I haven’t told anyone But I’ve been having such a hard time with Life lately, and I want to thank you for being the light in my life, these videos definitely give me hope and help me get through this time, and it’s all thanks to you for my recovery, take care of yourself my friend you’re really changing my life and I’m so grateful for you! Much love brother
One of the best things you do is give us latest builds already finished. I don't have the 5K FRTP, but will download the build. Now I can finally see what I can record in 4K. Thanks so much Zeek.
I unfortunately couldn't get your build and dannes build working since 5K frtp was broken (black screen) and couldn't record more than a few seconds. (red color). I use a sony tough 270 mbps and the build I got working without doing anything at all was the August Build. That build I could record and its all green.
Zeek, I had just started hunting for a good second hand 5D Mark III to get going with MagicLantern when I stumbled upon your tutorials. So, instead of one 5D, I bought a couple of EOS M's and your cage equipment. I like the simple, reasonable cost yet high quality approach of these videos and can't wait to receive my cameras to follow along. A very big THANK YOU from a Paris RAW enthusiast. I give you five stars or a triple A or whatever else is highest. Keep on RAWing and safe.
@@ZeekEOSZ right now man...There is a shop called CEX and they are all sold out...been like that for a while....I really do think in like a year . Danne will have figured so much stuff with that little camera. And people will know about this camera
@@rollbeats7342 I can confirm this scarcity. I was very lucky today in getting two used ones in excellent shape from mbp.com in the UK and a new demo model from Japan.

