I love pieces like this where the joy, sorrow, tension, hope are all wound together. Much of it is probably the complicated chord progression. John is a Master artist at this. Maybe he learned it when he scored Fiddler, "If I Were A Rich Man" when Tevye talks about sitting in the Synagogue

So lovely. Almost jazzy? Williams' harmonies are so rich, without ever feeling overly complicated.
He may have a better sense of harmonic tension and release than just about any other living composer!
