to #4.

    I have seen reactors making an assumption in Amygdala so I would like to clarify. Suga did not get immediate treatment for a traumatic shoulder injury straight away. His family were poor due to heathcare costs from his mother's heart surgery and father's cancer. But his part time job broke his contractual agreement. He was desperate to keep this opportunity. He was in a system that was sending people home regularly. This was severe enough that many years later and even after an operation he was not able to be passed to do basic training in the army. He has been working as a welfare officer in the army and has only now been passed fit enough to do his basic training, though he will continue with his welfare role. Now think of all the intensive dance training he did. He needed pain killers do that. He is not implying addiction but he is implying dependence during his training period. He's had cortisone injections etc for years periodically etc since. Luckily his operation was successful. Viewed this way it makes it so admirable what he achieved and what it took. It also explains why he was often quiet and why he would often be so exhausted he would sit quietly whilst the rest were so active. It also explains the clips that say Suga and Hobi swap personalities when drunk. Of course getting rid of the constant background pain would make Suga livelier. Speaking as a person who has had life long pain, smiling and carrying on as usual is alot harder some days than others.

    • @MystiqueRisingSun
      @MystiqueRisingSun 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Partly incorrect.
      Basic training is typically a 6-week long training period for those who *can* still serve, but have special limitations. AFTER that basic training is when the men get their assignments for the rest of the time they serve (the other 16 1/2 months they're in).
      Due to Yoongi's injury - and, of course, the surgery - he went into public service instead of regular duties like the other six. He's not working for/with the Korean Army, he is working with the PUBLIC, hence why BigHit asked that if any fans saw him while fulfilling his duties, not to bother him "at work".
      Anyway, he wasn't "just cleared" for basic training. It was ALWAYS something he was going to have to go through at some point.
      Basic training is just that...*basic* training. Not "full" or "complete" training like the other six members are doing right now.

    • @1badlibrarian
      @1badlibrarian 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      He is a social service worker in Korea because of his shoulder. All social service workers receive three weeks basic training which is mostly classes such as first aid, their role in emergency, government and military structure, etc. He isn't considered well enough to actually join the army. He will return to his social services job.

    • @shipit4595
      @shipit4595 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      He was not just not cleared to do basic training, he was requires to do that from the beginning, we just didn't know the dates in which he would have done it. Also, it's a bit of a stretch to say that his behavior was mainly driving by the injury he had and the pain correlated to it, while that may influence some of his actions, it's also just his personality.

    • @darahughes1693
      @darahughes1693 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Slight correction and/or addition, his family wasn't/isn't poor. His parents (especially his mom) forbade him to be a musician. She threw all his equipment and music out at one point. He had to pay his own way through as a trainee and all his living expenses then because his mom refused to. That's why he worked the delivery job but, like you said, was hiding it and the injury because it broke his contract with Big Hit. Plus when the injury occurred he was afraid they'd let him go because he couldn't perform at optimum level. His brother was the only family member that encouraged him to continue with his passion (music) and Suga said as much when he gave a speech at his brother's wedding recently.

