Good day The Good ride. I want to express my respect from Russians local (Siberian) riders to you, for all the work that you have done for riders. All your materials are very useful and helpful when choosing the right equipment. All purchased equipment was guided by your materials and reviews, and everything we bought for snowboarding met our expectations. Keep going. Thank you so much!
Such a clear and on point review! Kudos bro. I was thinking of buying the Frontier, and your review convinced me to try it out soon! I have a pretty hardcore full camber Nitro board and a full feckin’ banana rocker Burton. Love both of them for different slope conditions. The Nitro is so fast and secured, but any mistake is punished (and damn hard too, I must add). And I think I’ve grown over the rocker board. It is so easy to ride, certainly when taking things easy and playful. But it’s just too gloopy washy on anything harder than fresh pow. I always thought a mix of both my boards would be the perfect fit for me. I’m so stoked to try it out.
I was just second guessing if I was gonna buy the frontier but you got me. Jones sized me at 159cm (175lb) tho and I’m worried it’s gonna feel like a boat. Never been higher than 157
What is your boot size and height? I need all three to help you size it. Also what is the make, model and size of the board you ride now? If you want to do this way more in depth hit me up here. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
I'm 160 lbs on a 159 Frontier and have no issue with that length. Check your boot size. If it with with the 159, I highly recommend this deck. I love this board in all but hard pack.
Thanks, this was very helpful. I was looking at the Frontier vs stratos. I love all mountain boards but needed something that can float on powder better than my 157 cm never summer proto ultra. Think I'm going with the Frontier for personal preference reasons and price. I like riding switch and prefer a flexible board for tight tree riding. With a rocked back stance sounds like the Frontier will get the job done. (5'11, boot 10.5, 180 lbs)
Thanks. Well the Proto Ultra is a twin with a centered stance and not ideal in pow if you like to set it back. The 158w or 162 Frontier will do better switch for sure but give more directional float than what you have. If you like to ride switch in pow the Jones Mind Expander Twin 162 will be better. If you want to get into it more and do this right, hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
I just picked up a frontier. Im 6’3” about 240 lbs and size 13 boots. I got the 167W. Not sure if I got a good size but I’m a hard charger more free ride type so I thought long would be more stable for me.
Many thanks! Yeah that is a great fit for your specs and you should have no issues riding that if you are an intermediate or above. It's a pretty forgiving board.
love the reviews. just hard to choose which board and size would fit me best. no park, just resorts, ground tricks, and do side small jumps. im 5'11 , 195lb. looking at the frontier and the mt twin. which board and size would better fit for me? thanks in advanced

I would go Mtn twin if you ride switch more and want a more playful ride.

