Perfect timing for me on this one. I have a 6 month old mixed breed puppy and I need to work on myself more to become the leader I need to be to help her

I'm probably wrong, but this video could have been call How to be a Great Parent. I think you are spot on.... it is the same approach I take when training in a horse for free style riding, training bulls for shows and with my dogs. I believe little kids (children) are the same. It could even be called how to be a "Good Person" or how to be loving. Well done.

So true, discipline is for me key. And I learned throughout my life with dogs that the dog also makes me more disciplined because I overcome my inner swine telling and teasing me to relax on the couch much easier because I feel responsible for my dog. Of course I am far from perfect in any way, so I also am not always disciplined and also loose patience sometimes. But again, the responsibility for my dog makes me come out of such mistakes quicker and avoid them more often than it would be the case without a dog.

This is exactly on point. And it made me think a lot about how getting a dog can teach you to be a better person, because you will have to learn discipline, perseverance and patience to raise them. Basically, learn to build character, which can be transposed to basically every single aspect of your life. Not saying you can't learn these without a dog, mind you. But this way you will be accompanied through that road towards being better. And that road never stops!

This is so true! I’m starting a business and because I got a dog I feel my discipline has improved heaps … I have to get up earlier . Even when I was sick with a flu I got up n bright him out to throw the ball with his best buddy. I didn’t realise I had a binge drinking problem n now I simply can’t do that anymore … it’s just not worth being hungover for my dog… he’s more important! Also the patience thing .. I put a lot of pressure on myself expecting him to be perfect or I think he’s overcome going mad swing other dogs until he goes mental seeing other dogs but he’s
    Improving ! Thank you..

Love your videos! I went through training with a Golden and it made me realise that the owner is the key reason a dog is well behaved or not.

Probably your best video to date Will. Very sound advice and I think most experienced dog trainers know this, but unfortunately, from my experience, most 'Covid' era dog owners do NOT.

I just got a 7.5 week old pitbull terrior. So far I’ve been doing a tonnn of research on the best ways to train him. I already ordered KONG toys to help crate train him when I’m at work. I’ve been working on engagement and getting him to pay attention to me. With the crate training I’ve been trying to get him comfortable with going into the crate on his own but he doesn’t like being in there very long. He’s getting his shots soon, then I’m going to work on potty training him outside

I was wondering if my lurcher marking his territory on all our walks is a negative thing? It is the only thing that gets him in to trouble on walk, he is amazing except some poles, or trees make him pull to get to, and I know that that distracts him from following my guidance and direction.
This is an amazing video. I'm proud to say I have discipline when it comes to my boy. I'll get out of bed at the crack of dawn to walk him before I go to work, walk him when I get home aswell. But he is my world! 🙂

How does that work with service dogs, I wonder. I mean the puppies go thru extensive obedience training to become seeing eye dogs but after they are placed they have to learn to make certain decisions for themselves, yes?
I remember reading, a long time ago, about a blind lady whose seeing eye dog decided to take her on a different route because it got bored with the usual way to get from A to B.

And, more usually, sometimes their loving leader is incapacitated and can't make decisions in that moment
      Edit for typo

Hello , I've an English Bulldog he's scared of everything . He's 9 months , so clingy he actually tripped me coming down the stairs .
I'm already recovering from brutal surgery . Falling made me roar in pain and anger .
    Didn't help .

Aren't the dogs bored with that kind of walking? My dog isn't trained well but seems to having more fun