Korea is not as bad as the US but no matter how good your employment is 2 major health problems will cripple anybodies finances. Suga himself is candid about how poor he was and on several occasions. It is more credit to him. All of that is apart from other issues. BTS and even the members by themselves bring something to the table that not a ton of artists are able to do which is move someone so wholeheartedly and by that, I mean they are able to stir something within us listeners that almost feels overwhelming but in a good way. BTS as a whole and individually are able to connect with their audience on so many different levels and so deeply, whether it be lyrically, visually, sonically or all of the above because of the passion they have for their craft, their message and story they each strive to tell, and their love for ARMY. What is so special about the bond that BTS and ARMY share is that that passion and love is mutual. I'm sure you have heard this already but in case you haven't "BTS finds you when you need them most". It's a common saying among us ARMY and it turns out to be so true, so in saying that I hope BTS or even just a single member brings you joy and inspiration or even just some cool new tunes to listen to. I bet you will love RM and Jhope! in my opinion in general, suga is more raw in a more straight forward way, RM is really introspective and poetic (he plays with language and metaphor a lot) which i think you may enjoy since you like writing! And Jhope is really great at the flow of the lyrics and playing with his tone a lot, he has some really great storytelling especially in jack in the box and like they all do he also writes his own dreams into his music. I want to preface my comment with an excerpt from Scroobius Pip's 'Thou Shalt Always Kill': "Thou shalt remember that guns,
    bitches and bling were never part of the four elements and never will be."
    Which is kinda funny when you consider that Yoongi used to use the phrase: "I want a big house, big car and big rings" a lot. Listening to his whole discography gives a terrific insight into his growth both as an artist and as a human being. In the beginning, he just wanted his music to succeed, Yoongi's wish was for getting recognition from peers and colleagues, but not necessarily from the public. He wanted to secure the material wealth he perceived himself lacking.
    In my opinion the trilogy isn't really a trilogy, since it starts with 'Agust D' (the song) and 'Give It To Me'. A young, hungry, and very angry Yoongi goes off on the world. He is cocky, he is untoward, and hellbent on proving the world wrong. This version of himself is inspiration for the blond king in Daechwita.
    Haegum and Amygdala is the culmination, when he has had the time to grow from a 20 year old to 30, has had time to gain som introspection, and has re-evaluated what's actually is important, and has had time to distance himself from his trauma and heal.
    Namjoon did something similar earlier on, being very angry in 'Do You' and 'Joke' and then mellowing out with the whole 'Mono' mixtape. This is such a huge part, I think, why BTS is so beloved. The progression is so raw and human. Hate was a valuable tool to propel the artist forward when the odds were stacked against them, but when it had served it's purpose, it was time to take a softer, more forgiving approach, because it was the healthy thing to to. Being soft and loving does not equal being weak. Hobi and Jimin did it the opposite way, reminding the world that the sweetest and kindest human beings also have moments of intense pain and darkness within them.
    Yoongi has several times over commented on the how draining fame is and how he was for the longest time afraid to fall from the high pedestal he and his fellow members have been put upon. Lately, however, it seems that he has had a quiet acceptance of the situation. He knows BTS cannot be the top of the top for the rest of their lives, but instead of being terrified of a quick deceleration at the end of a massive fall, he thinks there will be a gentle slope downwards, but ARMYs will be there the whole way with the until the very end. For that's the true mark of any ARMY worth their salt; as long as our artists want to create, we will support them and listen. If they ever want to bow out, we're gonna send them off with a standing ovation. For the whole of BTS it isn't about reaching the top of the charts and breaking records anymore (though I'm sure they have several more to come), it is about the longevity regarding artists who create and perform until their time is up, and about the fanbase who will come to their concerts, even if they have to rely on walkers to do so.
    To quote Scroobious Pip once more: "Thou shalt not put musicians and
    recording artists on ridiculous pedestals no matter how great they are or were." And the BTS member echo that, among other things in their song 'Pied Piper'. Another allure of the group, even though they are inspiring people themselves, they are more keen on helping others via their art to be the best version of themselves, rather than basking in glory, fame, and hubris, that does no one any good. In a world where youngsters want nothing more to be famous, BTS, who have lived it more so than anyone else, implores people to reconsider. Fame is a violent beast that only devours and destroys, given the opportunity.
    But yeah, we're nearly at the end of my ramble. I'm so glad as fellow Linkin Park fan that you felt the lyric hit just as hard as I did. (Told you so!). I don't know how accurate my musings are, elder ARMYs can hopefully set me straight, but this is how I genuinely feel on the subject. I wish you a very pleasant hop down the rabbit hole. And sorry for the wall of text, but it was a long video, and I had lots of thoughs. Borahae! 🤭💜
    P.S. I suggest listening to Agust D 'People'. That was the song that cemented Yoongi's status as my bias. There is a terrfic live version of the song, where he performs on IU's talk show Palette, and I think he blew most of us away with suddenly singing better than he ever had done before. Check it out, if you have the time and inclination.