Zeek: "Longtime listener, first time caller..." I like your stuff, I watch all of your EOS-M videos. In the past 2-3 years you've inspired me to purchase 2 EOSM's and play around with different lenses, adapters & settings, having fun so far. I tested the firmware from this video and I noticed that all of the presets, except 1080p, (when using a lens with auto-focus) result in corrupt previews and/or frozen images, so far I've tested with: EF-M 50mm, EF-S 18-135mm, EFS-10-18mm with Viltrox EF-EOS M adapter AND Viltrox EF-EOS 0.71x Speed Booster (which may be part of the problem since I see you use Metabones Speed Booster) and they all experience the same issues. I saw a previous comment where you suggested searching around or "shutter bug", do you have more info? Turning off auto-focus seems to work for now and I rarely use AF so it's not a big deal. Thanks for what you do and greetings from New York, NY, US.
Thank you🙌 I haven't experienced this yet, however, I'm about to release a video with the latest build and settings and reckon that this newer build should fix these issues. 😎👍
Wow, I was just about to comment on your anamorphic video that you should check out the latest FRTP modes in the latest build, and BAM, you already have a video out. Awesome stuff, thanks for being a great teacher! This camera is now ticking all the boxes.
I'M SOOO HAPPYYY!!! I downloaded your files and I tested the 5K FTRP mode and it works!!! much gratitude to youuu my friend! (my new sd card sandisk 170mb/s works perfectly!)
No problem 👍 check my latest video settings for the Eos m even better, Its the second latest one. Congrats! 🎥, I bought another one the other day for a good price too. Can't go wrong with these haha.
Hello Zeek! I'm interested to get an Eos M but I have a few question.. You say the crop mode of the 5K frtp mode is 2x.. Is it two times from full frame 35mm? Which mean the crop factor is pretty much the same as a micro 4/3 cameras? Or is it 2 times from canon APSC, which means the crop factor from 35mm ff is 3.2x? Second question: did the 5K frtp mode have a 4:3 aspect ratio? I want to emulate Super 8 film cameras,, ability to crop in-camera would be very useful.. I hope you understand my questions as English isn't my first language.. Thank you a lot!
Thank you Zeek for your good quality videos about Canon eos M! I am re in love with my +7years old canon eos because of your cool videos. It is really incredibly cool things you can do with this old cheap camera and the video quality is still very nice (if you know what to do). I paid 220€ for my new Canon eos M 7 years ago. Also a big thank you for your custom version of Magic Lantern !
This is very helpful, your depth of understanding of user interfaces, and your ability to present the subject in such an interesting way. I appreciated your approach to anticipating users' intents. I plan to learn more using my EOS M. :)
Hey Zeek, I've got a small question. In de 1080p mode, the resolution of the footage is 1736 x 976. What do you do with this format? What i mean by that it is a bit of a odd format. Do you scale it down to HD format -> 1280 x 720 or do you scale it up to Full HD 1920 x 1080 and use black bars on your footage? If you scale it up to FUll HD, are you not getting "quality" issues?
Upscale it. It's raw, so a lot of information there. Upscaling to 3840x2160, the quality is very nice. If you were upscaling h.264 it would be a different story.
@@ZeekEOSZ Wow, scale to 4k! Oke cool. Thanks for your reply. And you should really finish your short movie. I saw it on your other clip. It looks really nice and has a very cinematic feel.
@@shaiy9480 yep no problem. Check my TH-cam playlist for Raw editing. In one of them I have free .MLV Raw files to download. Yeah, haha, that short film had no script or anything. Just went with the flow from whatever came in my head lol 🤣
Hi Zeek. It’s been a while since I haven’t checked out your channel. I have some catching up to do. So many new things! Nice new intro it’s funky :). Something I that I noticed, do you know if the 10bit & 12bit modes are lossless or uncompressed? I actually want to test a new post workflow and I would need the uncompressed format.
Zeek I know they are both similar. It’s just that I believe ffmpeg can read video straight from mlv files coming out of the camera when it’s uncompressed. I find the workflow to be faster if I can preview the clips using ffmpeg si I was just wondering how to use the old uncompressed way.
I use 2.5K/2.8K pretty much always. If I need a wider field of view, more light or shallower depth of field, then I'll make a switch. 5K FRTP is like a standard mode with reduced aliasing compared to 1080 mode, so it's like a cleaner alternative although it has a 2x crop in comparison to the 1.6x crop in the 1080 mode.
Hello Zeek! Thank you so much for putting this together. It’s really helpful! I recently got the M inspired by you but im noticing heavy moire on the edges of objects and people. At first i thought it was a lens issue but after trying several other lenses, I concluded that it’s the body / sensor that produces that. Are you experiencing the same thing or is it just my body? Do you have any solutions for that?
Nice work as always Zeek. I have a few questions: In 5K FRTP Mode what are the 4 "arrows in boxes" symbols that appear in the LCD for? Also... I have a constant flicker that appears in the lower arrow/box symbol. I didn't notice a flicker in yours during your video. Any ideas what it is or how to stop it?
The 4 arrows in boxes is purely Canon's implementation, quite difficult to remove, if even possible. If you are set to 16:9, there should be little Flicker. In Tab two, you can enable Aspect Ratio overlays for 16:9, 2.35:1 etc. The lower arrow, may still have little Flicker. But that's okay, things should get better for the M.
Great Stuff! I recently got an EOS M, and looking forward to using it. So I installed Magic Lantern and downloaded your settings. Does that unzipped folder also go on the card? If I already started fiddling around with settings from your video will they be written over?
No unzipped file in the card. Just the ML Folder and the two other files inside the zipped folder go on the card. 👌 In the 6th/7th tab, you can reset all settings (ML Configuration).
No problem! This is a newer settings video with crops explained, installation and all the settings and grading etc.. th-cam.com/video/MiUaR0FfUXQ/w-d-xo.html
Another awesome video mate! Just curious though, with 5K Anamorphic FRTP Mode what are the frames you are able to get at 16:9? I'm only averaging around 60 frames but when I saw your video "The Country Side" looked like your shots were at least 5 seconds. Is that down to the memory card I'm using being rubbish? ;)
Cheers! 5K FRTP is continuous. Just enable 10 bit instead of bitdepth turned to off. The quickest and probably the easiest way to set this mode is to tap the EOS M Liveview, then select the 5K FRTP Preset. From there just change your Aspect Ratio if required.
Hi zeek, great video as usual. I have a question I'm creating unit of 5 cameras cameras. Now among them I have a 800D. Should I install magic lantern for that camera?
@@ZeekEOSZ thank you so much. I think you understood my requirements. I'm worried about different colours profile from different camera. I will go for ML. And also it is never been so easy before. You made it walk in the park.
Both are explained in the vid, 5K FRTP has about 2x crop, it has 1x3 Binning compared to 3x3 with the 1080 Mode which has more apparent Aliasing, artefacts & Moiree. 5K FRTP is cleaner, also works well with Monitors.
Zeek... you've mentioned using False Color in a few videos. Is there a way to toggle False Color on and off without going into the menu? (ie: with a button setting?) False Color is handy but I don't see how to turn it off once I'm done analyzing exposure. Thanks for any help!
False colour is in tab 2. You can Change LV presets in tab 7, enable flase colour in LV 1, press info, then disable it in LV 2. I talked about this in my 3rd last EOS M Settings video, the Red EOS M.
Hey Zeek, thanks for this. My dad just gave me his old EOS M which he used for photography so I'm still learning the ropes for videography and your channel has been a big help getting me up to speed with it. I tried installing your ML builds into my EOS M. The 1080 build works fine but in my case, anything above 1080 is unrecordable. I just see red waves in my view finder. I'm using a SanDisk Extreme SD card. It has the same write speed as the Pro so I don't think it's the problem. Do you think I missed something? I'm still pretty new to this so I'm sorry if I just didn't understand something you said in your video.
No problem. I'll try to update the build to this video and will notify in the Community Post. Everything should be working. Set custom modes to OFF in Tab 3. Then in Liveview, tap the screen and select any preset you want e.g. 2.5K. Then check the aspect ratio you want, resolution and then set 10 bit for high resolution modes. 😎👍
Hi Zeek! If I want at least 1080p raw footage from scratch, which used camera choice do you recommend? EOS m or 5DMARK2? For balance of photo and video. Thanks!
I would recommend the EOS M + Speedbooster. Compared the two cameras here: th-cam.com/video/KE4SEqmuNqU/w-d-xo.html The EOS M is more modern and it's constantly improving with ML.
Hey just a little question. First of all thanks for all the work you're putting into educating us on the Magic Lantern build. I really appreciate your content and your footage too. So big thanks you! About my question... when I'm using this FRTP mod I've got some nasty little red and white dots all over my picture, actually trhis also happen in the 2.5k mod as well. I remeber, before you could add a whole bunch of files, the Focus pixel map files into MLV app to fix that issue, and then export to your prefer format. Anyways when using Davinci resolve DNG raw, you can't benefit from that anymore (at least I think). So I'm kinda stuck with some footage with thos little red/white dots and can't really use them. Do you know what I mean by those? Thanks a lot for your help, if you have any time!
