    I've owned this watch for over a year. I bought it secondhand from a pawnbrokers and have been delighted with the performance and had no issues with visibility or excessive reflections in bright light. The movement maintains an exceptional timekeeping, which more than justifies its existence.

    Just saw one at winners in Saskatchewan for $599. Had a nylon double pin clasp strap and it was in the darker type of olive green. Pretty nice beautiful case back.
    Those ETA movements last 15-20 years before they need service, my Tissot from 2003 had the ETA

      Yea eta movements are reliable and any watchmaker can service them, unfortunately with the new H10 and powermatic 80 movements you pretty much have to go to Swatch group

    Was looking at this watch as my first new automatic mechanical watch, but currently it is $920 for the non-bracelet (bracelet version is $1100) version in Canada. Saw some sales knock it down to $800, but I wasn't willing to spend that much without seeing it in person. I am kicking myself for not going to see a used $500 version being sold locally just as I started my research....
    So instead went with a Seiko 5 SNZG11 for $300 shipped from a grey market seller. I like how it looked, it was thinner then the newer Seiko field watch (11mm vs 13mm) and comes in a nice dark blue dial, and a 43mm case so I can see how I feel about one that large. And man is it a sweet watch, and perfect introduction in the field watch world and automatic watch world. If I throw a nice leather strap on this, instead of the basic (but great color) blue nylon I think I got an amazing deal and watch I won't worry about really wearing everywhere.
    That all being said I'll keep an eye out for a good cheap used Khaki Field Auto at a decent price. Even with the limitation of the reflections everything I have heard is that it is a better watch overall. Or I'll see one in real life in the store and just have to have it new, as it sometimes goes!

    I have this watch on the steel bracelet for well over a year as my daily. It’s been on my wrist cycling, hiking, hunting and at my job. Loses about 4 seconds a day and I love it. For more formal events I throw on a black leather with white stitching strap from Barton straps co. This watch looks amazing on a black strap. A lot of complaints about the lack of AR coating. I use my watch for what it was made for, as an adventure everyday do it all watch and any reflections never prevented me from seeing the time at a glance in the real world. If anything it shows that I have a high quality timepiece.

    I think Hamilton installs non AR crystal on purpose, bc with mirror polished bezel the watch catches more attention and is not really meant to be a field watch but every day for all occasions watch. Interestingly, I wasn’t initially drawn to this watch from photos or videos. I actually went to the store to check out the Murph in 38mm, but the sales associate mentioned they only had the 42mm in stock. They did, however, have a few Khaki Field autos in 38mm and offered to let me try one on. Once I saw it in person, I realized it looked so much better than it does online. I ended up buying it on the spot, and I couldn’t be happier with it.
    Edit: I got it with the Leather strap and it's lowkey very hot garbage, been wearing it with a NATO but I do want to eventually pick up the OEM bracelet.

Still looks amazing. Not too beat up, strap definitely shows a little wear but still nice, like new as far as the dial and crystal goes. Still keeps great time, will take her in for a service soon. I'd take this over a Longines or Seiko if i had to choose one watch. Lack of IR coating can be a little annoying but thats such a minor gripe and can easily be swapped out. Good points. I have owned this watch for 7 months and in my experience the lack of AR is not a problem. High contrast and legible numerals make it easy to read the time and I've never had problem with that. The bracelet... it's awful. Harsh edges, no microadjustment, overall design with double center link. If I knew it I would buy it on a strap and save some money. I paid almost double of what you've paid and I still think that this is good deal, especially that you can save money on that terible bracelet and even more when getting a quartz

    You mentioned a few times that the Seiko field watches are a good alternative for a better price. I actually have one of their field watches and was thinking about trying a khaki field as an upgrade and to try a swiss brand for the first time. Do you notice any quality difference in terms of qc or fit and finish or are you mostly just paying for it to say that it was made in Switzerland and to maybe have better accuracy? I do really like the look of these watches, but I wish they sold the titanium colorways in the steel cases.

    • @NorthernWatchClub
      @NorthernWatchClub  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes fit and finish is better, you get sapphire, solid end links thin case, longer power reserve. But Seiko field watches are pretty great already, if it were me I'd keep the Seiko and get a different kind of watch instead of upgrading in the same category maybe a diver or dress watch?

    • @Slinkylinky179
      @Slinkylinky179 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@NorthernWatchClub I do already have a Seiko diver (golden solar tuna). I got really enthusiastic when buying my first watch of my adult life and decided to buy two and I do really like both. The field I have is the kind that has the flieger type B dial and is already a little dressier anyway (they sell it as "suits style" in Japan), so I figured it wouldn't be too redundant with a more standard field watch with a black or at least non sunburst dial.
      I actually have a hard time with "dressy" things anyway. I really like aesthetics that look good but lean utilitarian or quirky, hence the tuna. I have liked the look of some dress watches ofc, but not so many. I really like the dive watch look, especially the fun shapes of the Seikos. I do plan on getting something like a Turtle further down the line.
      Thank you for the reply and I agree with the sentiment. If the Seiko field was my only watch, I'd probably be looking at a different category first.

I sent it to service and they told me that the dial feet were broken because of shock. Fair to say there was no visible shock, maybe I hit the watch to the table when I was raising my hand (is it shock though?). So this case hasn't been covered by warranty and it cost me another $500. I have owned a Hamilton Khaki field watch (not automatic) for 3 years and it's garbage. The mainspring broke a month before the 2 year warranty expired. The replacement spring broke after 11 months. Out of warranty now. The watch is useless. I also own a 1952 Bulova that has never needed anything but a cleaning and new crystal so I know how to wind a watch. Bought a Seiko 5.
    Shame too, because I loved the look of the Hamilton and it kept good time.

      I got mine for 500 CAD cash with the bracelet second hand. If only I could go a few years back and buy it for that price new! Oh well, it’s my first Swiss watch and still feels like a massive upgrade from my Seiko “DressKX” with the 4R36 movement. The chrome bezel has some minor scratches but I feel like that would happen within a few months of wearing, otherwise the case is pretty clean and I’m quite happy with my decision. (One nice thing about buying it used is that I am less worried about dinging or scratching it lol, makes for a better daily)
      Only nuisance with this model is that damn lack of micro adjusts - I’m going to take it to a watch repair shop to see if two more holes can be drilled because I have the same fitment issue but I really want to wear it with the bracelet! Right now I have it sized slightly too big but it still wears quite nicely.

      @NorthernWatchClub  7 หลายเดือนก่อน
