  • Grandmaster Var Akobian teaches the kids four obscure (but important) openings when the Queen's pawn is pushed. Learn the Baltic Defense, Albin Countergambit, Dutch Defence, and the Englund Gambit.
    D06 Queen's Gambit Declined, Grau (Sahovic) defence
    D08 Queen's Gambit Declined, Albin counter-gambit
    A80 Dutch
    A40 Queen's pawn, Charlick (Englund) gambit

    So awesome! :) I might not be exactly a kid, but a lecture like this seems almost custom made to my needs: too lazy to study books, too short of master-game databases and opening explorers to check out the lines (... and too lazy and noob to analyse and draw my own conclusions anyway ;)). And yet, let them say what they might, you just can't get around in chess without at least a little bit of opening theory and awareness of what's good and what's bad in the opening you go for. Plus, I'm a d4-player, so -- how could anything better than this come to me in the beginning of the year? :D

    Excellent video, very informative. One question comes to mind: how is white supposed to proceed if black decides to go d5 at any point after 4 Nxe4 in the Dutch? I'm assuming the white knight just goes to g3 in most of the time but if that's the case then I wonder how white is supposed to be better..

    • @simonenoli4418
      @simonenoli4418 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      5 Bg5 anyway. no time to capture the knight cause the queen is hit.
      if 5 ...Nf6?? then 6 NxN+! and there black has a great disadvantage with perfect play (if 6...g7xN?? then 7 Qh5+! followed by 7 ...Ke7 (7...Kd7 loses the queen to 8 Bxf6+! Kxf6 9 Qh4+)
      if 5... Be7 you can swap and play Nc3 then castle queenside and make the pawn run as black is underdeveloped and will have to catch up to avoid being steamrolled.
      at least id play this.

      MightyGoldenBoy These kids are probably around the 1000-1200s so its perfectly fine I think. Nothing too hard to grasp. He even starts off assuming they know the slav, nimzo indian, kings indian, qgd, so they are obviously not total beginners. Just a bit immature, but cmon theyre like 10 :)

    • @RussellJamison
      @RussellJamison 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm thinking that perhaps there is a mix of kids. Most of them might be beginners who are just there to play each other chess after the lecture is over, but then there might be a few advanced kids who take the game more seriously, and that is who Akobian decided to gear the lecture towards.