No worries! Check my pinned comment, it will have the link for the focus pixel maps you load into MLV app. I don't get those dots in my DNG's anymore. The quick way is enabling 3x3 chroma smooth in MLV App, but quality can be taxed.
Thanks for all your research into the EOS M . Do you perhaps know how to get focus peaking working in video mode? is it an option, or do i need to look at another camera? i just cant get in focus without it, and i shoot video with manual lenses
What settings can you recommend to set up the EOS M for a vintage 8mm look? I know the fps use to be 18fps ans that is possible in ML to override the fps but what color settings would you recommend and perhaps some resolution settings to set up the camera to film like an old 8mm cam?
I can recommend the 3K Raw Mode which shoots exactly 18fps, or the 5K FLV Mode which also shoots around that fps. If you want 4:3, then the 2.5K Mode set to 4:3. 10/14 bit is fine. The lens will make the difference in the overall look. But it's great stuff 👌
Hey Zeek, really loving these builds and the content you are putting out here! did you try external monitors with this build yet? I can't get mine to work (andycine 4k) the live view just freezes up in what ever mode I am in. accept on photo mode. any idea's?
Great to hear 👍 I tested monitor use with the previous build, worked well in the 5K FRTP. I'm not near my EOS M now but when I get home I'll give it a test with my monitors and see 👍
previous builds were fine especially when overlays are clear with recording (accept 48fps mode) but on this one its giving me a really hard time. Thanks for the reply, cheers!
Just checked it, yes I notice that it's fine when recording etc...it works in all modes. But once you exit the mL Menu with a monitor, it freezes. I'll probably state it in the EOS ML Forum.
Hello Zeek, I got myself some EOS-M's for some upcoming projects I'm looking to record, but wanted to ask: Does Magic Lantern work for live streaming? Was a thought and was curious if you knew if it would work?
Yes Magic lantern can work for Live Stream from what others have experienced, although i've never tried it myself. With Magic lantern you can "Clear Overlay" to get clean HDMI Out.
In your opinion, is 100 the native ISO for this camera? Tried several settings in various outdoors conditions - and noise quickly crops up when raising sensitivity - at 800 it's already quite bad. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or the sensor has two base ISOs, like the BlackMagic or Sonys? Great videos btw - love your filming on all cameras, not just the EOS M!
Yes ISO 100 is the best on this Camera. Using a Fast Aperture lens + Speedbooster will help a tone. Also, denoiser in Davinci or other software when needed in specific clips.
Check the review on dxomark.com ; basicly they show that the sensor has the same dynamic range at 100 and 160 iso, after that it goes downhill ( graphs ) but the color sensitivity is best only at iso 100.
Dear brother, from India!, all the electronics are very costlier... Need your help choosing a camera focused on video! Which one would you recommend?? 4k60p would be awesome, atleast need 1080k60p.... Looking at canon eos m, canon m50, Panasonic g7.. need your other suggestions... Thanks a lot!! Much love from India!
I got a quick question about the 1080p & 5k frtp I suffer from heavy aliasing and color noise on hard edges that make the footage look really bad. I can only use the 2.5k - 3k modes to get less aliasing. How come your 1080p looks so good? My work flow: - I import the footage to MLV - Select Alexa Log-C & Alexa Wide Gamut RGB presets - add sharpening to 50 (but even when I don't footage is still bad). - export to prores 4444 or DNG Lossless - Apply Alexa Log-C luts from davinci. Is there some camera setting or MLV settings that I should use to alleviate the problem?
I haven't shot with 1080 mode in ages. Shooting wide open helps. Nowadays, I shoot mainly with the 2.5K FRTP Mode which I go through in my latest video. I use wide lenses like 10-17mm range, some with IS. The Kit lens 15-45 IS, 18-55mm IS are good lenses with stabilisation and help when shooting high resolution modes.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks for the quick response! Yeah, I kind of figure that out myself. That's why all of my recent videos were all shot in 2.5k-2.8k. I get great results in those resolutions. Thanks for the suggestion of using wide angle lenses. I have an a eye on the 11-22mm stm for the compactness, light weight and native support. I feel like shelling out money on an adapter + a lens = about the same $$$ for a used 11-22mm stm ($270 here in Japan). I got the 15-45mm for $70 and the eos m body for $100. I don't want to spend too much on it right now. So, for now I'll just stick with tight shots. 😉 If you wouldn't mind taking a little time and checking out the results I got so far. I would appreciate a lot.
@@jpr-tech I still have the 11-22 IS. The thing is you won't notice much of a difference between the 11-22 and 15-45, as they look very similar, if not the same. The 11mm of course helps get that wider fov, but optics look close to identical. I watched your video btw, great cinematic shots! Looks like you're getting the hang of it. Keep it up!
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks for the valuable info! So 2.5k at 11mm is not much wider than the 15mm at 2.5k?! I don't care much about sharpness, I care more about Focus View. For example, if I wanted to capture a large building. Maybe you are right... 14mm wider might not be much wider. Perhaps a manual lens like a Samyang 12mmf2 is a better option? But then again 12mm vs 15mm... I think I see your point! BTW, have you shot with a fisheye lens such as the 7artisans 8mm or 10mm??? I wonder if this might sell the UWL view...
Great Video! What are the timie limitation of recording RAW in full hd? I have canon 60d with Magic Lantern and it's about 8seconds. How it is with EOS M?
so... I want to make sure I'm understanding correctly since I now have my EOS M and have been following all instructions. The 1080 mode allows for the standard crop but one gets aliasing and artifacts. All other modes reduce this but you have 5x crop. Is that right? How have you been setting up your shoots? Have you been standing like, 20 feet away this whole time? 🤔😅
it's not 5x crop. Every crop mode has it's own crop, e.g. 5K FRTP has a 2x Crop, 2.8K has a 2.96x Crop, 2.5K has a 3.1x Crop or so etc... I use wide lenses like Canon 10-18mm with the speedbooster, or the Canon 18-135mm, Canon FD 28/35mm, Zeiss 20mm etc...
@@ZeekEOSZ okay thanks. The only info the build gives me is a "5x" so wasn't sure. This is going to take a lot of practice and experimenting. It doesn't play nice with my kit lens or 22mm stm. Everything keeps freezing and other weirdness. So I'm stuck with my viltrox manual lenses atm whilst I learn and experiment
For you, I'd stick with the 1080 mode & 2.5k modes for now until you ge thte hang of it. Then explore 5K FRTP & 2.8K. I have a playlist on the channel of all the settings for the EOS M. This video has a good, simple build: th-cam.com/video/qZdFMugGb5o/w-d-xo.html
@@ZeekEOSZ I could but unfortunately, the 1080 mode is broken for external monitor support. So, I can't use it even if it didn't have aliasing and artifacts. The M2 does 1080 mode and seems stable enough though. Good thing too since that's the only option! lol 2.5k mode is 3.1x crop which is extremely limiting. My 22mm stm becomes 68mm :( But ML is unstable with the 22mm and kit lens so it seems it's not supported? I'll have to test more. Even the wide-angle of the kit lens would become 46.5mm but the aperture is so slow that I worry how useful it would be but the brightest of days. I just tested the kit lens to be sure and it looks like auto-focus is broken. More issues to figure out. Finally, I can't get more than a couple of seconds (max) recording no matter the lens and settings. (Yes, I got your recommended SD card) I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I’m having some real issues getting magic lantern to work on my EOS M. I can install, boot and run it without issues but whenever I try to film 1080p raw it’s at 12fps when I view it in the playback section and in mlv app. My camera is set at 24fps and 1/50 shutter speed. I tried using several different Magic Lantern builds but they all produced the same results. I am using a SanDisk extreme pro 170mbps card so the sd card isn’t the issue. I’m not sure what’s wrong. Love the videos though. Thank you.
It will be choppy due to the fact it's raw capture straight from the sensor and goes through frame by frame even in MLV App. The best solution I have found is to MLV App minimize the screen to a smaller box which will actually help speed up the frame rate. :)
Awesome video Zeek, your videos set the golden standard for setting up this amazing camera, I always come back to your videos to check my settings and experimenting without getting lost in the menus. Must mention it also helps me with my 700D settings, both have same processor, sensor and developed to the same level thanks to 'theBilalFakhouri' the 700D can write to the SD card at 240mhz without any problems and has all the advantages for real time viewing, flip out and twist screen plus eye-level finder to set focus (SLR), a lot has been added by 'theBilalFakhouri' to make the 700D a super body to use at it uses all the same lenses as my EOSm and 5D MKII, but I love small size and simplicity of the EOS M and with your tutorials a joy to use, looking forward to your next video, thanks Zeek
Great to hear! It's cool that the 700D is leveling up with ML, nice Flip Screen too, and the 240Hz patch is Gold! I can get more than 8 Minutes 2.8K Raw 2.35:1. Enjoy! 💯🎥
Hi @Zeek! I noticed that when you press the MENU button, your EOS M still displays the "Q Screen" with all of the settings through the EOS software (without ML, you'd get to this screen by pressing INFO a couple times). Mine shows up in 2.5K RAW but not in 1080P HD. How do I re-enable this screen in all modes so I can quickly adjust temp, aper, audio, etc?
Uninstall ML if you can and then format the card. Check my latest video for the latest settings. The build is in the description. I have never experienced this red filter before. If your on 30fps, make sure you change it to 24fps.

