I thought this show was exposed with claims that what was depicted was all setup by the producers. I realize that all reality shows are this way but i remember reading something about pawn stars in particular that was rather damaging to the show’s reputation. Maybe i’m wrong

It's not fake
Is a mix of everything true people going to the show trying to sale, other items that the production find and then invites to the show to see if they can make a deal and some others totally fake, some people just like the way the show explaines the history of the items. Most of it real or fake is probably mostly scripted to make it entertaining but the shop does sale the items that appear on the show so at least that part is real.
+Mikey The main controversy that comes to mind is that one of their experts (Steve Grad) was actually a fake and that he was basically pretending to be an expert in Sports Memorabilia and his credentials were fake too (he never actually graduated from the prestigious college he said he did). Therei is some evidence of scripted occurrences on the show, but nothing big enough to flat out break the law. Most of what they bring in and their "experts" are the real deal, even if they do ham it up for the camera.
Female Nasus maybe that’s what it was. I never really followed the show. I just remember seeing something about the show’s credibility. Most likely i read what you’re talking about

Why would anyone bring items like this into a pawn shop? That's why I've always believed this show is pure bullsh*t.
minkymott yes especially since I’ve only seen one person actually pawn something in an episode and the sellers look nothing like a typical pawn shop patron(ie drug addict in desperate need of money OR since it’s Vegas degenerate gambler who lost it all and needs to sell their most precious heirloom).
The only way this show would be even mildly legit would be if at least 9 out of 10 people are going there for the free and immediate valuation so they can walk out the door and get what the item’s really worth.