Enjoy the rollercoaster ride of emotions. I love the format of your reactions and totally enjoys your inputs. You need to watch the Amygdala live version from his D-Day concert. The ending is so much better than the MV and it's a relief to see him make it through that door. Agust D is now gone, and we can now enjoy Min Yoongi a.k.a. Amygdala is the part of the brain that processes trauma. This is why I fell for BTS. It is the depth of their music. How they have something for every mood. There are so many references imagery and emotion in their songs. So much beauty in their videos and dances. They give me a 365 experience.

  • @Belbecat
    @Belbecat 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    Amygdala is actually a word used in English, it's a part of the brain just google it. Haegeum refers to a Korean instrument as well as meaning "to lift a ban".
    You were also partially right in the music video meanings.
    Daechwita: Crazy King (old Yoongi) is killed by new Yoongi who rose up with the people. (Both has eye scar)
    Haegeum: That Yoongi became a new type of corrupt authority (has scar) an even newer Joker inspired Yoongi kills him after burning his money.
    Amygdala: Shows where this character with the eye scar came from - Yoongi created them in an effort to deal with his traumas.

  • @tracydowd4013
    @tracydowd4013 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    *Meanings for the song titles*
    *Daechwita* - is a genre of Korean traditional music consisting of military music played by wind and percussion instruments, generally performed while the ARMY is marching or as a static performance usually when the King is arriving. (Suga aka Agust D meant the BTS ARMY to be implied.)
    *Haegeum* - has two meanings. The first, it's a traditional Korean string instrument, resembling a vertical fiddle with two strings, usually played at Royal Court. Also, it means to lift a ban, or release what is forbidden.
    *Amygdala* - is an almond shaped part of our brain which is commonly thought to form the core of a neural system for processing fearful and threatening stimuli, including detection of threat and activation of our fight or flight response. The amygdala helps to store memories of events and emotions so that an individual may be able to recognize similar events in the future.
    *My own thoughts on Agust D's Triology:*
    Yoon-gi has shared his mental health issues with us since the beginning, and he stated how some of his roughest times were in the early days, like from 2014 to 2016, how he developed social anxiety at age 18, he was dealing with depression and OCD. BTS had hate coming at them from all angles, and it took a toll on them in the early years. So hearing all the other things he was dealing with as well, just puts things into perspective. He's such a strong person. In the making video, he said, *"the scars we create are of our own making"* So the best way for him to represent that was the way that he did with the scar on his face. And the medicine he took was for his condition. He talked about how he saw a psychiatrist and his parents went with him, and they said they didn't know who he was anymore. This was in "The Last" from his first mixtape Agust D.
    He said how could anyone know him when he doesn't know himself, so that phrase *"I don't know your name"* made sense to me. Looking back at repressed memories. Thankfully he got through all of it, and now is healed to a certain degree. I see the rain as a shift., He also talked about "What doesn't kill you make you stronger", and he is now "blooming like a lotus flower"* The lotus flower is very resilient, and can grow in mud and water, like on a lake or pond. So I see the rain as cleansing, and healing.
    He also said in the behind the scenes on Daechwita, that the mad King was the Agust D from his first Mixtape in 2016, and the peasant was from his 2020 mixtape D-2. You can see the scar is very raw in that video on both of them, maybe slightly less for the 2020 Agust D. In Haegeum, I interpret it as Agust D from 2020 is the Police detective/corrupt Boss, with the partially healed scar, and the Agust D that kills, and steals the money with no scar is D-Day Agust D. The one that is mostly healed and is talking about freedom. (Do we ever completely heal from our scars?) In an interview with IU, and in the D-Day film, he talks about how he was very angry and now he has forgiven the haters and is living in the present. So his music moving forward may not have the angry vibe that we have seen in the past. But he is definitely not done yet.
    The finale to the story is at the last show of his sold out world tour he did before enlisting in the military for his mandatory service. The last concert was in Seoul, Korea, and at the very end, the door appeared that is in this video, and he was finally able to walk through it. but before he did that, he had a very emotional concert, breaking down in tears multiple times, and ARMY's would sing the parts he was unable to, but before walking through the door, he looked out at the crowd, with his fans, family, peers, and BTS bros (RM, JIN, J-HOPE) in the audience, and you see his face, his eyes, filled with love and happiness. I truly believe that he is healed, as much as anyone can be from their emotional scars. It really makes me happy that he was able to walk through that door at the end.
    The message to me is that his album and world tour concert were very healing for him. and he trusted us to take us on that journey with him. SUGA aka AGUST D aka Min, Yoon-gi is an amazing artist, and I can't wait to see what he brings after he is discharged from service.
    If you want to see that concert, AGUST D D-Day concert film is in theaters around the globe on April 10 & 13, 2024. You can still get tickets. It's worth for the IMAX experience. I'll post a preview, and the link for tickets below.

