Update:
We got some questions on the soldering process. In 03:25 and 04:13 when install the flex cable (or we say brown cable, ribbon cable, FPC ribbon..), we noted "if you don't want to remap TP button, you don't need to soldering in this step", this means you still have to attach the flex cable and then get it connected with the remap board (the green board).
In 06:25, we noted "if you don't want to remap L3/R3 buttons, please cut off L3/R3 wires and skip this to next step", you can still keep the L3/R3 wires, just cover the contact point at the end of the wires with the electrical tape to avoid short circuit.

Motor controls electrician here. Just bought and installed the Dawn and I love it. Quick couple of notes that should be added to the description.
Almost any soldering tool will work. I have a 25W one and it reaches 600°F easy. I use a 60/40 lead free solder, .75mm thick (0.05"), and if your solder is a rosin compound you don't need flux, but it can't hurt either.
Do you have to use the touch sensor or can I just rip it and use the button method
Just installed one and it works great! The soldering is very fiddly to get right so take your time preparing and follow this video as closely as you can, being sure to apply as little heat and solder as you possibly can using a nice, thin iron tip so you don't cook the board. It's definitely not as easy as just buying a Scuf, but I'm really happy with how mine turned out and really glad I don't have to pay $150+ to get something like this. Now I've just got to relearn my games with all these extra buttons!

Naqi Suhaimi no i think of you want to remap touchpad, L3 & R3 you will need to do soldering but i didn’t need the wires so i cut them off.
I just installed this, it did take some time to actually get everything closed again. Just take your time with this mod and it will be a breeze. This video was a helpful reference as well.
Agreed. As long as you err on the side of the remapper's components rather than the dualshock, then you're gonna have a damn fine "pro elite" playstation controller at a fraction of the cost. I've been searching for an opportunity to do this for a good year or so now, and no one has come anywhere close to realizing this task like extremerate has with this kit. They f@#$in' nailed it.
I feel like they're trollin' hard, tho, with the selection they launched with, tho. At least they scrambled and got the kit in this video out in the wild finally, but why it wasn't available with the other 4 from the start is beyond all reasonable logic except trolling.

can you make a video without the soldering process? I think i speak for others when I say im a bit confused when you say to just skip it because I dont understand how the controller will communicate with the back buttons without the solder. My understanding is I wont need the brown cable and the two extra wires on the remap board.
Skip all the soldering process means you just don't need to solder, but all the other process have to be done, included the brown cable (flex cable) have to be attached. The brown cable is for the communication between the controller and the remap board.

@@elbowsyoutub In case you want the touchpad button can be remapped, you need to solder in this step, otherwise you don't need to solder. But you still need to place the flex cable on the mainboard as the video shown, you can use a double side tape to make it stay (as 03:40 shown)
@@elbowsyoutub that step is to allow the touchpad to be remapped. a solderless installation is possible but you wont be able to remap r3 l3 and touchpad. the ribbon will be kept in place with the double sided tape and the plastic inserts that will lock it to the board.
Bought it in 2019 to play Rocket League. Real easy to install and still works like a charm.

This is a great kit. The only issue is that no one places their fingers where the buttons go. If you were to redesign the placement of these buttons, so many more people would buy them

to make soldering easier I lined up the cable by putting 2 toothpicks in the holes
I built it in my controller and need to say its amazing. You need to be careful and exact but its not really difficult to install the remap kit. One complain I have is, that the paddles could have been placed better but its okay like this. In summary you can built a good and cheap programable scuf controller with it 👌🏻

2020 noch gekauft klappt alles perfekt hatte Angst das ich das nicht schaffe aber jeder der ein wenig Geschick hat Schaft das und wenn nicht sind auch nur 30€ für das Kit und 30-40€ für eine gebrauchten Controller alles zusammen 60-70€ für eine DIY scuf das ist mal eine Ansage ist einfach ein Upgrade das jeder haben sollte danke nochmal aus Österreich 🇦🇹

This is better than the new back button attachment as long as you can handle the setup. Might not have as many features as a scuf (Trigger stops), but I really can see this lasting longer. The quality is great and they use 4 large click buttons. The click pressure is right where you would want it. You even get 2 spares click buttons in-case you ever have problems and 4 extra back button face caps. You can even remap with touch! Mine is perfect, literally. All for the grand price of $35. (+ Low optional Faceplate price too) I recommend it fully. Thank you guys!