I’m stuck between this and a capita Mercury, which I recently demo’d. Loved the Mercury but wish it turned a little easier. Would you say the Frontier turns more easily (without sacrificing stability at speed)?
Depends on how you size it to your specs but if sized correctly yes. I like this a lot better in powder but I like the Mercury for switch/centered riding and buttering better.
Need some help not sure what to do. I bought the 2021 version of stratos 159. I do a lot of craving and free riding. Don’t do jumps. Just little pops on the sides of the runs. And don’t ride switch unless I’m needed to. But I’m 200 pounds now and 6’1. Boot size is a 12. Feel like I have a lot of overhand with the 159. Not sure if I want the Frontier or the stratos. I mainly ride machine groomed. But every other year. I get into some deep powder. Just not sure if I out grow the 159 and NEED to upgrade into a bigger size or can I get away with the 159. I don’t have a problem with the stratos but hate to spend all the money on an another one if I don’t need to. Or is that to much overhang and I need a new board. Thank you so much. Let me know what you think.
The 159 is way too narrow for you and that much overhang could get you injured. You would need the 161w or 164w but not sure this is right for ya. Frontier will be better for your weight/have less chatter. Hit me up here to get into more detail and do this right. lshop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Love the detailed reviews! What do you think would be a better complement to the jones mind expander for a two-board quiver, the frontier or the mountain twin? The ME would be the powder board. While it carves well, it’s a little loose feeling when flat-basing it at speed. The second board would be more of a daily for groomers and carving. Also moguls and easier tree runs, so maneuverability and quick turns are important. Nothing crazy steep, no park and only occasional brief switch riding. Riding out west. I think I’d like either, but wondering which you thought would be a better pairing. Thanks!
Frontier sounds awesome. I'm thinking about making this the 2nd board in my quiver. I ride on the east coast. Low intermediate. I dont like catchy feeling boards. Not interested in park only some sidehits and small jumps. I have a libtech Cold brew 2024 which i love. Would this be a lateral move or a good addition?
These are two pretty similar boards in shape/riding style but have a very different feel underfoot. The Frontier has camber between the feet vs. rocker that feels more stable/less auto spinny. It doesn't have as much grip but it's close so you might like it. Hit me here if you want to get better help on if this is the right board for you. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Thanks for a great comparison review again! I was thinking how would u put your review on the Burton Instigator a few years back, along side with the Frontier? I have been leaning for the past 3 seasons on a twin averaging 7 days per season in a ski resort, (wish i could have longer holidays). Really interest in these 2 boards as I now know i'm not a park guy~
Thanks! Night and day difference. The Frontier is not a beginner/intermediate board and has been incorrectly marketed that way. People say that but it's got a stiff flex, the same camber profile as the Flagship and just comes in a non-tapered package. It is forgiving though and most Jones boards are. That is what gives them such a wide appeal. So if you are considering both go Frontier if it fits your specs. If you want to get into it more hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Love these videos man, so tough to narrow them down when u cant test them all before buying. One question, love and leaning towards the frontier but curious is the switch ride okay? Im not doing switch 50% of the time but enough to consider it when buying new. Thanks man
Would this be too similar to the shadowban? I’m looking for something directional that’s easy to turn. Dampness is very important to me. Currently have a shadowban, standard uninc, dicey. Any recs?
There is a lot of overlap. You basically have two great all mtn boards and one very fun park to mtn freestyle ride. The Standard Uninc and Shadowban have a lot of overlap already and I think you should probably not get another all mtn board but instead get something more directional and set back like the PYL Uninc or Jones Flagship but really hard to say knowing nothing about ya. If you want to get into it more and do this right, hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Aviator has a lot more camber, less early rise and a lot more pop. More spoon tech so you feel it a bit more on harder snow. It's a little less directional these days vs. the frontier as well. I like the frontier a little better for pow.
Hi, I currently ride a rider choice 154.5 and love it. I want to get mountain twin and wondering what size would work better for me 153w or 156w or 157. I mostly ride on east coast, resort and spend some time park mostly on jumps.
Neither. Both are not the right board for your specs. You want Frontier 159 and possibly the 162 depending on how you ride. Or Jones Mtn Twin 157 or 160. If you want to do this right hit me up here. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/ there are lots of things I need to learn about you to actually help.
@@thegoodridesnow Thanks! I used to ride k2 Raygun 156 which was my first board felt it was too long. Since I switched to Rider choice 154 I felt more comfortable. I think I will go with frontier 159 since I ride mostly east coast and we don’t get ton of powder needing a longer board. Really enjoy ur detailed explanations. Very helpful. Thanks again!
Hey. Loving the content. Think I have decided on the frontier. Currently ride a 155 lib tech Jamie Lynn blonde. Wonder ing the right size of frontier. . 5’11 185 lb and size 10 boot all mountain riding cheers
Thanks. I think the 162 is best for your specs but you could ride the 159 if you want maneuverability that is more comparable to the Lynn you have or even 158w if you want more stability/better carving but it will be a little slower to initiate a turn vs. the other two boards.
164w would be a good fit but it all comes down to personal preference and what you are used to now. If you want a lot more board for speed/float you can go 167w or 161w if you want a lot of control. Hit me up here if you want to get into it more. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
I just had a 9 year hiatus (Life happens). Haha. Before that hiatus I rode for 15 years. Would the frontier be okay to jump back into things? Also, was looking at size 156. 5’8, 158lbs, and boot size of 10US. Thanks in advance.
Sorry I mist this! Yeah it would be a great board to get back into is and the 156 or 159 could work depending on how you like to ride, boots, bindings and a few other factors. Hit me up here if you want to make sure. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Love your review videos! I'm 6' ft and 165 lbs and have been riding a 158w Capita Mercury. It's been great but I kind of want a more advanced board. Really considering the Jones Frontier now. Would it be an upgrade or a parallel move? I ride in CO but also taking a trip to Japan this season. Thanks!
Thanks! The Frontier is a good bit more directional/has better float, is stiffer, has more camber/carves harder and more grip. I wouldn't say it's more advanced as both boards are good for advanced riders. It's just got less of a mountain freestyle thing going for it than the Mercury. if you want to do this right hit me up here so I can help properly. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Two pretty different boards. Mind Expander has a lot of taper vs. none with the Frontier. Mind Expander has a lot more spoon in the nose, much more overall nose and much more taper. It rides very set back compared to the frontier and is very turny/surfy. The Frontier is better switch, rides more centered and has only a slightly softer flex.
