    CachyOS is what I've been running for the past 2+ months. It's very stable. And the latest 560 nVidia drivers are great. The handheld release is for the ROG Ally X hand-held gaming console that comes with Windows on it. Also, for gamers, do NOT use gamemode. Because of the scheduler, you do not want to use gamemode scripts. Instead, use game-performance instead which gets installed when you install the game package. Definitely read through their WIKI to learn a lot, especially if you're going to be gaming on it.
    As for snapper, that is for snapshots so you can roll back after an update/upgrade. Definitely recommended.

      Same here, switched from bazzite around 2 months ago and it’s been working more or less flawlessly since then.
      For newcomers looking for something that is a bit more ”just works out of the box” I’d probably recommend bazzite, but for me (also new to Linux) CachyOs has been great. It comes with more freedom and I love learning more about Linux, which I’ve had to in order to customize it to my needs.
      Also cachyos has been a lot faster in adopting the new Nvidia drivers which has been of great benefit for me when gaming.

      Thanks for the tip. I was going to install gamemode this weekend, I'm glad I read your post first. I'll read up on game-performance.

    I've been waiting over 20 years for CachyOS. Gaming is finally seamless and I was able to completely ditch windows. I don't think I've had to open a terminal yet. Everything works.

    cachy with kde has been running very well for me. Gaming on it is like butter. Glad you checked it out.

    I've been running CachyOS with Hyprland 0.42 for a week on a ten year old HP notebook. Thoroughly impressed. I have Fedora 40 with Hyprland 0.39 on two newer PCs, but seriously considering switching to Cachy (hate to fix PCs that are running perfectly well though),

    another great thing about cachyOS is it runs fish shell out of the box, and fastfetch, really good up to date distro.

    For what its worth I highly doubt anyone installing CachyOS... with Budgie would be a "new" Linux user... so leaving out the fluff theming packaging is a perfectly sane option imo. Cachy is great if you don't feel like doing a Arch install... the work they do on the pre compiled kernels is fantastic, and the GUI kernel builder is also a cool feature. I have done the arch install a few times... and I have zero quams about just running Cachy from this point forward, assuming the devs don't go crazy or something. If you want as close to just arch without spending an evening installing and tweaking arch there are 2 or 3 good options, and I think Cachy is no at the top of my list. Cachy or Endeavour... if you want BORE and a few extra performance tweaks Cachy is the way.

      Yep, many content creators (& devs) seem to forget KISS. Big wtf? Skip @14:40.
      IMO more than one theme, etc, is bloat with install. It comes with 3 different software installers.
      After first boot load step by step like install, setup core requirements like display, etc.
      When complete, pick what you want to add, just like browser extensions.
      "assuming the devs don't go crazy or something". Ah-huh.

    WOW!!! I used this before back when it first came out- and used it with EXT4 and my own settings-- out of habit- and had issues with it- glithces etc. so thought it needed time to mature. NOW- after my other distros conked out-- I installed this-- on default with BTRFS and let it set itself pretty much- and WOW-- it IS blazingly fast-- and the snapshots are INSTANT.. and easy to rollback to. I've had to rollback when an update to ONIONSHARE messed it up a bit- and it was instantly rolled back and PERFECT. I'm loving it now--- FASTER than I remember. LOVING IT!!! OH- and this is coming from a long time DEBIAN user that avoided arch like the plague-- so that says a LOT for it!!! OH_ and I use TILING on my NEW 6.1 KDE with krohnkite script and it works PERFECTLY!!!!

    I've installed this on 2 PCs so far and it is blazing fast. I first installed it on my gaming PC and tried some games. The frame rate has improved. I install it on an old Lenovo laptop and at first I had it throw a bunch of errors over the microcode before killing tty and refusing to boot to the live USB. It turns out that I hadn't updated Ventoy for a while. It booted and installed fine after the Ventoy update. I had a little trouble installing the Broadcom wifi driver, but opted for the dkms and now it works fine. I'm seriously considering putting it on most of my machines.
    EDIT: On both PCs Discover was supposed to be installed but wasn't for some reason. I had to install it manually and all the back-ends.

    After having briefly switched from Windows 11 to Linux Mint on my two-year-old Beelink SER4 4800U Edition Mini PC, it has succumbed to internal hardware failure and died a few months ago. I’m thinking about installing CachyOS on my next Mini PC, which will be the Beelink EQR6 7735HS Edition. I’ve heard so many good things about CachyOS, and I’ve been wanting to give that particular Linux distro a go ever since. Also, I’ve recently heard about how very buggy Windows 11 24H2 was for many users, and the bugs probably won’t be fixed until the end of the year, and I’ve decided that Windows might not be for me anymore. Besides, I don’t use a lot of modern programs that strictly require Windows, anyway.

      Is your PC older hardware? CachyOS is made for more recent hardware. But you can also choose a different scheduler per their WIKI.

    I'm surprised you're running btrfs and didn't recognize snapper. What system snapshot manager are you using? I was also surprised you spent so much time fussing on Budgie issues. If Budgie won't let you reset to default desktop options that's not a CachyOS issue, is it? And that you had to endure a default Budgie text-based menu? Oh, the humanity!

    Personally, I prefer an Arch based distro that uses the stock Arch repos (like EndeavourOS or Garuda Linux) so I can still use the AUR. That being said, I still think CachyOS has a place. It's just not for me.

    • @Emancipatriot
      @Emancipatriot 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have no clue where you got the impression you can’t use the aur. As long as you have git, fakeroot, base-devel and few other basic packages you can just go clone a repo after searching up the package on the aur website. Another thing you can do is go grab the archlinux tweak tool from that same aur webpage, then add the additional repos you want into your etc/pacman database under the pacman section for the tweak tool menu. You can use pretty much any arch repo with any arch disto

    • @tylersperry9164
      @tylersperry9164 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      There seem to be AUR users on the CachyOS forums. What problem do you anticipate with CachyOS that you think Garuda has solved? I've been running Garuda on one of my boxes and it's not shy on linking up to the Garuda mothership.

    • @Emancipatriot
      @Emancipatriot หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cameronbosch1213 my comment got deleted. Arco Linux has a package in the aur the archlinux tweak tool. You can clone that repository for the aur package, then install it. After that you can get all the different mirror providers you could imagine. Also, the Aur works regardless of which arch based distro you use. You just use the git clone feature

      Nah man, this isn't just "another" arch distro. This is *THE* Arch Linux distro. The optimizations they did on this distro goes beyond what other Arch Distros did. They actually added stuff to their distro to make it distinct, and their repos are updated and tried and true. Basically, this is to Arch what Ubuntu (in its prime, mind you) was to Debian. Easy to install, setup, and use your hardware to its maximum with fairly low tinkering, with the stability and reliability that you expect from a Debian based distro. Have it for 8 months, never broke on me.
