    So good to see this organ in active use ! Back when I still lived up north, there was a whacking big four manual electronic Copeman Hart sat around the corner, and this instrument saw very little use.

    Another really interesting video. Glad that you are better: we have missed you! The Binns tubular-pneumatic action and stops and layout are very similar to St John's Church, Great Yarmouth.

    Yes, you are correct about the vox angelica. A gorgeous combination they are! Thank you for this lovely demonstration.

    Good to see you back, and thank you for this exploration of the Binns organ. Some lovely stops there, especially on the Swell, and lots of opportunities for experimentation with the octave couplers, e.g. Salicet plus Sub-Octave gives you Salicional 8'+4'; Hohl Flute plus Octave gives you Flutes 8'+4'. The Vox Angelica is the one which is tuned slightly sharp or flat. Sounds nice with the Viol d'Orchestre, but as it's basically a dulciana in character it might also work well with the Hohl Flute.

    great videos as always! just to point out that the 4' on the Swell, Salicet, is a string tone stop not flute. Shame there isn't a 2' on this instrument - could really do with brightening up beyond the Oct coupler. Enjoying the videos thoroughly :D

      Yes, you’re quite right about the Salicet - my mistake and thank you for pointing this out. I was still very off colour that day so my brain wasn’t ticking on all cylinders. Thank you for watching and for the nice comments 😊

    Binns Vox Angelicas are quiet strings, to contrast with the keen string of the Viol d'Orchestre. They are not an undulating rank, which would be called a Voix Celestes by Binns (and most other UK organ builders). Confusingly, the Vox Angelica elsewhere is rare but often an undulating stop and would be intended only for use in combination with another stop. Binns are unusual in this regard.

    Glad you're feeling better. Binns did some nice work and their tubular-pneumatic action was always well regarded. I don't get why the chapel went to the expense of a Vox Angelica (used rarely) when for less ££ you could have had a 2ft flute on the Swell which would have been infinitely more useful. I'm guessing the Great mixture was a combination Twelfth & Fifteenth? Love hearing these out-of-the-way organs. Thank you for posting.

      Much better - thank you! And totally agree with your comments. Thanks for watching 😊

    I presume the 2Rank Mixture on the Great will consist of a Twelfth and Fifteenth. It certainly adds the brilliance, otherwise the organ would be somewhat dull in tone. A 2Ft in the Swell would have made a difference but I can’t suggest what could be sacrificed to put one in.

    • @OrganicVisitations
      @OrganicVisitations  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I presume the same regarding the Great Mixture but certainly necessary on this organ. Also agree with your comments regarding a Swell 2’. Thanks for watching 👍

    The Vox Angelica is the alternative name for Vox Celeste.

    • @davidcraggs3770
      @davidcraggs3770 ปีที่แล้ว

      A Vox Angelica is usually tuned flat, whereas a Voix Celeste is tuned sharp to beat with another straight tuned string stop.

  • @TheProsaicCult
    @TheProsaicCult ปีที่แล้ว

    it's a flat pedal board.