Hey Zeek, did you notice the 5k FRTP mode has a tremendous rolling shutter issue? Unusable mode for moving objects or panning the camera. Do you know how to fix that?
I normally use wide lenses with that mode like10/12mm so I probably haven't noticed it. If you're going to use 50mm, then it may be quite obvious. I'll test it out again with a 35/50mm and see. I used the kit 18-55 and shot at 18mm in 5K FRTP as a test vlog the other day, and didn't notice the rolling shutter.

Can you help me ?, I follow your video and do your steps but I can't. forgive me for my questions! Thank you very much for your time!!
Thank you Zeek! I just purchased the OES M and installed your build. Currently shooting in 2.5k mode. I have a question of focus/auto. When I turn on the camera, the display setting shows x5 and when I pre-press the shutter buttom to pre-focus, it gives me the regular view and Im able to focus but then the screen freezes and I press the set buttom and takes me to the x10 view and then I pre-press the shutter buttom and takes me back to the x5 view working correctly. Is this the correct way to focus? Thanks!
Another question, is it possible to do slow mo 46fps in 2.5k? I was just playing with the settings and only saw the 1080 preset 30/46/38 fps , if I select it the screen only shows 1080p 38fps . Thank you!
In customised buttons, tab 3 bottom, disable the half shutter function for zoom. As for 46fps this is only possible in the Mv1080 High FPS Preset. Enable set 25fps tab 3 and I also use ratio 2.35:1.
thanks for the big update! this new 5k mode is the first one I think is a legit option for paid or higher end work :) any idea what the crop factor is for the 5k frtp?
Thank you very much. I get a lot of color noise even in 1080fhd. Iso 100, ss 1/48, under the sun, it's like a chromaticity? Can I have it corrected? I'm sorry for my poor English.
You need a good fast lens and more importantly expose correctly. You can't save everything in the frame. If your try to save the highlights you may damage the shadows. Sometimes you need to make sacrifices due to the dynamic range of the camera. Best practice is to check your false colour, histogram or waveform monitor. Use zebras 100% and check exposure value is between 1-0.1
Thank you for your answer. I understand that very well. The image quality is very bad, and there's color noise like the pixel's broken. Did I set it up wrong?
Hi Zeek, I have fallen into the temptation to buy a canon m !, from today a new sub-writer of your channel and willing to learn from your advice!. Where can I find the link to download the latest version of magic lantern for the proper functioning of my M?
Not sharper than 2.8K, better FOV, less crop, about 2x crop factor, compared to 2.98x. It's about as good as HD Raw, bit with a reduction in Aliasing and artefacts. It's cleaner than the 1080 Mode, also works well with Monitors.

