I'm a regular to the valley. I often in the summer do a stealthy camp at the ruins of Errwood Hall. I can tell you There be Ghosts there. Great Video👍👍
Have lived in the Stockport/Macclesfield area all my life and only yesterday, despite having been aware of Errwood Hall on maps for decades, visited the remains of the house for the first time. Your film is excellently made and is beautifully complimentary to the history of this small part of England and its past glories. Thank you for the trouble you have taken in doing this and all the evident love poured into it and the memories it stands to preserve.
Many thanks, Trussy. That's much appreciated. I've just done another similar video you might enjoy - on the history of Fernilee Reservoir just to the north: th-cam.com/video/Gr88lFjNuG4/w-d-xo.html
Absolutely fabulous - thank you so much. Old enough to remember the remarkable changes that came about in the 1960s - but one forgets so much, so this is a superb reminder. Thank you.
A very nicely done, informative video. I first drove through the Goyt Valley late50s, early 60s. Hardly any cars and I am sure that it was two way traffic. A mini Paradise!
Dear David - Many thanks for your website and videos - I came across by chance, after reading my family history and saw that one had married Samuel Grimshawe II of Errwood Hall. I was amazed to see my great, great grandfather on the page - Grimshawes and Friends. He was the father of Janet (Jessie) who married Samuel Dominic Grimshawe. So now you have his name:) - I did submit this info via the website - anyway thank you so much - hopefully in the near future I will be able to visit the UK and this beautiful part of the country.
I paid a visit to this area today and walked around what little is left of Errwood Hall. It wasn't exactly a planned trip I just love finding interesting looking areas on Google Earth and going exploring them and today I stumbled upon the ruins. It had me scratching my head wondering about it's history. Thank you and what a beautiful area the Goyt Valley is. I'll definately be coming back.
Fantastic video David! Today was my first visit to Errwood ruins and I really wanted to learn more about it. Your excellent visual narrative gave great insight into the place.
Thanks Paul. I'm planning a similar one on Fernilee and the gunpowder mill but it's such a time-consuming brain-ache doing them that I have to work up some serious energy. But I'll get there - eventually! Sign up to my channel if you'd like an email when it's completed.
Thanks for this excellent video. I shared it with the Bollington Facebook page recently and it got a lot of interest. Have walked many times in the area but never knew the history. I'm from Sheffield and remember being fascinated about the flooding of Derwent valley so this has echoes of that
Thanks David. I'm a Peak District photographer based in Hayfield and now work with the National Trust. One of my images of the Hall & Cage is being used on the front cover of their new book about Lyme :) Goyt Valley has always been a favourite place of mine since being a child. I researched the history of Errwood Hall and found the old some pictures on the internet a while ago. But your video helped cement the whole story together in a unique way. Again, excellent work!!

Wonderful video! Very professional. Feels like it should be on tv
Thanks Jonny. Much appreciated.
I agree. Brilliant video. Very clearly spoken and well described. Answered a lot of questions when I went to the errwood hall the other day.

My ancestors lived at goyt bridge, this video is an amazing find, many thanks!
Thanks for the comment. Can you tell me where your ancestors lived and when, and what their family name was?

What is the reason for people leaving flowers and candles just outside of the ruins of the hall, where a big rhododendron plant used to be?
I think someone may have had their ashes scattered here.
Not this time, but if I find any older photos, I will send them to you. Great website, thanks!
Many thanks
It was a young man who took his own life there. His family leave momentos.
