The surname Arasaka (荒坂) means "rough mountain" or "rough slope." It is believed that Mr. Pondsmith chose this name for the fictional corporation because it is similar to Arisaka (有坂) meaning “mountain-possessor” -- the surname of a very prominent Japanese firearms designer. The son of that designer established the Arisaka Rifle Manufacturing Company in 1908, which operated until 1945. Personally, I speculate that the reference to a “rough slope" in the fictional Arasaka Corporation's name could be a metaphor for Japan's challenging journey of postwar socioeconomic recovery -- and then, in the Cyberpunk world, a second journey arising from all the spiraling consequences of the Crash of 1994. 1:37 In pronouncing the word “Tokyo,” the correct pronunciation does not include any kind of “i” sound. This is a common mistake. For those interested, Tokyo was ORIGINALLY called Edo (江戸), which was a compound of 江 e ("cove, inlet") and 戸 to ("entrance, gate, door”). That can be translated as "estuary”, and is a reference to the original settlement's location at the meeting of the Sumida River and Tokyo Bay. However, during the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the name of the city was changed to Tokyo, a compound of 東 tō (“east"), and 京 kyō ("capital”).

Well, actually we know what happens if we do not interact with Hanako or Johnny. The Tower Ending tells us, that Arasaka left Night City behind and it seems that Yorinobus plan to destroy Arasaka from the inside, becomes a success
The big new ending for Phantom Liberty clearly tells us what happens if V does nothing about Arasaka. Hanako and Takimura will still attempt their coup but fail. Yorinobu pulls Arasaka completely out of Night City allowing Militech and the NUSA to take control. And eventually Yorinobu 'resigns' his position under suspicious circumstances, almost certainly from a new internal revolt. The takeaway I got is that Yorinobu does manage to do catastrophic damage to Arasaka in a few years but the corporation still stands despite his efforts.
They got push out of night city, their prize, alongside losing plenty of money and public trust All to theyl advantage of their rivals....oh and night city probably got NUSA, bringing myser one step closer to unite america again
Is there even any functional difference between national governments and big corporations in this setting? Arasaka always seemed to be a extension of Japan while Militech a proxy of NUSA (USA). Same goes to the lessers like Kang Tao which seems to be the China avatar or Sovoil which is a proxy to the ussr or Petrochem which seems to be the same as Siemens is to germany today. However, during the Meiji Restoration in 1868, the name of the city was changed to Tokyo, a compound of 東 tō (“east"), and 京 kyō ("capital”).
Militech is inadvertently responsible for a nuclear detonation on Arasaka Headquarters.
Arasaka: "Everyone disliked that"
Not inadvertently they literally funded the operation 😅
And gave the nuke
Loving these cyberpunk videos! It would be so cool if Saka hears about the president being stranded in the dlc and sends squads to discreetly assassinate her for kicking them out of the country.
Cyberpunk 2077- A game with short playtime yet a Gigantic lore
Every Detail Has its own lore here
Thank you for your constant stream of high quality videos. i would never miss one! and best regards to mrs. wisefish, shes doing an ecellent job!
Thank you Mrs WiseFish for your writting
It would be interesting to see if somehow, between 2077 and whenever oracle might be, Arasaka would have a redemption arc while Militech gets worse
yooo 🤯💥
props to Ms. WiseFish (totally a corpo fixer handle btw, watch out) appreciate her input! definitely notice the overall flow and verbiage is a lot clearer. lotta detail to cover in a 41min vid, every bit counts :)
P.S - what/where is that Jackie footage in @31:46 from? 👀👀
never seen that in all my countless cyberpunk2077 playthroughs
I can't get enough of these lore videos.
If you have a powerful modern PC. Do yourself a favor and play this game! Holy shit it's so good now!
Amazing video as always, discovered your content a while ago, love it ever since, keep it up wise one !!!
Cyberpunk legit has the most intersting and deepest lore ever.
I really wish you had a the option to listen to Yorinobu and then side with him to take down Arasaka. In different circumstances, Yorinobu and Johnny Silverhand would have been great comrades
Yorinobu was the hero all along 😭
Like Enrico Pucci said "the Joestars, were my allies all along!"
By that I mean replace Pucci with V and the Joestars with Yorinobu.
