    Welcome to Pathfinder 2e Everyone!
    Some clarifications and edits for the video. I will add and update this pinned comment as needed:
    - *Pathfinder Remaster*: Any time I mention the Core Rulebook or the Gamemastery Guide in this video, replace those books with the Player Core and GM Core books respectively.
    - The Secrets of Magic book also includes the Magus and Summoner Class.
    - I incorrectly referred to the Wander's Guide site as the Wayfairer's Guide in the video. My apologies to the folks at the wanderersguide.app for the mistake!
    - If you pick up a physical copy of the rulebook, try and find the most recent printing. But if you pick up an older print version, you can find all the errata and changes here: paizo.com/pathfinder/faq

    Oh man, it wasn’t until this video that I realised just how much I hate AOO in 5e. As soon as you said about how it’s different in P2e it was a lightbulb moment that that combined with the three action thing fixes so much of what frustrates me about 5e combat!

    I really wish Paizo would release a Pathfinder 2.5e in which the level of crunch is reduced to roughly where 5e is, or maybe even slightly less. I love the level of customization via feats and the way the action economy works, but it still feels like there are a few more mechanics to learn upfront than I would like. It's not Shadowrun or anything, but it is still kind of a lot.

    I am always impressed by your excitement and your knowledge of gaming. I have some thoughts about PF2 that I think are important to mention. This comment is regarding the fact that you mentioned when you add your level to your stats you get stronger. This is not necessarily true I have found.
    Pathfinder 2e is designed to scale as you level. Since you add your level to just about everything and the game does the same to monster and other level based opponent/components. This means that at Level 1 you might need a natural 10+ your modifiers to hit a monster that is appropriate to you. This mechanic doesn’t change as you level up.
    Your attack modifier includes your level, and the monsters armor class includes it’s level. So, say you’re level 10, you would still need a natural 10 + your attack modifiers but now you add +10 for your level because the monsters AC includes its level. The numbers get bigger but the dice dynamics don’t change.
    You’re not getting stronger because the entire game scales with you. There is a built in 9 or 10 level range of threat. 4 below and about 5 above your current level. So an enemy that is more than 4 levels below you can’t harm you. Not a million of them. And you can’t threaten or harm an enemy more than 5 or 6 levels above you. You simply can not score a hit mechanically. Ever.
    This has always left me feeling like the game had lost some of its organics. But it is the design. I will say that because of this design, when you create an encounter for PF2 that’s appropriate for the current group level, it’s more often going to be accurate.
    Also, the Gamemastery guide offers the option to not add your level to your stats. It gives some suggestions on how to manage your game doing this. And this is how I run my game so it’s really the best of both worlds. but I do have to say that I disagree that because you’re adding your level you get stronger; you don’t. It’s just scaling the game with a nine level range of PF2s design, and it works.
    One more comment. Combat in PF2 is dynamic, tactical and fun I like the 3 action economy. I could play this game just like a miniatures game for the tactical combat. Combat in PF2 makes you think and gives you choices. I like that.
    Peace and happy gaming.😊

    • @IcarusGames
      @IcarusGames  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're not wrong! When I say "getting stronger" what I really mean is "your numbers get bigger" which is what a lot of folks, in my experience, equate to "getting stronger" in a TTRPG.
      You know, the fighter who would rather another couple points of damage versus a magic weapon with an interesting ability, because more damage = more better!
      But you're spot on about the encounter building in PF2 being pretty damn solid. You throw a severe encounter at the players and it will be a genuine challenge most of the time!

    I know, I know, I know.... just don't do it. It's a world of +2/-2's. It's a complete nightmare for the DM.
    PLUS the characters add their levels to the ability checks so by level 10 they automatically pass every ability check.... it's SOOOOO broken.

    • @IcarusGames
      @IcarusGames  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As someone that has GM'd a level 1-20 PF1 camapgin, a level 1-20 5e campaign, and now plays PF2, I personally find the system to be a dream. I really appreciate having a mechanical backing for everything I need and knowing when I have a question, its almost certainly going to be answered by the rules so that I don't need to hit up the design team on twitter for clarification.
      Characters add their levels to things their are proficient and trained in, that's true, but the DCs also rise by level, so they only automatically pass things that would make sense, otherwise level-appropriate DCs rise alongside character advancement to continue to present challenge.

    • @JacksonOwex
      @JacksonOwex ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't tell if this is satire, a serious concern, or just the standard complaint from NON-Pathfinder players jumping on the hate bandwagon! I will admit, it feels more like satire based on the "...it's SOOOOO broken." part!

    • @Captainpigraven
      @Captainpigraven ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a PF2e forever GM since it’s inception, I’m so confused by the OP’s comment. This system is a dream to run. The mechanics take care of themselves.
      The DCs rise to match the character level increases. There are only a small handful of situations where this does not happen, like Aid. But while Aid becomes very powerful at higher levels, it’s still offset by needing to spend two actions (one on your turn, and your reaction in that round).
      I’m also unsure about the +2/-2 comment. Is this a reference to fluctuating bonuses such as Status and Circumstance bonuses? Because yes, those are a thing. But monster ACs and Saves elevate accordingly, keeping everything balanced as you move up into high level play.
      At higher levels of play when bonuses/penalties increase from +1 to +2 (sometimes +3) it becomes a bit easier to hit on your second attack, sure. But enemies are balanced well enough that it’s fine. More importantly, monsters can be absolutely brutal offensively, so inflicting penalties to their attacks, reducing the amount of actions per turn, and eliminating their reactions all become very important options.

    • @arena_sniper7869
      @arena_sniper7869 ปีที่แล้ว

      The math is mainly there imo to make sure higher level monsters and challenges are actually threatening to lower level players rather than running right through them. For example Assurance only consistently works when you are facing creatures of a lower level than you.