Great product. I haven't bought it yet but I used to install my own buttons on PS3 you can see on my profile. This is a great kit and would take me so much less time. Great product guys.
I'm SO glad I did this. I do electronics work for a living so the installation was easy. The full color instructions were amazing but seemed out of sequence. Worked as advertised! I just wish I had gotten the Green back piece rather than red, but I use a silicone slip cover to bulk up the controller a little...(big hands) I had to modify the slip cover to accommodate the buttons. I do have an issue when I lay my controller on my lap it will activate the touch sensor and go into remap mode, I just have to remember to set it on the table instead. 💯% satisfied. Although..the ability to remap the options button to the rear would be great. With big hands, come big fingers..PUBG I hit the map more than my inventory.

I’ve done multiple back buttons DIY for my ps5 controllers from extreme rate but for some reason on the PS4 controller my controller won’t even turn on I’ll plug it into my charging port and the light comes up but when I try the ps button nothing happens … can someone help me with this issue. ?
I bought this and I’m excited for it to come it, do you know if I can use this still with my strike pack to get 6 buttons? I have been using the strike pack before I came across this product and it would be amazing if they worked together

Idk how the strikepack would even fit over the controller anymore lol. I have the ps back button and the strikepack though so if there's some way it fits I could test it I guess haha
What thickness of bouble sided tape for the FPC cable (@3:40) this seems like an important piece of info I cant find with you guys

I just got mine in! I’ve been a good boy all day long, took family out to the beach and now heading home for the night.... can’t wait to get home and get started!!! Does anyone know what’s the BEST map for COD Modern Warfare! (So I can at least keep up with my 14 year old.... what buttons to map 🤷🏻♂️)
I would suggest remapping jump, melee & crouch, then you have one spare that you could use for reload or ping (or whatever you find useful). If you haven't soldered I think you may not be able to remap both melee and crouch as I believe all the COD presets have one of those as R3 - I haven't tested that but will check this week.
I checked... I use the default preset with X (jump) mapped to K4 and O (crouch) mapped to K2. This makes slide cancelling, drop shots and jumping while shooting quite easy. K1 and K3 I don't have anything but it could make sense to map ping and reload to these.

@@francescoluzzi2519 Hi! Yes, that's exactly what I do. I think it would be ideal to solder but I'm quite happy using R3 for Melee. I found that only K2 and K4 are comfortable for me to use anyway. You could maybe try without soldering first. Good luck! See you in the gulag!

just installed it today, works pretty well except my finger sometimes activates the touch remap button. will probabaly open it up again and uninstall the touch sensor sticker thingy and just use the button combo for remapping. a pretty awesome solution to get back buttons while still maintaining the solid feel of the official ps controllers. ive tried a scuff before and i definitely enjoy this result more than scuffs

Everything works great, it’s actually really easy and unless you literally place the flex really bad, everything works great
However, I’d recommend a new design for the back shell since the back buttons are too close from each other and feels uncomfortable for other kind of players, you can only press one at the time on each side only with you middle finger, you could try to separate them a little more to have a more natural feeling and to be able to press the buttons not only with your middle finger but also with you ring finger, this way players could use 4 fingers (if they want) to press each button individually and at the same time. In competitive games like Fortnite it’s important to react fast and be able to do different things in order, quickly and almost immediately or even at the same time. For those wondering, this kit does not affect input lag in your controller and the back buttons are really responsive, before installation my controller input delay was of 0.5ms (measured with DS4 Windows) and after I installed the remap kit was the same (0.5ms), and after 2 weeks of playing I didn’t feel any delay playing, every action happens as how it should be
On the other hand, as I said, everything is great, the back buttons feels really premium

I've just finished off the video for the v3 kit, it'll suit people who want 4 buttons and a little bigger control pad like the Xbox. Personally I'll only ever use 2 buttons but my friends use 4, I guess everybody is different :-)

I bought the decade and love it. A favorite feature is the accent rings. I think anyone into fps gets the unusual wear in the shell from left joystick. And problem solved being able to change them before replacing controller. I think if you could add that option to the dawn it would be great feature. Either way still great product!

Check out hex gaming it is extremerate co. Or affiliate. You can get fully assembled kit there. They provide PS brand controller so you don't have to use yours. If you do that I rec the clicky hair triggers that way you have a back up for racing games etc.