    Yoongi’s discography to me is like a vessel to self discovery. He does not shy away to speak personal struggles or controversial things. Some say he is savage, but to me he is just true to himself, no sugar-coating difficulties or what not. Yoongi became my ultimate bias coz i can relate to him more, i too struggled alot growing up, so his song The Last really spoke to me. His song First Love and Dear My Friend always bring me to tears. even if you don’t know the lyrics, you can clearly hear his emotion in the way he raps. So Far Away and Snooze which in my opinion should be listened to together coz there’s a particular connection with each other, are masterpieces on their own. Honsool, is one that i think a lot can relate to..his mixtapes and albums are Yoongi’s journey.
    i hope you’ll be able to check out these songs esp The Last, First Love and Snooze. I would still love if you listen to his mixtapes and album but I know it can be a lot. BTS has a wide array of music that it can feel overwhelming. plus there’s a lot of gems in their B-sides. hope you’re having a great time on your journey. 💜

    We do NOT care if you pause or go back! We love when anyone tries to understand or rewatch because they enjoy what is going on. We have all seen the videos a hundred times so pause as much as you want and discuss or re-read lyrics or go back to hear the flow changes, whatever. But you don't need to edit it out... We want to watch that reaction. Your excitement from seeing all the lyrics with substance and unique instruments used... very fun to watch. We don't mind long videos. These songs are connected because he told us they were. He wrote them with the three in mind. To me, the first two are about him having to always deal with his own struggle with feeling that greed and wanting to be the best and have it all, but also wanting to stay grounded and produce music because of the art and not the money. Amygdala is the part of the brain responsible for rational thought and processing trauma to help you establish ways to protect yourself in the future. He doesn't make it out of the door in the video, but if you ever get to watch the DDAY concert, he makes it out on the last day of the final concert! In fact, coming up... check out your local theater listings at (www.sugathemovie.com) they are actually playing the final concert in theaters for two days April 10th and April 13th! Go see it!!! The whole things is fire! He essentially was trying to take the personas of Suga and Agust D and destroy them so that all that is left is Min Yoongi. And down to the details of set list, deconstructing the stage, etc, it is so cohesive and satisfying. Yeah, I agree, it is so special when you find musicians that are full of so much substance and BTS is absolutely crazy good. Again, I was not someone who would have ever imagined being a fan of anything like this, but when you give them a chance, you realize they are not at all what our pre-conceived notions were. And the more you learn about them, how genuine, sincere, authentic they are, just can't be ignored and you appreciate them even more. Enjoyed your reaction thoroughly. Your music sounds great too. Love the connections you make with them when it comes to writing process and lyrics. Enjoying the journey is what is most important. :) Also... doolset for lyrics is the best... it is a Wordpress site, so it might look odd, but they get the lyrics explained for almost everything beautifully including all possible meanings of what could be intended.

    Did you do Born Singer? th-cam.com/video/Z5WLRWMYzEU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dVu7-l4blSgZ1naQ They did this song in 2013 shortly after debut, on the beat of JCole's Born Singer. Gives a good insight into their mindset, which really never changed and one of the several ways they mix rap and vocals. Shortly after JCole met JHope, who was headlining Lollapalooza in Chicago in 2022, he gave them permission to include the song on their Anthology album.
    I'd also recommend Ugh and/or Ddaeng (two rapline only songs)
    Ugh: th-cam.com/video/ZhfNSdpxjGw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=vsYDmpHB0Avz_uLM
    Ddaeng: th-cam.com/video/VBy319Xnfzo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bTlXdqvfj7XtX4h5
    but follow either up with the DKDKTV explanation because there are like 8 uses for the word Ddaeng and RM knows how to use them. Then, for fun... check out the vocal line doing Ddaeng! Jin rapping is always fun then JK doing RM's part...🔥. th-cam.com/video/tQRrc3PEITc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-ZKVqvdpgr8vdDsd