hey Zeek I got heavy flickering in dual iso mode (but only on a few clips only) is it because of low shutterspeed? or what ? I cannot determine what is the cause of this flicker. I sometimes shoot at very dark conditions (after the sunset) and I go 1/30s and dual iso mode (usually iso 100-800) or 400-1600 to get the very details in the beautiful sky and clouds. Unfortunatelly it's like 4 out of 10 dual iso clips on my shooting day have flickering. strangely not all have it even thou they where shoot at presumably the same settings. I was also considering if 10bit or 12bit might be involved in this. I noticed this flicker occur before export even if I skip 1 frame after another in preview window. - Dark levels seems are the same in all frames (some people suggested exifinfotool)
@@ZeekEOSZ i have to agree. It is worth sometimes as dualiso has less noise and often greater dr. But sadily its not reliable and you cannot easly.review the footage to check if flicker occured. I will stick to normal 2.5/ 2.8k mode. I also found that 1080p mode mcm also have some color difference and its not as clean as 2.5 or 2.8k modes that I most often use. Especially.in low light. Maybe I need some more practise or use 14bit instead of 12. All in all thanks for the tip Zeek! Its better to have workable footage than unrecoverable flickering with a bit better dr (not a huge deal) Youre always helpfull. Btw i got into the fb forum recently and your gropu as well. Will be posting some cool footage and stuff soon.
Hi Zeek, thanks for the video. I installed ML, in 1080p I get a pink pixel. It is not present when ML is not used, for example in photo mode. Have you had this issue? Thanks!
@@ZeekEOSZ it looks like a dead pixel, little pink dot that appears on the LCD (and is also present in all the recorded footage in the same place throughout) when Magic Lantern is installed, and is not present when the camera works in its original (no ML) configuration.
@@edwardsmya6201 could you possibly screenshot to my Instagram/Facebook? I've never experienced this before. Maybe in MLV App applying the Fix Dead Pixel will hopefully help 👍
Honestly, both are really really good! Both are really special for photography, I would easily go with either no issue there. The EOS M would have the upper hand with DOF and Lowlight, the GH1 with the Flip screen. GH1 Crop could help for wildlife though. So, depends what your needs are, both will take tremendous photos.
I've heard that I can use magic lantern with my M100. Only thing that I want to be able to do is to shoot video continuosly without it cutting out at 29.59min mark. Can magic lantern enable that? Cheers 😊

