Camelot, please do us a favor when they actually close; Big bold graphic marking the date (and potentially time) when they close. I plan on marking in my calendar and celebrating it every year. :)
I got some driving to do tomorrow. Where I am, there are 2 Game Stops, literally across the street from each other, and another GameStop just over a mile from each of them, and another one 2 miles further down. In my opinion, that's too many in such a short circle. What do they think they are, Starbucks? This would explain why the manager told me when my special order came in to "get it within 2 days". I have no reserves to cancel, but hey, I'm fine with taking advantage of any sales on stuff. What douchebaggery to lay off people at the holidays.
The flower mound store closing blew my mind when I saw the sign driving by it a few days ago. That store has been there at least as long as I’ve lived in the area (about 20 yrs) and I don’t know the numbers but based on the area I’d imagine it’s a relatively successful location. I remember buying gameboy and n64 games there as a kid. It’s nuts. Thought of your vids first thing when I saw that sign out.
Jetman80 they don’t fit the criteria for Taps. They have no honor. More like a sword to the stomach, a grunt, and loss of bowel control. Alone in the darkness on their knees wondering where it all went wrong.
I’m a former manager from YEARS ago and I’ve participated in moving reservations to gift cards because a store was closing and my DM(old name for the DLs) commanded a bunch of us to do it. PLEASE go get your unclaimed reservations and don’t let them pocket your money for nothing.
Big discounts. About 3 locations in NYC are closing. 1 in Brooklyn (nearest to me)1 in Manhattan and 1 in Queens. Took the opportunity to buy some accessories for my stepson. Games were like 60% off. I was able to find a list of stores that are on the chopping block online but not sure if I should post it here. Dont want more heat on camelot. List does include the flower mound location.
One in my mall closed 7 years ago and threw away stacks of brand new hardcover game guides so I grabbed as many as I could carry. I use the same dumpster as them at work so I wasn’t just searching through garbage randomly, but took them to a book store across the street and made like $30. And for the record I’m a dumpster diver now
I've been holding off on buying PS Vita games since I knew this was happening to Gamestop. Makes me wonder if I should buy what I want from them now so I dont miss out.
I was in a Gamestop in Lexington, Ky and it was depressing. 10-years ago, I was so excited to see that place. It was the community hub. Now its a damn ghost town :(
I went to my local EB store and asked the new manager what she thinks about Gamestop closing down (EB owns gamestop and if Gamestop goes down so does EB games). She said theyre probably closing stores and firing people because Gamestop has too many employees in EU, but she thinks shes safe because she works for EB not Gamestop. I had a look around the store, and EB no longer sell PC games in store or peripherals for PC. The manager told me that PC games have completely gone digital, but I can buy a online gift card.
It's great advice to warn people about losing their money to pre-orders getting canceled by the store. It seems a far more important consumer warning than to have it buried at the end of the video. You should consider doing a separate PSA video highlighting and emphasizing this point, titling it something like "Refund Your Pre-Order Before Gamestop Steals It." Just a thought. I'd hate for someone to lose their money over Gamestop's bullshit.
1.4m *mall* location. Similar situation years ago with the district here, but you're definitely going to see more closures in the near future. Just don't guess which ones based on plain revenue. Mall stores are more expensive to operate, expect those ones to go first, on average.
Never understood why people preorder from Gamestop when you can preorder from Amazon with no money down and the ability to cancel with the click of a button.
@@ElegantPluck ...that will be closing a month later, lolz. Glad I haven't preordered anything in a while and I let my pro membership expire about a month ago, looks like the timing was uncannily impeccable
Its so crazy because I live right next to the headquarters and I know a few of these stores! The flourmound one, 11 mins away from where I live. Insane. I went to the headquarters looking for a job because I just turned 18, its a cool place, they have a Nintendo themed cafe, but when I was there, everyone looked super stressed and hesitant. Wonder what its like now.
I'm not lucky enough to have my store close😭😭 also the 15 per week is a real thing they gave us a slip of paper that we have to write the name phone and quote on it and see if they come in and mark off it was complete.
It's the Gamestop hunger games. I like how they suddenly closed stores right after holidays to dodge returns. Got to desperately cling on to what few sales they did get.
lol i remember when i was 14-15 a gamestop associate was trying to get me to sign up for a credit card, and i was halfway through the application when my dad came in and got pissed. glad to see that their days are numbered.
Kinda like Dunkin Donuts in Mooseland.. they closed in the early 2000s and most building are still up.. 15 years later they closed the last 3 "restaurant" in Montreal.