@thegoodridesnow many thanks. Not bought a new board for quite a few years, so the new tapered, volume shifted, hybrid profiles etc are all new and confusing. Need to try and ride some to compare to my OLD k2 Raygun. Love you sensible, no bullshit or unnecessary hype reviews - keep up the brilliant work 👍👏👏👏
I’m stuck between getting the frontier and the stratos. I’m 6’2 240lbs size 11 boot. I mainly ride groomers, trees, side hits, and small / mid jumps. I like feeling stable at speeds with a catch free feeling. Which board would you recommend? And what size? I appreciate your time
I would consider the 164 wide Frontier. The Stratos is not good with heavier riders and it isn't damp in uneven snow. If you want to get into it more, hit me up here. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Hey I am between the MT. & the frontier. mostly ride groomers, trees, pow some deep pow, no park at all. was gonna get the flagship but hard to swallow that price. kidna leaning towards the frontier as a one board wonder? is the flagship that much better of a board? worth the extra $$?
They are more different. The Frontier has a more turny sidecut and a less directional shape with no taper. It doesn't feel as washy in the tail on groomers and rides switch a lot better. The Flagship has a more straight line friendly sidecut and a lot of extra set back on board along with taper so it floats a lot easier in pow.
Will I be able to use the union flight pro mount with the frontier or is it better to switch to force 2024? I'm 65 kg (143lb) and progressive rider who wants to build a good snowboarding technique.
Force will be better with the Frontier. One thing to remember is to include your boot size when referencing specs. Its very important to help with sizing. Also it's good to mention the size of the board.
I'd probably go 167w. That's a good fit for you. 164w could work too if you want more control and an easier turner at the expense of speed and float. If you want to get into it more hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
yes. thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/ride-berzerker-2012-2024-snowboard-review here is my take. I prefer the Jones Frontier better but it's all about personal preference. If you want a super turny board then the Berzerker might work but it can feel hooky if you try to straight.
@thegoodridesnow I base it off who designed the berzerker and his riding preference, ive seen it mentioned a lot of how the bezerker is great for "turning" to be honest
Would you guys say that the Stratos is significantly stiffer and/or harder to ride than the Frontier? I'm stuck between the two as an intermediate rider who goes fast but isn't all-out bombing, and while I'm leaning towards Stratos, it could end up being too much board for me.
Neither would be too much board for you. Both are pretty forgiving. The Frontier is a little more forgiving but that isn't the issue. The problem with the Stratos is the chatter and how poorly it does in uneven snow. Go to 3:20 to learn more. That could be a deal breaker for you if you are riding on Saturday and Sunday. If you want to get into this in more detail hit me up here so I can help properly. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Thanks this was a great video. I put one amazing day on my Frontier that I wouldn’t have bought without your help. Also I do enjoy base gliding very fast but don’t want to die. Is it safe.. what would be the safest board for that? I also just bought the bazerker 2023 from Ride for hike to terrain and tree runs. Was this a good buy ?
Thanks and great to hear your take. Not sure based on the info I have. If you want a board that is more turny this for sure is. Check my review and also hit me up here if you want to get into detail and find out for sure. thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/jones-storm-chaser-2016-2024-snowboard-review/
Good day! I am into new binding/snowboard market. I was leaning toward union force XL size (or maybe L). Will the binding toe strap fit over the toe cap? I am 195cm (6' 4") and 100kg (220lbs). I wear Burton Ruler size 14. I consider myself intermediate rider. I love riding and carving on groomers and in pow with occasional jumps on the sides and in park. Which board would suit me better? Frontier 164W or Mountain Twin 165W? Also, would the overhang be too big with those boards?
Yeah the Force XL should be your best option. Make sure you pull out the heel loop and gas pedal all the way. Hopefully you got reduced footprint boots as that's critical for someone your size. Regarding boards neither will work well for 14s. You will have toe/heel drag with both. You need to look for something else that is considerably wider like the Weston Ridgeline 166w or One of Never Summer's Drag Free (DF) sizes, or get the Ride Superpig or Warpig XL. Hit me up here if you want to get more detailed advice. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
@@thegoodridesnow thank you for the quick reply!! Much appreciated Damn, it looks like I bought wrong pair of boots. My mondo is 29.5 so I guess I need boots size US 11.5-12, and also that means the binding should be Union Force L. Am I right?
Very hard to help based on the limited info given. Really not sure if either work for you. I'd say Mtn Twin is better for intermediates but hit me up here if you want to do this properly. I need to know a lot more about you to actually help. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
I'm planning on getting Frontier 2023 Split in 159. They're basically the same except the spoon tech, in Split version it's completely flat. Wondering if that's something I'd miss or it's arbitrary for such use case. Do you think it's a good choice as a all rouder for a beginner?
In my opinion, you need all the grip you can while on touring mode, especially at side steeps, that's why the split version is flat. I don't think you'll miss it, especially being a beginner. But that's just my opinion.
Yeah spoon tech is hard/expensive to make with splits so it's not a big deal not having it. It's a great entry level split if you aren't going to see super deep snow. If so step it up to something like the Mind Expander.
Many thanks! I would have gone 156 that is a better all around size for your specs. I'd only stick with the 152 if you are used to smaller rides for your specs and like lots of control/super fast turn initiation, If you want to get into it more hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
Was looking at the Frontier but been warned a Jones 5 or 6 flex board is equal to any other manufacturers 9 flex, told even the Frontier is a really stiff board 🤷♂️
It helps if you have specific questions because there are a lot of differences. Jones Frontier: Faster base, much better grip, and much smoother turning experience in soft snow to powder. Much more forgiving. Burton HTH: Much more camber so better pop out of a turn in good conditions. More Ollie power as well. More set back on board and 12mm of taper so floats much better in pow if you set it all the way back.
@@thegoodridesnow thank you so much. I usually ride the whole mountain, but never just straight down - I hit side hits (although I’m not too good at it), I like riding the trees, and enjoy the small jumps of the park. I wonder what would be a great fit for my style.
Hi! I am between purchasing a Jones Frontier or a Nidecker Escape Plus and I cannot decide. I would go to a 159 as I am 174cm and 70kg. Also I love to do carving and freeride. Which one you would recommend? Thank you! I love your reviews. Also, I will take the Nidecker Supermatic bindings, are they good, aren't it?