Hi Zeek in the 5K Anamorphic FRTP Mode would will it be ok for constant monitoring on my Timbrecod monitor DC-56 4K Have tried 2K 1:1 Preset but it loses its signal less than a min .
HDMI in general can be difficult with monitors. When it goes black reset the camera in 2K Mode. Other modes can be hit and miss, the 2K one is what worked the best. But the best thing to do is test the modes.
It's unfortunately the latest build that does this, I have the build in this video on another SD Card for Monitor use, this build works just not the latest: th-cam.com/video/qZdFMugGb5o/w-d-xo.html K tried fixing it today, I may have to let the Developers know about this and see what the bug in the latest build.
How do you do to really shoot with this camera in 2.8k mode if you can't really see what you get? The on-screen 5x zoom is pretty difficult to manage with...
I show later in this video what I do in those modes: th-cam.com/video/-Ayz_rlniVk/w-d-xo.html Focus with live view, record with framing mode enabled, if subject is moving, I use the normal cropped LV.

Hey Zeek,
I've got a small question. In de 1080p mode, the resolution of the footage is 1736 x 976. What do you do with
this format?

Something I that I noticed, do you know if the 10bit & 12bit modes are lossless or uncompressed? I actually want to test a new post workflow and I would need the uncompressed format.
Hey, they are lossless, however there is no difference between the uncompressed apart from size.
Zeek I know they are both similar. It’s just that I believe ffmpeg can read video straight from mlv files coming out of the camera when it’s uncompressed. I find the workflow to be faster if I can preview the clips using ffmpeg si I was just wondering how to use the old uncompressed way.

You may have already explained in a previous video but could you summarize when you like to use each recording mode between 5K FRTP, 2.5K and 2.8K?
I use 2.5K/2.8K pretty much always. If I need a wider field of view, more light or shallower depth of field, then I'll make a switch. 5K FRTP is like a standard mode with reduced aliasing compared to 1080 mode, so it's like a cleaner alternative although it has a 2x crop in comparison to the 1.6x crop in the 1080 mode.
Thanks for all your amazing videos. Do you apply any sharpening in post to your 5k frtp videos?
No worries 👍 No sharpen was added at all. 😉🎥
It usually happens most in the1080 mode as it's 3x3 Binning. Results should be better in the other modes E
G. 2.5/2.8K or 5K FRTP
@@ZeekEOSZ ah i see. I'll try those settings! thanks for your help!!
In the 6th/7th tab, you can reset all settings (ML Configuration).

