Is the Joola Scorpeus 16mm the best of the new Gen. 3 Paddles? (Review and thoughts)

- I talk about the differences between the Magnus and the Scorpeus, the playability for most amateurs, as well as the absurd amount of grit on this paddle! This might be the safest bet for anyone wanting to try the new Propulsion core of the Gen. 3 Joola’s!

I hope it is, because it’s the one I got!
had to handpick My Hyperion gen 3 to get the grit on both sides. It really is a roll of the dice buying online. I feel like my game is way better coming from playing the gear box power. A great blend of power and control.
Great review and very succinct Brian! Keep up the great work! 🥊
Much appreciated!
My scorpeus came in very fine grit. Very smooth.
High twistweight means it will move in your hand less and be more stable. And the scorpeus 16 has the highest twistweight out of all the gen 3s. So it should be the most stable
Appreciate it Doug, i had a total Brain fart as I was taping! Even though the Scorpeus should feel the most stable, it certainly doesn’t to me. I’ve added some lead tape to mine and I’m playing tonight, I’ll let you know if it helps. 💪
@@ThePicklePulse interesting! I’ve only tried just the gen 3 scorpeus 16, but to me it felt stable. I look forward to adding some weight and getting the twistweight over 7. And I also look forward to comparing it to the other models.
@@ThePicklePulseWhere did you apply the lead tape?
@@ThePicklePulse did the lead tape help enough?
if I tend to hit along the edges a lot, should I skip these gen 3 Joolas?
Drill on a wall and you’ll get better at hitting the sweet spot! I would skip these expensive paddles. Plenty of really good paddles for less!
Twist weight and sweet spot on the Colin Johns is one of the best on the market out of the box. Upper 90%ile, I wouldn’t consider this a skip
Got the super coarse Magnus3 2 weeks ago, loving the spin lol (added my Hesacore immediately)
Still dialing in my game, got to accustomed to my 6.0 DBD
I was playing with the Ruby before switching over to the Gen 3 Joola’s, The Magnus is HOT! Good luck dialing it in. Do you think the grit on your Magnus would pass?
14mm or 16mm?
@@kabnis2022 16mm Magnus
@@ThePicklePulse there is no way it would pass, but I do like that it’s the same roughness on both sides. I saw the other reviews where both sides had different grit textures
@@kabnis2022 16mm. I just added 3g of weight to the each side of the throat last night, feels a little better, since it’s lightweight compared to my DBD
What was the circumference of handle? I heard they run bigger than the advertised 4.25. Im hesitant to pull trigger to buy one bc of that.
I have one. 4.25. Supper thin grip.
@jimzimmerman5288 great, that helps with my decision, how is the control? Did you get the 16 or 14mm? Did you ever play with the gen 2 scorpeus?
Mine came in at 4 3/8, so it was 1/8” larger than it should be. I found this paddle to be far easier to control than the Magnus, that paddle is a cannon! Don’t forget that all the Gen. 3 paddles will get more poppy with time.
Is the grit going to wear off with time?and lose is spin
I know that the last Joola’s, (Gen. 1 and 2) lost their grit after about 3-6 months depending on how often you play. I hope these will last a bit longer, but I doubt it.
Does the ruby still hold up with the Kevlar grit after your months of usage? I have a Ruby and want to switch to Gen 3, but I am concerned about the durability and QA issues. @@ThePicklePulse
The best? For me personally the go to all around paddle for my skill level 3.5. My club I play rec at now has each of the new Gen 3s bought by different members and I tried all of them over the last week. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!! Thanks Joola for the Scorpeus. Grit test?? I don’t care, I play rec.
Good stuff, thanks for sharing!
I have a Perseus 3gen, and it feels great
Agree - Perseus 3 feels great. Maybe it's just my mechanic's - but I don't feel the power is that dramatic. Maybe a little big more than gen2.
The paddles have a break in period, it will get hotter the more you play with it!
14mm or 16mm?
@@kabnis2022 16mm for me.
My Scorpeus is coarse. More coarse than the Heperion Gen 3 I tried.
Do you think it would pass the grit test? Mine seems kinda ridiculous
Unfortunately mine came smooth as a block of ice. I would out the grit level at maybe 5/100.
I bought the 16mm. I like a control paddle since I play doubles all the time.
I'm not sure if it would pass. On a polyester shirt I could get it to stick to that shirt.
Got a mangus. Super grit on one side fine grit on the other. Went to dicks sports and found 1 out of 10 that actually had rough grit on 2 sides.
New issues is rattle noise in the paddle
This is the first I’ve heard about a rattle, Joola is having some serious quality control issues. Did you return the paddle that had different grit on each side?
@@ThePicklePulse Yes I just returned it to Dicks after finding a good one. Definitely recommend inspecting multiple paddles before purchasing
I like Ben Johns as a player the most so I tend to go with the Ben Johns paddles. The perseus 3 is the most powerful paddle Ive ever used
It’s so powerful, even Ben’s not using it! 😳
Rule 2.E.6.f apparently means nothing. How can pickleball be taken seriously if they won't even enforce their own rules? This isn't good for the game TBH
The fact that Joola is advertising the “trampoline effect” , which it clearly states is illegal, is crazy. I’m really interested to see if the PPA or MLP will enforce the rule at their next event.
Ahh yes, the marketing aspect of pickleball (the Joola commercial ad is ick). Power, spin, control - you can have it all. But you need lead tape... but don't use lead. what are you wearing for shoes? ... and this 300 dollar bag is the absolute best !! Wait there's a rule book ?
I would guess that people aren't buying the joola Gen 3 is for the high price and not because they are afraid they can't control it.
Illegal according to your calibrated fingernail scratch test.
LOL
😂😂😂
Get your refund. They are core crushing!!!!!!!!!
Banned paddles... bad on joola

It is pronounced Yola not "U la"