I just love how I'm witnessing a blogged documentation of GameStop's demise... so in like in 5 years from now, your videos will be research citing for school projects! xD
The tough part is not knowing what stores are closing unless u call or go by and check for any signs by chance. i use to go to one close by and across town , but since not a gamer i stopped trying games after a time and now just have games and 2 old game box . but guessing if the stores in town are closing , that they be slammed with traffic pretty fast for the discounts and stuff.
I was just wondering this too because ebgames is under gamestop which is based in. Usa so hmm 🤔, guess time will tell and maybe camelot can give information on if eb games Canada 🇨🇦 is closing too or not
Amazing. They couldn't even make it to the end of the year. So, going into next year, the company will already be nothing more than a husk, basically. This means there's basically no chance of them getting the boost people were expecting from the next gen console launches, because that would require them to still be around an entire year from now. This is why businesses need to stop treating customers like a get rich quick source of income and respect them, so that they turn into a reliable, loyal, long term source of income. But, what do I know, after all, I'm not a CEO (God, the system is so fucking broken).
I think they are doing everything in their power to hang on until then but its not looking good. The blood is in the water and Camelot331 has com to feast
Annnnnd a few months later... queue the pandemic. All non-essential businesses must close. GameStop: "NOOOOOOOOO!!!! We are an ESSENTIAL BUSINESS! We REFUSE to close!" Me: "Essential business, my ass!"
I just hope they end up doing some massive sale so I can increase my retro game collection, especially for the GBA and DS. Then again, after those games shipped with empty plastic cases for those DS games, im pretty damn hesitant to even want to buy from them again, even with a 30% discount or something close to that.
I went to gamestop with a friend last night this explains why the manager there randomly asked us what phones we had lol and gave us price ranges on what we could get
Gamestop have been selling games very cheap last few weeks here in Sweden, bought Fire Emblem 3 houses LE for like 40 bucks, all collections edition for half price. And lots of Switch games for 10 bucks a piece, games that cost like 40 to 50 bucks in other stores. So far every week new games been set to 10 dollars, and people are buying lots of them to resell and make a nice profit. When I bought the FE 3 houses LE I got sent the normal version first, and I did msg them about it, and got sent the LE version, and got to keep the normal version.
As much as I want to take part in the sales, I really don't want my money going towards that company... but wow the sales... this is what we all were waiting on. Black friday 2.0. I never did reserves in the first place but hearing what they do with reserves if the store closes makes me want to never do a reserve ever under any circumstance. I paid for a product, I demand to get what I paid for. If there's a legal loophole to just rob me, hell now. I won't give you any money at all (though the REAL evil are the game developers cashing out on half ass games on release)
@@ElegantPluck, no. They don't. Did you not watch the video? He literally said he had to close 2 stores down, in which all he could do was tell them to call corporate. They put all the money on gift cards and send it their way. It's exactly what happened with Game Crazy. They spout lies in an effort to keep your money in house lol.
I stopped regularly visiting GameStop for all of my gaming needs around 2010 or 2011 and used Amazon and Best Buy for pre-ordering due to the 20% discounts and a better online shopping experience. For non pre-orders though I would visit a variety of stores for sales. However, I still occasionally find myself going to Gamestop and getting games and hardware here and there. I got my New 3DS XL there at launch in 2015 and the store was crowded with non pre-ordering customers. I got my 1TB XB1 S there in Feb 2017 and the store was pretty busy. I got my NES Classic there in early December of 2016 early in the day after their delivery truck arrived and it was packed. I got my SNES Classic there in May 2018 during the middle of the week after lunch and there was still another 4 groups of people in there. I got 4 3DS games for a family member there a few days before Christmas and it was pretty packed. This year though, I went to 7 different Gamestop locations at least 15 times, maybe 20 times, due to good sales on new games, a few exclusive games I pre-ordered, and the 4 for $20 on used games. Each time I went though, either the store was completely empty or there was only 1 other person there. The only time this wasn't the case was about a week before Black Friday at the mall location during the middle of the day on a weekend. Every other time it was either me and a single employee or 1 only other person in the store. It's crazy. I still remember, just 2 years ago, waiting in long lines every time I went with 3 registers open, 1 of which was for a single person trading in 20+ games and accessories. Now it's practically dead. What happened in the past 2 years that caused the stores from being packed to empty?