@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks a lot for the quick reply, Im gonna try that asap! Have a good day!

Great 👍
Thanks for all your research into the EOS M . Do you perhaps know how to get focus peaking working in video mode? is it an option, or do i need to look at another camera? i just cant get in focus without it, and i shoot video with manual lenses
You can enable LV Digic Peaking in the ML Display Tab. Focus peaking doesn't work that well.
I can't get mine to work (andycine 4k) the live view just freezes up in what ever mode I am in. accept on photo mode. any idea's?
Great to hear 👍
I tested monitor use with the previous build, worked well in the 5K FRTP.
Super super usefull , thank you zeek !
No worries 😎👍
Check the review on dxomark.com ; basicly they show that the sensor has the same dynamic range at 100 and 160 iso, after that it goes downhill ( graphs ) but the color sensitivity is best only at iso 100.
this is perfect thanks for answaring my resize question on resolve i did on this video !!!!

Dear brother,
from India!, all the electronics are very costlier...
Need your help choosing a camera focused on video! Which one would you recommend?? 4k60p would be awesome, atleast need 1080k60p....
Looking at canon eos m, canon m50, Panasonic g7.. need your other suggestions...
Thanks a lot!! Much love from India!
The Panasonic G7 is a good option for cheap 4K, or G85, Sony A6300, Fujifilm X-t20. For 4K 60, the cheapest I think is the Fujifilm X-T3.
Zeek thank you bro!
I got a quick question about the 1080p & 5k frtp I suffer from heavy aliasing and color noise on hard edges that make the footage look really bad.
I can only use the 2.5k - 3k modes to get less aliasing. How come your 1080p looks so good?
My work flow:
- I import the footage to MLV
- Select Alexa Log-C & Alexa Wide Gamut RGB presets
- add sharpening to 50 (but even when I don't footage is still bad).
- export to prores 4444 or DNG Lossless
- Apply Alexa Log-C luts from davinci.
If you wouldn't mind taking a little time and checking out the results I got so far.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks to you and the EOS M community we are really pushing these little cameras way passed their advertised specs!
Great Video! What are the timie limitation of recording RAW in full hd? I have canon 60d with Magic Lantern and it's about 8seconds. How it is with EOS M?

@@ZeekEOSZWait... but you do not mean continous recording with 1736x1120?
@@erwinjeneralczyk9 1736x1156, yes continuous, thanks to 10 Bit.
@@ZeekEOSZ Wow, that's creazy. Thank you :)
This video has a good, simple build:
th-cam.com/video/qZdFMugGb5o/w-d-xo.html
@@ZeekEOSZ I could but unfortunately, the 1080 mode is broken for external monitor support. So, I can't use it even if it didn't have aliasing and artifacts. The M2 does 1080 mode and seems stable enough though. Good thing too since that's the only option! lol
2.5k mode is 3.1x crop which is extremely limiting.
Looks like another hour of research and experimenting is in order
Yikes. I'm taking over the comments. Sorry all! But I hope this info is helpful for you too :D
@@beaudanner
Ensure 10 bit is enabled for more record time. 2.5K 2.35:1 should be about continuous. If you don't need sound, disable that as that helps too.
The build in this video works well with the Eos m and monitors,
www.google.com/search?q=canon+eos+m+settings&oq=canon+eos+m+settings&aqs=chrome..69i57j35i39l2j69i60l2.5041j0j4&client=ms-android-samsung-gs-rev1&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#
But in general, you might get dropped frames, especially with higher resolution modes. The M2 is good with monitors. In the latest video, I used the 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 Kit, footage came out great. With the hack you can mount a speedbooster. Personally I'm not a fan of the Eos m kit lenses, the quality I've noticed is very poorly. I'd rather vintage glass. The 7Artisans 12mm is a nice lens for sure.
I found your channel and u doing great job :) Have Canon 650D but thinking to buy EOS M. What u think what lens at the beginning is best for daily using, vlogs ?
Canon 10:18mm is nice for vlogs because of IS. For the EOS M, I'd start with the 7Artisans, I love them:

I install this with firmware 2.0.2 right? also thanks for the great content zeek dude!