    Meanings for the song titles:

    Loved watching you react. I cry every time on Amygdala. You definitely, should go see Suga's concert in theaters April 10th and 13th. I saw in one of Suga's interviews that the scar, represents what we do to our selves when not able to deal with the pain, trauma, sometimes you don't even realize you have. How trauma changes you, your personality, a lot of who you are. How at some point you need to work through all the emotions. Have a good day.

    @TEEJ-9, so doing Agust D trilogy , Daechwita is is South Korean military music that was only played when the South Korean Army is marching or when the king is walking amongst the commoners was to announce him or also when foreign dignitaries came to visit the palace. That is not a temple that is a South Korean Josen dynasty it is a famous place Gyeongbonguk Palace where many K dramas and music videos and cultural ceremonies are held it is also a place were many tourist come to where the traditional Hanbok clothing. These three music videos are of how Agust D a.k.a. suga of BTS was created. This is a sequence of how this started as his solo project in 2016 his first mixtape titled Agust D that was uploaded for free on SoundCloud, Second mixtape D-2 was also part of Agust D’s Journey. Then his first physical album called D-DAY where the song Haegeum is also part Of the story line of Agust D. Amygdala is an almond shape part of the brain that is part of the fight or flight response where it holds memories both good and bad and definitely is part of the anxiety that Agust D started with. There are an explanation videos for all three of the songs they can be both DKDK TV channel or bookish theories depending on what you are more interested in the full cultural reference or the psychological meaning behind each song both channels are exceptional and will give you much insight about this but definitely I would check the explanation videos by these two channels to get a better understanding on exactly what these three music videos represent & meaning.
    Suga of BTS is a thinker he is a person who is very profound when it comes to his music you will see a reality of what social issues that he touches on as well as personal subjects and situation that he himself has gone through! Also did you see in Daechwita two BT’s members? Jin & JungKook had a cameo. Good luck on your continuous journey with BTS.👍🙏🏼💜BoraHae

    Songs like Daechwita are straight bangers, his savage side shines. His emotional and vulnerable songs are also a great part of his discography, damn this man made me cry too often!
    DKDKTV was good for the historical explanation, but it was only one layer of the concept. I advise you to check Bookish theories for the trilogy (and for a lot of BTS songs), she goes further with the psychological layers.

  • @imajinallthepurple
    @imajinallthepurple 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

    DKDKTV usually has some great explanation videos but I think they dropped the ball on Daechwita. The explanation video by Bookish Theories is much more in line with Yoongi's own statements. While she also explains the cultural references she takes a much more psychological approach to the lyrics and given what we know now after the release of Amygdala, that approach now makes even more sense. I highly recommend it and I definitely recommend it over the one from DKDKTV any time. 🤷
    (Fun fact: The gun model he uses in Daechwita is called an Army(!) colt. The level of detail is astounding. And of course the lejindary scene of Jin and JK fighting in the market place will never not be funny. 🤣)

    A LOT of Yoongi's music is about him dealing with his desire for fame / recognition / trophies / money. He often refers to these things as chains around his neck. My analysis of the three videos together is that we see Yoongi in Amydala stuck inside of his own mind, reliving these horrible moments in his life. The way that he chooses to deal with these result in the self-inflicted scar. Then (again, this is just my theory), the events of Daechwita and Haegeum happen inside of that Yoongi's head. They are battles he's fighting in his mind. In Daechwita, the mad king has that same red, open scar. His sin is a need for fame and power. That's young, thirsty Yoongi who wanted recognition for his music from his peers and fans.
    The rebel Yoongi has the same scar, but it is closing up - not as fresh. He kills the mad king, and because of that, he gets a little better, metaphorically killing off that part of himself. Then that rebel Yoongi turns into the corrupt police officer in Haegeum. The scar is still there, but it's much older now. He's no longer fame-hungry - in fact, he's hiding the fact that he's in charge of the gang. This time his sin is greed. This is the Yoongi who has made it and is raking in tons of money, but he fears it's at the cost of his integrity.
    The thief Yoongi steals the police officer's money and kills him. Thief Yoongi has no scar. He's almost healed. But then in the last Joker car scene, we see that the police have dropped him off, implying he's taken control of the police officer's corrupt cronies in the police department. He has control of the restaurant and the gang, which had previously been run by the police officer. He even has the police officer's coat. This implies that the cycle isn't over and will eventually repeat again.

