    Hi Dick, Thank you again for supporting our small business and for creating this wonderful thorough and informative review video about the Shine Turbine! We hear you on the USB-A. The next model of Shine we develop will have USB-C and a higher power output. In addition, we're also planning to develop alternative mounting solutions so folks can generate even more power from the wind. We're glad we were able to get a replacement mount and bag to you. Thanks again and Shine on! 🌬🔋

      Thanks for the comment, we were actually discussing how a taller pole would get it up into the wind more which would be nice (and safer for kiddos). Afterward one of my fellow creators commented below about USB-C (Mankitchenrecipes below) who might be interesting to chat with. Best of luck and I am always happy to give my opinion on items I can test!

    I've just learned about this unit...the second version is now in preorder..
    I think i'd rather have a portable water turbine charger though. Very rarely will anyone out camping choose the windy spot over a more wind protected one. But everyone would choose to be nearer water if possible.
    Have you used it much though since ?

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree it is a niche product but when you are in areas where you can set it up (perhaps a bit aways from a protected campsite) it does work as designed.

    I like the idea of having a wind generator to pair up with a solar panel. You never know if it is going to be sunny but not that windy, or windy but not sunny when you’re out camping or just outdoors. Plus it could help in a blackout. I think I would prefer a straight forward generator without the built in battery. ✌️🇺🇸

      While I would certainly never use this as my sole source of energy when it works for your location it is helpful keeping the draw down on your vehicle.

    Well, this looks like a great idea, Dick. But like you said, I personally wouldn't want to camp in windy conditions. Although, it may be great weather with a day of wind, which would be the day to charge it. That stake tip definitely needs to be attached. The USB-a makes sense since most charging cables are usb-a to usb- c or to an Apple product. I work in the PC repair industry, and usc-c ports go bad all the time... (keeps me busy replacing them) so I'm curious about the warranty. Also that mounting pole doesn't appear to be very sturdy? It may be, but it doesn't look like it. It is a good idea, but it seems like it's a self charging, charging brick?

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is great information as I was not aware of the USB C reliability issues! The pole was likely a trade off in that it might benefit from being sturdier as you lose some efficiency if the pole is moving but, on the other hand, a sturdier pole would likely mean more weight which would not be great for those carrying it so I expect it was a trade off.
      I concur it is a self charging power brick which I think is a great idea!
      Have a great weekend.

    Alternative energy is just that, alternative, and not fully sustainable. Nothing beats fire! I do like that it is all in one. You answered all the questions I had. I like it, but not sure if the cost is worth it's benefit? Kind of like how the old VHS players that once cost a thousand dollars, and today a DVD player can be purchased for about 20 dollars.

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you are right, this is an addition to, not the sole device to keep items charge when remote. The safest bet is to run the engine and use the alternator but that consumes your fuel so when/if you can use wind or solar you would definitely do it. I agree the cost/benefit will change over time if this product is successful. Have a great one.

    Dick, an interesting product. Not sure it would be practical for me. Three Iphone charges on one battery seems pretty lackluster. Cost is high for what it yields, in my opinion. Brutal that the elastic part is fraying already too.

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yep, as a battery pack there are much cheaper and larger versions for less money, no doubt. I think the concept of the self regeneration is what intrigued me about it which other banks lack (and the solar banks don't generate much at all).
      If you have space and can carry a large battery pack like our 700w Bluetti and keep that charged it makes more sense. But if you are base camped for a period of time and can set this up and let it rip I think it makes sense.
      As to the part I will say (after the video was made) they were awesome in the customer service area and are replacing both the pole and the bag. I plan on JB Welding the end into the new pole and calling it a day.

    Nice idea but requiring 28 mph winds to get to 40watts charging capacity makes it non viable for a lot of people I would think.
    I live in the outskirts of North London UK and it’s higher than most of the surrounding area and I just checked the Met office weather app and the wind is average 14mph with gusts at 26 mph, this is a relatively windy day for this area.
    For mountain use it could good but who would be lugging 1.5 kilos of wind turbine up a hill with no guarantee of any power being produced.

