      Thank you. This install was a fun one. We still have a number of things to do to keep the intake from becoming clogged.

    Ha ha. In your opening video clip, when you turned that valve, it sounded like a car starting up! Nice!

    Love videos like this..
    I have never done this before but i have a question.
    Bigger pipe up high and lower down toward the end (pressure point) use smaller pipe.
    should that not increase the PSI due to water weight in the bigger pipe pushing down from up high?
    You just can't exceed the water volume pressure value at the inlet. Correct?

      That sounds good in theory but the weight of water is actually based on vertical height not volume of that a vertical height. Increasing the size of the Pipe does not increase the pressure at the bottom. It does allow for an increase in flow rate.
      Basically I could start off with a 12" pipe and drop down to a 1/4" pipe and it would have the same pressure as a 2" pipe the whole way

    Would you design this with a larger diameter penstock if you did it again?

      for the distance that we did it at, it didn't provide much more PSI for the price of the larger pipe. If the river provided a larger flow rate then yes. this would allow us to run bigger jets and spin the motor with more torque.

      The upper section of the creek does not have the flow rate most of the year to benefit from a larger pipe.

    are the pipes from the intake to the barrel going to be supported to keep them at a downward angle and not drooping like they are in the video

    • @homesteadonthemountain3100
      @homesteadonthemountain3100 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, they will be supported all the way down. I found using 2 1x1 in a x shape to be easy on a uneven ground.

      @@homesteadonthemountain3100 I think with every dip you remove the more you will gain

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they are already supported. I think that is shown in a later video.

    Not sure if anyone’s asked but what’s the purpose of the barrel being upside down?

    • @LandtoHouse
      @LandtoHouse  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was an old barrel with holes in the bottom... so we turned it up and recycled it.

    If you have access to natural clay, you can use it with the flat stones to make a stronger damn, The clay will waterproof it, where you can hold more water.. That plastic wont last as long as the clay will.. As long as it doesn't get disturbed a lot, the clay will last for years..