    The word haegeum has multiple meanings. The two used in this song are (1) a traditional Korean instrument (a two-stringed vertical fiddle) that can be seen/heard prominently in the first 15 seconds of the clip above; and (2) the lifting of a ban/prohibition. Also, watch Suchwita ep 27 with Jang Yi-Jeong (El Capitxn) You will learn little nuggets of information about Daechwita.

    Jhope released a new soundtrack album called Hope on the street vol 1. You can do a reaction to it next if you are into more oldschool sounding hiphop. All the bts rappers sound different and do different genres within the genre.
    The Hope album also features a couple of khiphop ogs and also Nile Rogers.
    I also hope you check out his street dancing documentary if you are into street dance. It's on prime video and it's called Hope on the Street.
    The album and the documentary go together, he dances to every single song on the album in the documentary.
    Each song in the album is made for a specific style of street dancing, like popping, locking, house etc.

    I think the Agust D trilogy is a good sample of the themes that he likes to tackle: aggressive diss tracks, incisive social commentary, honest personal stories. You'll find other songs with these themes if you want to explore his discography further.
    The rapline are the main songwriters of BTS and all of them are contemplative and reflective in their lyrics, but in different ways. You'll see when you listen to RM's and J-hope's songs.
    I read somewhere that the more personal your lyrics is, the more universal it is.

    Amygdala is him explaining where his issue's came from his own truma and what he mentions the accident is real and it was far far worse and he was afraid to be honest about it as he though the company wouldn't let him debut with BTS and he'd have to leave. That damage to his shoulder was not treated properly because he lied saying he'd fallen down stairs. Over time it got worse an worse to the point he could hold his mic in that hand. He did come clean about it and finally had the creative surgery and was out of commission for months and months recovering. Both his Father and Mother are doing fine now they both recovered.

    Just wanna point out how he used the same chopsticks he killed with to feed himself in the end... it's either representing the cycle of corruption is continuing itself and he cannot outrun it, or he wants haegeum (lifting a ban, free from the system) but it's a prison, a cycle and we're all participants because we need this system to survive, to feed and we end up benefitting from the same system that we fought against, or whether him killing the corrupt officer to fight for freedom or he's just mere feeding his self-indulgent like the lyrics said.
    Ughhh... just so so much to think about... I love it!

    I love your thoughts at the beginning! Their a good introduction to what knowledge you have going in and how you relate the music and concepts. Also, I say you react to whatever combination of music in whatever amount you feel like. Watchers will guide you on what they believe is a good order and you can follow their suggestions if you want or not. No stress! Doing it in a way that brings you joy/excitement/intrigue will show in the video.
    And we all react with such awe many of our mouths hang open too lmao! And I really enjoyed hearing your music at 17:41 and how you relate to the music style AgustD/Suga has.
    I've been ARMY for over 6 years and you are on point about connecting with BTS on a spiritual level. Their music diversity connects to so many parts of who I was, am and want to be and their dedication, struggles, honesty, and what they stand for speaks to me and supports that we are not alone.
    I love that you mentioned your deep connection with Linkin Park, I felt similar emotions to Breaking Benjamin (of course in a different respect then with BTS, being in a different stage of my life, different reasons, ect). For so many years Breaking Benjamin spoke to my soul and I had other deep connections with similar artists, Linkin Park included.