Oh my gosh this was really well narrated! Thank you
My go to channel for all cyberpunk lore! Love it
V ending with Arasaka is a very dark future, you basically give up the control of your soul to Arasaka, they will control your memory your very being and who know what they will do to you.
ONe of the possibility is they modify the memory and clone to a body and make V a slave with no freewill.
I love Arasaka. They've got that awesome vibe. Love how cool and evil they are.
Man it must really sucks being son of the emperor of Arasaka.🐱
Bro, I be drooling about having/inheriting such fortune every night.
Yeah being one of the richest and most powerful people alive must suck
To be fair, his only reason for living is to become his father’s body after death
@@grilledleeks6514it does which is why yorinobu betrayed the company
Really amazing story! One of the biggest corporations ever, just about! Well played.
I love how your wife or girlfriend writes your videos that’s so adorable!
That lore is amazing. Saburo Arasaka is inspirational asf.
gonna be honest that's not the message you should be taking 💀
@@emptythreatcovers5085 some of the most inspirational people ever were not "good" people. look at any famous figure thought of as a great person, they did things wrong too. mlk cheated on his wife, jfk, no man is perfect or really good. every man has duality

@@bxddalmao the fbi lied on mlk smh
these guys are crazy villainous with that "Soul Killer"
neat! a new video.
have a good weekend everyone.
The mega corporations in cyberpunk remind me off the mega corporations in borderlands
This was awe inspiring, I got a shot of nastalgia from listening to this.
I'm going too play cyberpunk now
Nodtalgia about what? Ww2?😂 rest of this game is future😅
Everyone looks nervously at Amazon
The part about Gordocanal look like the battle of Guadalcanal.
Arisaka was pretty ingenious at the start
They got push out of night city, their prize, alongside losing plenty of money and public trust
All to theyl advantage of their rivals....oh and night city probably got NUSA, bringing myser one step closer to unite america again
I love your videos! Even for games i haven't played they're always super interesting 😊
Startin off September strong with this preem content 😱
"Just to confuse us all" lmao 😂
Im not into playing video games anymore, but damn those lore videos are so entertaining
That’s sad to hear but glad enjoyed this dude!
Love your name!
@@WiseFishnext you should make a video about Biotechnica.
Night Corp being the embodiment of Night City state self governance.
It seems just like they are all the tentacles of big boy national governments.
After around 400 hours in game and watching this I’m getting the impression that arasaka are actually the bad guys
Bosozuku is just the Japanese term for a motorcycle subculture focusing on customized bikes.
It’s actually a real thing and their styles are WILD.
The Arisaka backed gang the tiger claws is based off of that
It's not just bikes.
@@KaitouKaiju never said it was. I said foucsing.
I’ve soon those wild kids modify semi trucks with the same style. Anything with an engine. But motorcycles are generally considered where it started.
I'd like to see a C&C style cyberpunk game, i want to take the factions build their armies
The genre is called RTS - real time strategy. C&C Red Alert 3 will be the one of the closest things, regarding tech level and ambience, with a bit o sillyness tossed together.
Its also worthy checking out the old timey turn based/tactical rpgs; I can only think of the shadowrun games, but im sure there’s more.
10:28 Arasaka Advenced Soldier systems or Arasaka ASS
Love it!!!! Amazing work again you 2
18:37 SLOVAKIA MENTIONED!!!
Started a new run and now Jackie's face when Saburo eats it is ruining his Street Cred...
Swear I read the title as the “Alaska” company five times and didn’t understand what was going on for a bit
Thank you for the covering Arasaka corporation. Can you please cover the Umbrella Corporation, the Organization and Tricell from the Resident Evil series.
Arasaka better chill out or I’m gonna have to step in. (I’m a naked man with gorilla arms)
Another banger my guy. Noice!
Could you do a video on Armored core 6. I know you won't get to many videos out of it. But it'd be cool still to see a video on the world of Rubicon, the coral, and corporations.
There is a channel delving into armored core lore before ACVI release called Armored Core Lore.
Saburo, aka saburo sakai, aka a high scoring japanese ace in ww2, turned corpoate megamind lmao
THEY'RE AFTER OUR SOULS V!!!
Man as a Corpo lover I would love to see a story where we rise the rank and become the Arasaka family hit man for hired
A Takemura DLC would be pretty cool Ngl
Just a like and a comment to let Mrs. WiseFish know she's got respect for her good work.
