I thru hiked the FT last year. Shocking the amount of trees down on the West side. Glad you got to hook up with Fresh Ground and Ramdino again. I think I saw my friend Greyhound in the crew hanging out there. Good pivot to head over to GA since the FT wasn’t going to be possible. Be blessed!

It was nice to see the lake and a bit more of the state park that I did not hang around to see. Thanks for showing some! As you already know, I wish I could have met you, but you did make a wise choice to avoid those storms. It caused the majority of people on the Foothills Trail, including me, to leave early, and apparently the Chattooga River had even flooded over the trail on the way back to Oconee!
It’s a nice campground; however, I didn’t really love the lack of privacy in the campsites. Not my favorite, but it is a beautiful park overall. Definitely wish we could’ve met. I hope we cross paths some time. 😊 Yeah, I agree. Since we have already done the FHT twice, we didn’t think it would be worth slogging through the freezing rain…especially because it was partly to celebrate Bear’s 12th birthday. When we’re all together, we like getting to camp and hanging out, not recreating to the tents. 🤣 Maybe next year will be better. We want my husband to be able to hike the whole trail!

This is full circle in a small way, because I first found your channel through Ramdino's AT updates in the spring. That looked like a fun hangout, and I love the idea of hiking to bring donations. LB and HB look so much alike, it's funny. But I suspect their personalities are very different! Officer Brian came in clutch remembering all the names, lol. A start with trail adjustments due to weather seems so expected… 😉 the degree of damage to the trail is insane. Some of those rootballs are ginormous. It’s amazing how much work has been done in such a short time by all the trail maintainers and other crews.
No need to hike in near freezing heavy rain, especially since the purpose of this trip was to have fun as a family and start LB’s birthday celebration. 🎉 We’re so grateful for the hero trail maintainers!!
First time seeing some of the Foothills after hurricane. Thanks... I stop carrying my thermometer between my pack and back because it picks up body heat. I am now carrying it in the back (or front of the pack).

W. of Oconee SP, at intersect of US Hwys. #441 & 76, which is 26 mi. E. of Hiwassee]. It has Parking on both sides of the gorge, with several overlooks & a swinging bridge near the bottom. You can hike the whole gorge, even to the river bottom, in 3/4 hrs ~ A Great 'Cardio' Workout! Clayton has a nice downtown area, with Clayton Baptist Church, the 'Outdoor 76' outfitter (same as in Franklin), cafes like 'The Rusty Bike', and if needed Reeves' (huge) Ace Hardware, Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Ingles, etc.) ~ Just South of town, on 441; The BlueRidge Honey Co., is a great stop ~ 3 miles North of town, is the Black Rock Mtn. SP, which is a beautiful winding drive, with a variety of short hiking trails, and an overlook of Clayton, with rental cabins along the mountain-top. To the wildflower adventure family yesterday i completed the approach trail for the AT from the falls visitor center to springer mtn . Then went to the trailhead parking got a ride from Mary back to the visitor center did 11 miles in 6 hrs with breaks 4 hrs total hiking time enjoyable trip for sat 28 dec 2024 Going to be back for AT orientation on feb 15
@wildflowersadventures took the stairs. Meeting and interaction with another hikerbdoing his shake down of equipment for his through hike starting in March. We shared a meal at the springer mt shelter around 3 pm sat If you were there this past sat my truck was the one in the visitor center with search and rescue on the side of it
The approach trail is no joke! It’s definitely challenging! Glad you had a good time. I think I remember seeing your truck. We were there on Saturday. Maybe we’ll see you on the AT! February is coming quickly!
Sorry I missed you two on the EOD Hike. I got down there on thev26th and hiked to Fresh Ground from Oconee and stayed the night there, but headed out first thing to hike on so i left before you got there. Jope to see you two in trail in 2025, but im doing a flip flop from the Shenandoahs NOBO, then finishing SOBO at Springer, but you guys may catch me, im older and slow! Good luck in 2025!

Thank you for sharing. I encourage you to watch Ramdino’s updates. He is in touch with the trail clubs, shuttle drivers, and hikers already going through those sections. It’s best to get information from people on the ground in real time. I’ve seen quite a few videos and people contributing to fear mongering. Whether it’s intentional or not, I cannot say.

WOW can't believe how much blow down and how open it looked. Did you notice if they had to rebuild any of the bridges?
It looked so different! The damage was significant. It didn’t look like any bridges had sustained damaged on the section we hiked.

@wildflowersadventures took the stairs. Meeting and interaction with another hikerbdoing his shake down of equipment for his through hike starting in March. We shared a meal at the springer mt shelter around 3 pm sat
If you were there this past sat my truck was the one in the visitor center with search and rescue on the side of it
@wildflowersadventures also my most challenging hike yet, cant wait to start the AT in February I can only do sections

Sorry I missed you two on the EOD Hike. I got down there on thev26th and hiked to Fresh Ground from Oconee and stayed the night there, but headed out first thing to hike on so i left before you got there. Jope to see you two in trail in 2025, but im doing a flip flop from the Shenandoahs NOBO, then finishing SOBO at Springer, but you guys may catch me, im older and slow! Good luck in 2025!

Hi there! It’s a yearly tradition and a hiker reunion. It’s so much fun. Plus, initially when we planned it this time, my husband was going to be able to walk it for the first time. 😊

Thank you for sharing. I encourage you to watch Ramdino’s updates. He is in touch with the trail clubs, shuttle drivers, and hikers already going through those sections. It’s best to get information from people on the ground in real time. I’ve seen quite a few videos and people contributing to fear mongering. Whether it’s intentional or not, I cannot say.