      Thanks for checking out the channel and taking the time to comment.
      There is no doubt that it is wind dependent and you are probably right that a lightweight hiker would have to think hard about it. If, on the other hand, you were going to be out and remote for a period of time (hunting/overlanding/canoe/etc.) and you were carrying gear like an In Reach this (IMHO) would be a great tool to have on hand to generate and top off when you could knowing that it is wind dependent. Don't forget it does generate power below 28MPH, just not the full 40 watts.
      I think the same goes for a solar panel (no guarantee of sunshine) but Shine has the advantage of the 12 amp hour battery pack so power could is banked for the times you need it.
      Not saying you are wrong and the reason I gave it a qualified yes in the video as I don't think it fits every use scenario.

      @@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 I hope future versions can work with a lower wind speed, I would definitely get something like this as an alternative to solar.

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SnowyAspenHills Here are the wind speeds and wattage estimated, I will add this to the description-
      0-12 MPH 0-3 W
      12-22 MPH 3-15 W
      22-28 MPH 15-40 W
      So it is generating at the lower wind speeds, just not very much until you get a stiffer breeze. But once set up it can spin all day.

    • @MotorizedBicycleRace
      @MotorizedBicycleRace 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      there is no power to be generated in wind speeds under 9 mph no matter what kind of turbine you have.
      Wind power technology has been around for a long time with that 9 mph wind speed limitation.
      Just like solar panels will never produce power in the few hours after sunrise or before sunset.

    • @MotorizedBicycleRace
      @MotorizedBicycleRace 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Should read 9 to 12 mph as there is no power generated in 0 to 8 mph wind even if the blades spin. @@dickinaroundoutdoors8609

    Buy one or two or three high capacity power banks with USB C for power on hiking trips.
    Much more Ah, cheaper, smaller and less weight than carrying a Shine wind turbine.
    If you are hiking during the day you can not use a wind turbine and who wants to camp overnight in a windy location.
    The shine turbine is an expensive and impractical toy.
    If you are car camping then why do you need a 12Ah wind turbine?

    • @dickinaroundoutdoors8609
      @dickinaroundoutdoors8609  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      As mentioned I certainly think it has limitations and there are alternatives for sure. For car camping, depending on what your definition of that is, one might find it happy if they are base camped somewhere for multiple days, some might find it frivolous, same with solar power.
      I found the concept intriguing when I first saw it and thought I would give it a try.

      If car camping buy and carry a 12V 100Ah LFP for about $250 now.
      Yep that's 100Ah as compared to Shines tiny 12Ah battery.
      I run my 12V 45L fridge for days on that battery.
      Your review is the first real life shine review after being sold for years.
      All the other Shine videos are fluff PR type info with no real life use. @@dickinaroundoutdoors8609

    The spike tip on the pole looked good on paper!
    Or on the computer screen! lol
    That’s one of those typical Pointdexter engineering mistakes!
    Why can’t designing things design something without screwing up?
    This whole wind turbine idea is ridiculous just like solar ridiculous!
    If I wanted to recharge my campers system, Boondocking, I would have to wait for a windy day. My luck I wouldn’t have any wind at all during my vacation.
    I’m not going to count on wind or sunshine to charge anything I’m going to start up my 2000 W Yamaha generator.
    Anything green is total BS!
    Can 50 to 80 years they’ll probably have fusion Honda and Yamaha generators for Boondocking!!!
    Our lifetime though that’s the sad thing fusion nuclear energy is just around the corner!
    Fusion nuclear energy energy would change everything!!!
    I’ll see it for you. This turbine kit is grossly overpriced for what it does.

      not everyone takes a house on wheels when camping as the idea of camping is to get away from the regular.

      what the point of getting out into nature and sitting listening to a bloody generator.
