Personally. I'm a HUGE fan of the K custom line. But after repeatedly giving Zildjian a second chance. I just can't justify it anymore. Their crashes particulairly do no hold up and they cost more for some reason. Ive had Zildjian Cymbals last 3 months and I've currently got Sabians that are 5+ years old. Sabian for life

Sabian everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. The first professional level cymbals I bought were Zildjian A Custom Crashes and they cracked after 5 or 6 months. I've had a Sabian AA Bash Ride and two AAX Aero Crashes for multiple years and they're still good as new. In terms of sound, they're probably equal, but Sabian kicks Zildjians ass when it comes to durability.

Both sounded good, but my ear is different than a microphone and I don't think I'd like the sound of the Zildjian if I heard it in person, the Sabian one I would because I have heard both before and sabians, you have to lay into to get those harsh frequencies out. Zildjians, if you crash them they will let out those harsh frequencies and it sounds unpleasant. I've always found sabian to be more fuller and warmer, where zildjians lack lower frequencies in my opinion.

Your conclusions are exactly the opposite of what I heard. Heavier cymbals are usually brighter and higher pitched, which was my impression of the Sabian. I found the Zildjian to be lower-pitched (sounding more like an 18" crash should) and was also more complex and washy. I would definitely use the Zildjian as the crash/ride.

  • @cookq
    @cookq 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Both amazing, but different enough to be useful in different ways. Both of these companies have innovated in different ways since the family split in 1981. The top end brilliance and the hammering techniques on the Custom A are a recording industry/backline standard. Every cymbal sounds a little different, but a Custom A is pretty dependable for sound and quality from cymbal to cymbal. Sabian's craftspeople also have great ears and have developed their own unique hammering techniques and processes it comes through in all of their lines. I think Logan got to the right conclusion at the end of this vid, putting the Custom A on the left for crash/fills and the AAX on the right for playing grooves. The Zildjian family feud, resolved, at least temporarily, on one kit.

SABIAN ALL THE WAY! A far Richer and Greater Dynamic Range and lots of attack , but even though the Zildjians were quieter, it still caused your audio to peak out sharply. The Sabians didn't do that and yet where louder... That's pretty great testament for Sabian! All the warmth of High End Jazz Cymbals in the studio for very good value. And my personal choice for our humble home studio because of value to performance ratio.(but still deciding which budget wise models as yet ~ Right now I'm leaning towards the AAX pack if they have a 15" HI HAT version)
I just subbed to your channel. Would you consider doing a comparison between 13", 14" & 15" Hi Hats? in all aspects of play from Metal to Jazz.(just darker toned ones)
I'm an Old School 58 yr old Prog Rocker who is now playing the role of "ROADIE DAD" for my 14 yr old Guitarist son. I've been in many bands as a bass player and roadied for many friends over the years(especially drummers) and thousands of hours of studio experience. But its so hard to convey my knowledge to this generation without a proper demonstration. My issue today is I'm hearing too many Metal bands having the same basic cookie cutter sound(22" inch Bass drums and kit samples, the same FORTIN plugins etc)
So it would be great to have a source that makes these kinds of comparisons to show what I mean.
    I have even more idea's!

I used to play zildjian. But after a 18 year break of drumming, i prefer tje roughness and the warmth of Sabian
But let me say that: they all make outstanding cymbals

They are very different cymbals, the sabian is heavier and hammered differently.

I like Zildjian's sound but they're not as durable as Sabian's. And Sabians also sound great!!

They’re pretty much the same. Both made by the Zildjian family. One of Armonds sons broke off from Zildjian and started Sabian.

Based on experience, I can say that Sabian is more consistent as far as qc goes, and Zildjian seems to be turning into the Harley Davidson/Apple/Gibson of cymbals. But honestly though, if you want authentic, handmade, Turkish style cymbals, nothing beats cymbals that are actually made in Turkey. Istanbul Agop/Mehmet, and Meinl's Byzance series are perfect examples

John Bentley yes. You are right they are considered the younger brother. I currently use zildjian k but I am probably gonna try out some sabian.

@Pat Hough they both make countless cymbals. drummers who obsess about cymbals should worry more about tuning and dynamics

I agree with the guy in the video..I think A Custom a has better crash sound than sabian AAXs which sound a little gongy...but I do like Sabian Aax hi hats and ride cymbals in general better than A customs...I called Sabian and Mark Love of Sabian answered, the guy who helped Dave Weckl create the hhx evolution sound..and I told him that to me the hhx evolution and A customs are more similar in sound as far as crashes than the AAX crashes, he actually chuckled and agreed with me. I think the guys who like the Sabian AAx crashes are liking that extra little bit of volume and to me that's due to AAXs in general being a little heavier in general than A customs....without the hhx considered, my setup would be AAX hi hats and AAX ride with A custom crashes...

I agreed with you, the A Customs sound much more like the HHX. I don't know why people compare the HHX to K Customs (though I haven't really listened to K Customs that much). The AAX sounded more like the A series. Definitely prefer the A Custom, though.

Every time I hear these 2 brands compared I always leave feeling the same way. I have no doubt that Zildjian and Sabian are equal in terms of quality and standards, but the sound of Sabian cymbals always seem to have more character, richness, and musicality. Zildjian sounds fine, just a bit...idk...vanilla by comparison.