What about focus pixels with The 1:3 mode? I cant find any map/file for that resolution?
It's in the description of the previous DNG Workflow Video here:

I've also pinned it in the comment section here.
Hi, can I import MLV files without card reader (for example: from camera, using USB cable and EOS Utility software)? Thanx!

hey Zeek I got heavy flickering in dual iso mode (but only on a few clips only) is it because of low shutterspeed?
I'd avoid dual iso. It needs more development with dual iso timing to avoid colour shift etc..
Hi Zeek, does the EOS M Magic Lantern have clean hdmi out?
You can enable clear overlays and disable global draw to have no information on HDMI Displays.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thank you zeek for the help!
Hi Zeek, thanks for the video. I installed ML, in 1080p I get a pink pixel. It is not present when ML is not used, for example in photo mode. Have you had this issue? Thanks!
You mean like a dropped frame? It shouldn't happen in 1080 mode, you must be set up to 30fps, otherwise your card isn't fast enough.
@@ZeekEOSZ Hi, thank you for your reply. The MLV dead pixel fixes this. I will send you a screenshot and a photo of the lcd while in ML mode.
Great vid zeek! Quick question....which camera is better for photos/stills?? Eos m or gh1?? We all know eos m wins at video 😂
Is the 2.5K FRTP pre-set, 1x3 bining, like the 5K FRTP pre-set ?
The 2.5K is 1:1
I've heard that I can use magic lantern with my M100. Only thing that I want to be able to do is to shoot video continuosly without it cutting out at 29.59min mark. Can magic lantern enable that?
Cheers 😊
For the M Series, only the EOS M & M2. Yep, ML Can enable beyond the 30 Minute limit. I got 100 Minutes the other day, stopping it myself.
I tried uploading magic lantern (version from the site, as the Danne link was giving a 404 ), but it stopped the auto focus and I had a grey display screen after a second or so, although playback footage OK. Is there somewhere to get he latest build? Thanks David

@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks for your advice.
Hi,
good job), how to turn off 5x zoom?
You can't turn off X5 zoom. It enters X5 in the live view to be able to access higher resolution. E.g. 2.5/2.8K
On your build, My field monitor through HDMI is freezing. please let me know how can I fix it?
It's unfortunately the latest build that does this, I have the build in this video on another SD Card for Monitor use, this build works just not the latest:
th-cam.com/video/qZdFMugGb5o/w-d-xo.html
K tried fixing it today, I may have to let the Developers know about this and see what the bug in the latest build.
I saw Zeek, I press like
😎☝️💯
How do you do to really shoot with this camera in 2.8k mode if you can't really see what you get? The on-screen 5x zoom is pretty difficult to manage with...
I show later in this video what I do in those modes:
th-cam.com/video/-Ayz_rlniVk/w-d-xo.html
Focus with live view, record with framing mode enabled, if subject is moving, I use the normal cropped LV.

What’s the best magic lantern build to use
That you have been using please send me link
Of the build your using thanks 🙏🏼

I’m new to the eos m. I have been using the m50 for a while but I bought an eos m yesterday in hopes of using magic lantern on the m and being able to sell the m50. I can’t find the presets, I can’t find crop mode, I can’t find any setting for 4k or 5k, I don’t see any way to change to 14 bit. I downloaded the newest nightly build and my firmware is 2.02. Am I using the wrong build or firmware? Also when I record raw it says frame skipping and stops but I think I can fix that with a faster sd card. I just need to figure out how to find the crop mode and all the settings that you have and then I’ll be great!
My latest settings are in my channel trailer. Builds can be downloaded from the video description, not the ML Website 😎👍
@@ZeekEOSZ thanks man! I got it setup and after grading and adjusting in post I see why the eos m is so amazing and I see why you own a few lol. Goodbye m50 lol

I've looked all over Google but can't find the answer. Ideas??
Thanks as always!
It should appear when you're in the movie icon. Check the modules and see if it has been enabled. Restart camera and check again. Send me a snapshot if you can.
@@ZeekEOSZ I totally found it finally 10 minutes after sending the message. Thanks! I tried to find my message and delete it but YT isn't really set up as a text message platform. haha.
For anyone reading: Zeek's solution is correct. Your camera may have wiped the module settings. Go under the "modules" tab. enable crop_rec, mvl_lite, mvl_snd, raw_twk.
Other potential modules to enable: dual_iso, mlv_play, sd_uhs.
Zeek, what is your PayPal? Every time you answer a question of mine I'm buying you a coffee. Really. The whole reason I have an EOS M2 (and M in the mail from eBay) is because of you 👍🏼 👍🏼