    Really enjoy your reaction! (Very relatable when you mentioned how you can connect to Linkin Park at a spiritual level. I believe it’s the same for many ARMYs and BTS). Since you are also a songwriter, you might wanna try listening to Snooze (by SUGA feat. Woo Sung and Ryuichi Sakamoto). SUGA wrote this song as a comfort to his juniors in the industry who are also thriving. And you might wanna try listening to Ddaeng by the Rap line (RM, SUGA, j-hope) since it included a very unique sound (some traditional instrument) and the lyrics is 🔥 (Also highly recommend to watch the explanation (by DKDKTV) bc they include (a very genius) word play in the song).
    Keep going! Love how you genuinely react to the songs. Enjoy your journey discovering BTS 😊

    Just home from somewhere nothing to do with the holidays. I see many have already commented since I scroll through comments before watching any reaction. I think it’s been all said. Someone mentioned an explanation for the other 2. I saw that explanation and she covers what’s seen in the video and some context, but it’s too bad DKDKTV hasn’t done an explanation video for those since those last 2 came out on his D-Day album. Basically, the 3rd can be seen also as a prequel to the other 2. And I agree Suga is underrated as an actor here. 1 thing I didn’t see is I loved watching the behind the scenes of him learning just the sword dance part where it shows him learning it and he was doing this n between regular BTS choreography practices. The 6 people behind Suga is a shout out to the other BTS members in 2 of the MV. With Suga (Agust-D) it takes a few watches to even catch everything and still need an explanation 😂 ISuga has always been my bias though I love all of them so all of the rest bias wreck me and OT7! ARMY doesn’t mind watching long videos and it’s good that you watched all 3 in the correct order too! Thanks Teej! Borahae 💜

    I'm so happy to see this up, I sat down to eat and it said uploaded 4 mins ago I was like "woo let's go!"
    I'm taking a lil pause after daechwita to write this and I may write more comments further in, but I have adhd so if I wait till the end I'll forget half of what I was gonna say lol.
    When you mentioned "I knew I was gonna vibe with this guy!" I think I know what you mean, kinda like love at first sight but... friends at first sight? Like you see someone and you immediately think "this person is cool. If we hung out we would get along"
    I thought that the first time I watched one of your videos lol. I thought "you seem pretty chill, and I can't wait for you to see Suga in action." 😂
    The word Daechwita means marching song, I took it as "this is the song for when ARMY goes to war" or "can you hear that? ARMYs coming for you"

      You need to see the video of Jungkook listening to Linkin Park and going nuts. Pure joy for me. I've been into Linkin Park since One Step Closer came out (yeah I'm a millennial 😅) and they were my everything for so long. I wish I got to see them live more than once.
      Edit: remember the instrumental in Nobody's Listening? I think that was the first time I heard that sort of thing mixed with rap or rock.
      Also, Amygdala has a rock vibe and it makes me happy.

    • @TheHellthirteen
      @TheHellthirteen 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Alright last comment: Haegeum is both an instrument used in the song and a word for liberation or the lifting of a ban. I think part of this liberation is him showing himself smoking, which he hasn't been allowed to do before, it seems, although he has alluded to it. Surely he is big enough now to unapologetically be himself, regardless of any ARMY'S personal feelings about it. There has been outrage I'm the past whenever a member has been accused of it after being spotted with aomething that looks like a vape or been photographed looking like they're smoking but nobody knows if it's real or edited.
      The Amygdala is the part of the brain that governs fear and emotions, as well as your motivation. It's a blessing and a curse. It translates to almond because it's almond shaped, and Yoongi eats almonds in the video as well as what I think are antidepressants but they might be painkillers. I can't remember if they turn into almonds so he's not seen to be popping pills in a video or if he's eating both.
      The events he mentions in the song are true, and sources of fear and pain for him. He was moonlighting as a delivery guy when he had an accident and destroyed his shoulder, and didn't think he could tell anyone because he thought he'd lose his place in BTS. He only got surgery to repair it a couple of years ago, and was absent for a while so it could heal. In the early days, if someone couldn't be there, Jungkook would usually take their part, but this time they just let his part play on the backing track, sometimes using a stand in like a snowman prop or a hologram to have his presence there but basically sending the message that none of them are replaceable.
      The secondhand joy is real.
      I still haven't figured out the scarface yoongi vs non scarface yoongi, just that Amygdala is the origin of the scar. In daechwita scarboy shoots the no scar version, but in haegeum its the other way around.
      As Jin once said, "I don't have think."
