A long time ago I read a piece that suggested yawning, in part, may be a non-verbal way of demonstrating that you're non-threatening to others or that you're not looking for confrontation. Perfect time to whip one out if you're bout to steal. And since it's contagious, yawning is a great way to see if someone is checking you out without awkwardly meeting their gaze. If they yawn back, likely they were.

Free tip from someone who has been working in retail for 20 years: When I see a person holding cash in their hand while they are walking around the store, I think you are a thief. That is my first thought. Why would I think someone who has cash is a thief, you ask? Well 'normal' people don't walk around with cash in their hands. If you want to be seen as a thief, walk around the store with cash in your hands.