That incident and these videos expose a much deeper problem in our country and in corporate America as a whole.

There won't be any sales. Anything of actual value will basically be sold at normal price. The stuff that will be marked down is used trash that has sat in their inventory for years. You're not going to get a Switch for 30% off.
I feel like the used inventory will be where the money is at. With how cheap its bought and marked up at. They have the ability to "take a hit" and still make money on each copy.
Can I just say, when I was younger about 7-8, I had a gamebody advance clear body, It fell off a table one day while at a picnic with family and the screen broke, had a small like slice mark across it and just stopped working, back then no one really knew how you would get something like that fixed, we took it to our local Gamestop to see if they had Nintendo's number or something so we could send it back/pay for it to be fixed, the dude ended up taking it and giving me a new one, (out of box mind you) he said it was his, but I remember him grabbing it from the back draw so I'm not sure, and he just told my mum he'd send it back to Nintendo and say that he received it like that, now growing up my parents didn't have much money, if he didn't do something like that for me I would have not have received a new gamebody advance until my next Birthday or Christmas next year, ever since then I shop at Gamestop regardless and am happy to pay an extra $10-$20 on a game all because of that one memory. and even think about it regularaly despite it being like 12-14 years ago

Everyone in the comments dancing on gamestops grave are too young to remember a time when gamestop was THE place. Sad to see them go but selling more trinkets then games is what put them in the grave. They have no one to blame but themselves.
Nah. The market changed. More people are buying straight through console, or online and having it shipped. Their ridiculous pricing also put them under as people started going elsewhere due to it. The fact they sell used games at 1 cent less than new game price is a complete joke. They were good when they had actual competition like Game Crazy.
I've been waiting for this day since they took over my local Funco Land and did unspeakable things to it. I SWORE YOU WOULD BE AVENGED ONE DAY FUNCOLAND!
Wow! Former GameStop (and before that EBGames/Electronics Boutique) store manager here. I left in 2006, not long after the Xbox 360 launched. I was there when EB started selling Pre-Owned video games. The near buyout of an almost bankrupt Software Etc. by EB, then the ultimate buyout of EBGames by GameStop. Judging by your videos, nothing has changed in how GameStop runs their business since 2005. Which of course explains why they are failing now. I can count on one hand how many times I bought something from GameStop since then. Heck, for the last several years I wasn't sure if I was in GameStop or Hot Topic. I've subbed and will keep watching. Thanks for the (bad, jk) memories.

Troy Vincent actually Troy he’s been reporting on this stuff for awhile and everything he’s said was going to happen has happened. He’s had a guy on the inside for awhile now.
Hell yeah, went into a store in Garland Texas this week to scrap what I could before the store shuts down. Tried to call in and found the stored information was removed from the main Gamestop website. Amazing how the stores set to die are being left on the mud.
Cody, you're like the nostradamus of gamestop.
I should go down to an empty gamestop and put a sign up that say .........

@@charlesjenkins5785 Same but I was going to Walmart anyway. If you go on Walmart's site and if the product says "Ship and Sold by Walmart" or something like that then if it's less than the in store price they should match it. I got Fire Emblem Warriors new physical copy for $40.
I wouldn’t give them a dime. Don’t care what they are selling me.
For real. It's the only thing worth going back to those stores for, to get stuff at 50% off
Glad I watch your videos. After you first announced phase 3 I went ahead to my local gamestop and switched all my pre-orders to games that I was getting anyways, but came out before the end of October. So glad I did.

EB Games stores (owned by Gamestop) have started closing in Australia too.
Cody thanks for looking out for these Gamestop employees and customers, your grandma would be so proud right now. That was a very nice tribute, I start tearing up a little
I'm just commenting to say I like the Hammerfall shirt 😎

Am I the only one who's starting to hear Taps playing for GameStop?