I see you struggling to not buy every board 😂. Yeah, they are all candy to my eyes, especially rare boards and exoerimental sht, like the Yonex Irodori. I am a multi quiver guy too, and I highly recommend it to the people who live in the mountain. Having several specific boards, especially if you get lots of pow, is always nice. And if you are a lazy bstard like me, all the boards with bindings already mounted. Yeah, lots of money but there's nothing better than throw all of them in the van and choose one on the spot depending on your mood or the conditions. The price: surviving with ramen and cookies some months lol, but this is the life.
Ha! No...trying to knock out some of our favorites first. I would prefer the Frontier over the Mtn Twin and especially Stratos. If they fixed the Stratos dampness I would be begging for it though. That is it's Achilles heel for me.

How does the frontier compare to the aviator?
Aviator has a lot more camber, less early rise and a lot more pop. More spoon tech so you feel it a bit more on harder snow. It's a little less directional these days vs. the frontier as well. I like the frontier a little better for pow.
Hi, I currently ride a rider choice 154.5 and love it. I want to get mountain twin and wondering what size would work better for me 153w or 156w or 157. I mostly ride on east coast, resort and spend some time park mostly on jumps.
What is your boot size, weight and height?
@@thegoodridesnowThanks for responding. My boot size is US 10, 70 KG, 178 CMs
I now have an option to either get mountain twin in 153W or go for frontier 156 on sale. Now that adds to more confusion.
Thanks so much for your help. Much appreciated 🙏
What size in the Frontier would you suggest for 6’4” 190lbs and size 11/11.5 boot?
Would love to know how the Frontier compares directly against the Mind Expander

