Brian Wilson is a musical genius, orchestrated All the music, could hear the score in his head then created it. This despite a tyrannical father who damaged his hearing

One of my favorites released back in 1966 along with "Good Vibrations". The Beach Boys appear to be transitioning away from their usual "Surf" sound.

Their early years were filled with numerous uptempo tunes about surfing, cars, and girls, along with some love songs, all filled with amazing harmonies.

“Pet Sounds”their masterpiece, as written and arranged by Brian Wilson, was released in 1966. Their early singles and albums were made and released beginning in 1961.
The 70s had them advance musically but their sales were down because their fan base just wanted the safe, rocking singles. Yet, the fans that loved their new fresh music were rabid fans.
Brian Wilson: Bass guitar and writer
    Mike Love : Singer/front man
Carl Wilson : singer, lead guitar, writer
    Al Jardine : Rythym guitar
Dennis Wilson : drummer, became a prolific writer as did Carl, Al and Mike.
Glen Campbell : Replaced Brian on bass on tours
When Glen left for his own career,
Bruce Johnston replaced Glen on bass and wrote songs.
David Marks: their 1st lead guitarist
    Blondie Chaplin : Singer, guitarist
    Rikki Fataar : Drums
Albums: Surfing U.S.A., Today!, Pet Sounds, 20/20, Smile ( unreleased until 2014 ) , Smiley Smile, Wild Honey, Friends, Sunflower, Carl and the Passions -So Tough, Holland.
Check out their history on Google!
Many songs, videos and tributes appear on TH-cam.

Their songs are literally about summertime and anything to do with the ocean. This song is a drawing outside the lines and is a favorite.
So many songs related brilliant summer magic and the girl.
    " Kokomo " is a good step as a follow-up.

Brian Wilson, the musical genius behind a lot of the Beach Boys' songs, unfortunately suffered from depression through much of his life. There is a band called Barenaked Ladies that have a song called "Brian Wilson" that is a great song you should check out.

Widely regarded as possibly the best song by the Beach Boys, who had many hits. They were there in that transitional period where rock / pop was going from meaningless dancing and surfing bubble gum music to songs with more mature and philosophical thoughts. In the lore of the period, the change in music was often associated with getting high, but IMO it's clear that folk music - which had a more mature and poetic message - was infiltrating everywhere. Largely due to the success of Bob Dylan. I'm not a huge fan of Dylan, but IMO his influence in undeniable. In '65 he switched from acoustic folk to electric folk rock, and this is when everything changed. All the big bands were in competition with each other, and this is where effort went.

Here's a change of pace for you. With summer coming soon, one of the songs ushering in summer was "It's Summertime" by the Jamies. It first came out in the late 50's. but reissued in the early 60s. 2 minutes of innocence and upbeat vibes. Also, try "Runaround Sue" by Dion, and if you want some great Motown, you can't miss with The Four Tops "Reach out". Finally, you've done some great Simon and Garfunkel, but no sampling of their work is complete without "Old Friends/Bookends". Introspective and emotional.

This was very innovative and unusual for them. Most of their songs are happy and as full of vocal harmonies as this was.
Good Vibrations should be your next one.

“God Only Knows" is a song by American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1966 album Pet Sounds. Written by Brian Wilson and Tony Asher, it is a baroque-style love song distinguished for its harmonic innovation and complexity, unusual instrumentation, and subversion of typical popular music conventions, both lyrically and musically. It is often praised as one of the greatest songs of all time and as the Beach Boys' finest record. Wilson produced the record between March and April 1966, enlisting about 20 session musicians, most from the Los Angeles studio session group, The Wrecking Crew, who variously played drums, sleigh bells, plastic orange juice cups, clarinets, flutes, strings, French horn, accordion, guitars, upright bass, harpsichord, and a tack piano with its strings taped. His brother Carl Wilson sang lead, a vocal performance that became regarded as Carl's best ever, with Brian himself and Bruce Johnston providing additional harmonies. The song ends with a series of repeating vocal rounds, another device that was uncommon for popular music of the era.

Paul McCartney is one of the frequently cited admirers of the song. Many songwriters, including Paul McCartney and Jimmy Webb, have cited "God Only Knows" as their personal favorite song. McCartney described it as "the greatest song ever written".😊 The sound is not that great on this video.