I’m a former manager from YEARS ago and I’ve participated in moving reservations to gift cards because a store was closing and my DM(old name for the DLs) commanded a bunch of us to do it. PLEASE go get your unclaimed reservations and don’t let them pocket your money for nothing.
4:16 is my letter haha thanks for shearing
@Frank Marano Thank you Gamestop is failing because the CEOs only care about money
I haven't heard anything like that at my GameStop

Harry Prescott I agree. That's worthy of a video of its own. Pre-orders, unused points etc.
@camelott331, I just called my local Gamestop ( 1105 Walnut St., Cary NC) and just found out they are closing Jan 30, 2020..... Dude, you were right!!

1.4m *mall* location. Similar situation years ago with the district here, but you're definitely going to see more closures in the near future. Just don't guess which ones based on plain revenue. Mall stores are more expensive to operate, expect those ones to go first, on average.
Guess I gotta go cancel my last pre-orders.
Too late, Buddy ... Ya money is gone ...
is that wat it means when camelot said reserves? When ppl buy pre orders?
how much is this?
Never understood why people preorder from Gamestop when you can preorder from Amazon with no money down and the ability to cancel with the click of a button.
If a GameStop closes the preorder will get transferred to the next closest GameStop
If you still work for gamestop love i suggest you watch his videos in secret so they dont fire you. At least keep your job until your store closes
Cody I was not prepared to have those kind of feels at the end. I'm sorry for your loss man. Sending lots of hugs.
This would be a perfect time for Walmart to start a gamer reward system. Start poaching!!
Dont give them ideas lol dam walmart is all over the place. Someone got to take them down a notch
It's the Gamestop hunger games. I like how they suddenly closed stores right after holidays to dodge returns. Got to desperately cling on to what few sales they did get.
Walmart is going cheap on games now. I got death stranding for $50 there for the day it was released.
lol i remember when i was 14-15 a gamestop associate was trying to get me to sign up for a credit card, and i was halfway through the application when my dad came in and got pissed. glad to see that their days are numbered.

Bojo David probably not lmao the guy just wanted to get his numbers up i guess
Yep, the same thing happened to me when I was around 13.
When Game$top is gone you'll have to do a "closed GameStop" tour.
Kinda like Dunkin Donuts in Mooseland.. they closed in the early 2000s and most building are still up.. 15 years later they closed the last 3 "restaurant" in Montreal.
7:28 take the 10K and run !!! If he gets demoted; it’s only a matter of time when the layoff/fire happens.
He would eventually get fired for "time-card fraud" lol
Going to print out a bunch of pages with big font saying “Phase 3 - Initiated” and just head to all my local game stops and hand them to managers.
To employees, not managers, think before you waste your time
We have 3 stores in our town. Two could go without any issues... two are across a parking lot from each other.
Does anybody know if this applies to the EB Games stores in Canada as well? Looking to get some sweet deals before they're gone forever.
I'm also wondering this too lmao
I’ve been wondering that too.
I was just wondering this too because ebgames is under gamestop which is based in. Usa so hmm 🤔, guess time will tell and maybe camelot can give information on if eb games Canada 🇨🇦 is closing too or not
I'm sorry for your loss brother. Your doing great work keep on going!!!
Cept next gen games gonna be digital only.
I think they are doing everything in their power to hang on until then but its not looking good. The blood is in the water and Camelot331 has com to feast

I just hope they end up doing some massive sale so I can increase my retro game collection, especially for the GBA and DS. Then again, after those games shipped with empty plastic cases for those DS games, im pretty damn hesitant to even want to buy from them again, even with a 30% discount or something close to that.

I went to gamestop with a friend last night this explains why the manager there randomly asked us what phones we had lol and gave us price ranges on what we could get
Got all my reserves taken care of. the SA was pretty pissed about how I use my money, I didnt care. :D
William Melton preorders/reserves get transferred to the next closest GameStop.
BoW HitUrGSpot google it. I’ve found multiple sites saying that they are transferred to the next closest GameStop.

There won't be any sales. Anything of actual value will basically be sold at normal price. The stuff that will be marked down is used trash that has sat in their inventory for years. You're not going to get a Switch for 30% off.
I feel like the used inventory will be where the money is at. With how cheap its bought and marked up at. They have the ability to "take a hit" and still make money on each copy.
Stay away from the refurbish game systems their junk mines only lasted two weeks and got the ring of death

Nah. The market changed. More people are buying straight through console, or online and having it shipped.
Their ridiculous pricing also put them under as people started going elsewhere due to it. The fact they sell used games at 1 cent less than new game price is a complete joke.