@@thegoodridesnowI was just talking with some snowboard buddies, and they told me to look into the moutain twin. Said stratos was a bad idea.
Flagship :damper and faster
@@thegoodridesnow thanks man I think I am leaning towards the frontier. Seems like a friendly all mountain board.
159 frontier, 9,5us medium
@@thegoodridesnow
Yeah go Force if you can. the Flite Pro's can handle the Frontier ok but the Force will be a lot better for your specs.
Interested in the frontier, im 6ft5 200lbs size 12 boot, riding big mtn/all mtn, steeper lines, trees etc what size board you think?
I'd probably go 167w. That's a good fit for you. 164w could work too if you want more control and an easier turner at the expense of speed and float. If you want to get into it more hit me here to give me the info I need to help you much better. shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/
@@thegoodridesnow have you demo'd the Ride berzerker? So far that's my board of choice I'm thinking
yes. thegoodride.com/snowboard-reviews/ride-berzerker-2012-2024-snowboard-review here is my take.
@thegoodridesnow I do appreciate that review, the Frontier I was really considering, fast lines big mountain alpine is in the picture, cheers

@@thegoodridesnow thank you for the quick reply!! Much appreciated
Damn, it looks like I bought wrong pair of boots. My mondo is 29.5 so I guess I need boots size US 11.5-12, and also that means the binding should be Union Force L. Am I right?
If you are 11.5-12US then get Force Large.
Mountain twin vs Ultra mountain twin. Intermediate rider, mainly groomers and some pow off piste. How to choose??? please please please HELP

Sorry I missed this. Need your boot size too. Very important in sizing a board.
12!
@@The-Man-On-The-Mountain all of the best splitboards ever made are camber.
Yeah spoon tech is hard/expensive to make with splits so it's not a big deal not having it. It's a great entry level split if you aren't going to see super deep snow. If so step it up to something like the Mind Expander.
@@gregory49yeah, when I said flat, I referred to the spoon tech, which was the topic of the comment, not the camber.
Hello Sir, Great review! I got the Frontier at 152. I'm 170cm about 155 lbs. Size 8.5 Shoes. Im hoping thats okay, or if i should u have gone to a 156

Hey! I have the Jones Frontier from 2023 would you say it’s the same thing as the new 2024? Or is there a difference between those two?
I don't think it changed much or at all so you should be good to go with your 2023
Frontier or yes standard …
Good day to you, If my boot size is 9.5 US or 10 US, can I use Frontier size 152? i'm tall 168 c.m. weight 70 k.g.
It should be ok in that size. What make/model/size do you ride now?
Sounds like the Frontier is a more budget friendly cross between the MT and Flagship? Great review, thanks.
Yes but with a different more turny sidecut like the Stratos. So kind of a combo of those three.
Was looking at the Frontier but been warned a Jones 5 or 6 flex board is equal to any other manufacturers 9 flex, told even the Frontier is a really stiff board 🤷♂️
How does the frontier compares to the burton hometown?

@@thegoodridesnow Hi! Of course I’d go afterwards ! :D . I have a 43EU size boot. Thanks!
Too many boards I want/need. I have the ultra mountain twin and it so dope. Wish I had another $700 laying around for another this year 😢
Yeah a good super directional board like the Ultracraft, Ultra Flagship or Ultrra Mind Expander might compliment your UMT pretty well.