35:10 and thus we come in. AMAZING story telling. hope you can make a lore video of the ending of phantom liberty
crazy lore
I dont even play the game. I'm just here for the lore.
Many thanks for this comprehensive video - great production value! Much appreciated!
Arasaka is the best corp. They will put my engram in another body in the near future and I will go back to being an Arasaka employee, this time as a COO, Hanako-sama and I talked about this. Shortly after that, I will travel to Japan and meet Goro in Kagawa as he promised to show me what real food is. Not that I've not tried it before since my life in Arasaka Counter Intel was pretty lavish.
😭
Take your meds
Gawddam these roleplayers…
@@Ripper030 It's a role-playing game and you're in a lore video lmao
choom wtf.....
love this
Good stuff mrs wisefish🙂👍
It's like a documentary! I love it ❤
Cyberpunk is an IP that should never be dropped. There is so much they can do with it.
So.....Yorinobu wasn't the bad guy?
Yorinobu probably was a fan of Johnny's music lol 😂
7:23 - 7:38 "wait, i am rich, nevermind, lol"
Wow just discovered u beautiful Story telling
What is considered the canon ending to CP77? Im guessing with how f’d up the world is the Devil ending where Saburo is revived?
Won't know until project Orion is out
Make a video taking about the cybermodificatios in the universe Like the IEC Dragoon and others.
Nice video !
I only thing i dont like about cyberpunk 2077 is the fact u cant truly role play as a corpo taking over melitech or Arasaka ,it just feels like the writers only wrote a story for street kid more so than nomad i honesty believe the devs rushed the game cuz it needed way more time to be cooked in the oven, and tbh i expected cyberpunk 2077 to be like deus ex mixed with bladerunner and ghost in the shell with a dash of gta , and the choosing system from mass effect trilogy ,🤔 i mean thats wat i was wanting the whole time ,i still love the game but i expected more tho
There's no logical way V could take over a corporation of that size. It's good they didn't take the Skyrim approach and just make you head of a major faction just for doing some quests
@@nxxynx5039 🤔 never played Skyrim ,but i do believe v should at least have a option to do that ,😂its a fantasy ,u cam literally be a cyber psycho without actually being one😂 at the end of the game v is more mechine than man at that point if u upgraded him to the max cuz i made a netrunner and mixed with an enforcer build literally op asf and i was on the hardest difficulty
It wouldn't fit the themes of the cyberpunk genre, which is predicated on trying to break the status quo and destroying the system. Becoming part of it will always lead to a lose state, since the character loses any claim to heroism (or being an anti-hero).
@@KaiserAfini y wouldnt it fit the theme, like i admit that cyberpunk has light rpg elements but it shouldve been better then wat came out back in 2020 but u literally can do anything as long as it a lines with the lore of cyberpunk i truly felt 2077 was a pond compared to the vast Ocean of actual lore i just feel like the game came out in a rush and it didnt capture everything in the lore 🤔 thats wat i mean
@@thedude4871 I meant that its based on the cyberpunk story genre, the genre that started with Neuromancer. That particular style of writing (including script writing) has the protagonists trying to break the system as one of its core pillars, becoming part of the system is considered a fail state.
Arasaka, the big bad of the Cyberpunk world. One that you can damage but can't truly destroy.
Hooo boe, here we go with the good 'ole Arasaka.
I think i lost parentals grade after i heard saburu/yanuro for the 200 times.
I had an aneurysm every time I heard you pronounce Guadalcanal. Great video regardless.
i love this game
I'm enjoying this but you can tell wisefish isn't a WWII buff
this makes the death of some old man matter more
Arasaka corp vs Atlas, who wins?
pretty sure they are Equal
Arasaka
Why in the universe is everyone so invested in saving this company?
My biggest pet peeve, like in real life we see how investors run away with the slightest hint of disturbance in the company.
Too big to fall....literaly in this case
So why did Yorinobu want to destroy his families legacy, was it because of daddy issues or something else?
never mind I googled it, I never realized that Yorinobu was kind of a good guy or at least somewhere in a gray zone
holy shit guys, spend 15 seconds of your life and read what an algorithm is, there's no living forever that was the whole point of the game, once you die you die, doesn't matter if you're saburo, jackie or that homeless guy next to misty's
