I knew Teddy was going to screw the group up. And, in the 90s being a PK, having 2 siblings with record deals, people from our choir getting deals and still famous today I was really loving this group, def the best Era.
So I guess it's safe to assume that teddy riley had blackstreet signed to a production deal which means teddy get the money and then he pays the rest of the group as he see fit.
Aw, "Girlfriend/Boyfriend" isn't that bad of a song. I give it props for having Janet's best vocals. Overall, The Finally album was a few steps below Another Level, because it was waterdown R&B music. "No Diggity" did more damage than good to Blackstreet as Teddy sold the group out to pop music after winning a Grammy.
Yep That Song With Mary J is A Very Rare Gem and I'm Glad Finally Happy 20 yrs Later We Now Hearing Wh6 She was Talking off the Album.... The Song with K ci on Her Album is Ine of my Favorite So I think Kci was Meant for that Song.

I remember when the "Finally" album dropped. I ran out and bought it. I was so disappointed. The album felt thrown together and sounded like a bunch of b-side filler. I only liked "In a Rush" "Drama" and "Hustlers prayer." No big club records. No good singles.
Eric shares the same thoughts and why it flopped. On a side note I've just been connected to Levi Little who wants to share his story. Growing up I had 3 celebrities I always followed, Michael Jackson, Steven Spielberg and Teddy Riley. The last few months hasn't been great hearing stories 😥

Despite the negative things that are being reveal from former associates' perspectives, I still admire Teddy's talent and accomplishments. I love his work and his music shaped my life and inspired many of us. I think fame, the pressure to continue to be an innovative producer, and the need to stay on top...got to him. Blackstreet was too "street" to follow a boyz II men formula. Too me the only group that successful had a balance of "boyz II men formula" and " street flavor" in the 90's was 112...and Dru Hill.
I personally liked the girl who ended up on the song. I don't think Mary would have added anything to the song but her name recognition. It is like the two versions of Tonight's the night. One with Tammy Lucas and one with SWV. Most ppl prefer the Tammy Lucas version. Adding a big name doesn't always guarantee the songs success.

I went to the Home Again concert. BlackStreet did not have a big set (New Edition did). I could be wrong, but in my opinion, I think Teddy Riley stole the money. BlackStreet fell apart after Mark Middleton left, btw.

They may have had special guest appearances by Queen Pen and Dre, but their on stage production didn't seem to be too over the top. Keith Sweat was on that tour...and had the same type of show. What I had was a platform and experience interviewing friends and family which made it possible to get his interview (with networking help on IG). You can easily do the same thing if it's something that you want to do I'm connected with Teddy Riley on IG and shared messages but I'll wait until the summer to request an interview with him and focus on the Music.
This is a situation of Hurt people hurting people. Teddy has been doing what he's been taught to do by the industry, but he's burnt many bridges along the way. We're fans of his music, but he has proven to not be a very good person and untrustworthy. Not only that, but if you follow him on his instagram, he's constantly posting factually disproven conspiracy theories and propaganda. It's unfortunate that as much of a fan of his I am... I don't particularly like him as a person.

You know producers go through that phase where the sound changes and they get stuck. By that time Bad Boy and So so def was ruling the airwaves with a very sample heavy sound, and i think Teddy started to copy that, and believe it or not that kinda disappointed me cause here he is known for being innovative because of new jack swing and now he follows Puffy and Jermaine Dupri’s sample driven production. To me it was weird, but that just my opinion. i mean, He always sampled..but he use to use pieces of break beats, James Brown sounds, and orchestral hits, but it was most keyboard driven compositions.