I’ve done same as the video shown the controller was working but some buttons was not working i try to remove the orange cable and put it back it works normally but when i put the orange cable most buttons doesn’t work i dont know why .. even though i put double side tape but same issue ..!
I think its from the ribbon cable it’s damaged where i can get a replacement for it?

Please make sure the double side tape was not cover any contact points between the controller PCB board and the FPC

Big Disclaimer: I bought it and returned it because it has ghosting on the back buttons which means you can only press one of the back buttons at a time, for example if you jump with one and lets say build with another in fortnite only one will register even if you press both, it's really annoying!
Did you played on PC?
I've experienced nothing like this on mine. I can activate multiple buttons at the same time. It could be with the way you installed it or something faulty with maybe the flux cable or the remap chip. I even used it on not only pc but on mobile too where it works great with no problems for myself
@@ShatterinSpider I think the problem is on the PC or its USB port. We have a customer tried to install 2 kits on 2 controllers and test on the same laptop, he has the same issue.

This is an easy product to install an works great. Best 30 bucks I have spent. I need the scuff like Advantage without having scuff money.... An if you dont want to use L3, R3, an center map buttons, this kit is just plug an play. An thats perfect for me... Another nice feature is if you top analogs wear out, well just buy another controller an swap out bottoms. Easy, simple an works great. 10 out of 10 stars is my rating. The best part is once you get these buttons programed how you want them you wont have to take your thumbs off the analogs sticks. Major advantage when it comes to shooter games. Well I hope my review helps you decide where your going to spend your money. I ordered mine off amazon an it was at my house in 3 days with free deliver. Got mine around 2 months ago from Amazon, I love it, the design makes it really easy to use the back buttons.
Sadly my paint already started to go off on the top below the charging port, I got the white version, and now have a small brown line were the paint was.
Would be awesome if you could improve the paint somehow. Controller was not heavy used btw

i have done this mod. it feels solid only the right buttons are easy accidently pushed :D But overall good work!

are the paddles actually very responsive? cause I own 2 scufs both paddles stopped working after 3 months so I switched to the sony paddle that you can add in the back of the controller but they're not very responsive as I'm too quick pressing the back buttons even tho I didn't have any problems with the scuf, so I was wondering if these paddles were responsive like the scuf paddles

I think its probably best to just cut the touch foil off and use the button combo because I've read reviews where the foil will go off mid game because the controller heats up or the foil is on their lap

@@ExtremeRate haha i was gonna make it for a friend, i play claw. only thing i would like you improve on is the quality of the plastic, i have the splatter grip, if it isnt soft touch it can be a little slippery. other than that it seems awesome!

I have the carbon fiber kit from launch, and have installed a variety of extremeRate's assortment of front shell's, and the first thing i noticed when I started assembling was the Soft-Touch material. Like... All I can say, is they nailed it here. It's crowded af as far as the guts in the ds4, which can quickly become frustrating, w/o question, but the end result is an actual dualshock controller with 4 remappable switches for each one of your birds. So good.
The blue light to program turns on on its own after soldering joy sticks, it also turns green when i click on of the analogue sticks

I have a very important question about your soldering. What kind of solder wire materia do you guys used? There's many different solder wire on the market. PS's dev recommend 60-40 watt but I want the best quality solder wire and not some cheap solder quality that isn't reliable. I know you guys are third party but please tell me what you guys recommend if I want to buy this DIY product for my L3 & R3 remapping. 🙏🙏🙏 Please, I need more info how effective it is.

I believe you guys would get alot more sales if you make a video showing the installation without soldering. Im on the fence about getting this because I dont have a soldering iron. I know in the vid it says to skip the soldering but its a bit confusing.

I've just installed this mod on my Dualshock 4, and I'm having two issues with it. First, I'm seeing the issue that others have seen where my controller randomly enters remap mode, but the troubleshooting steps on your FAQ didn't work for me. I tried cutting off the touch sensor, covering its lead on the PCB in electrical tape, and even removing the solder from the lead, and the controller still does this. Second (and less major), the LED on the back does not light up when the controller is in remap mode. It does when I make or cancel a mapping to a back button, but the LED then turns off instead of staying on. As such, I have no way of knowing at a glance if I'm in remapping mode or not. Do you have any other troubleshooting steps I could try?
Hello. I installed the remap kit for the ps4 without the soldering. I have a problem where my blue led light (remap feature) auto turns on randomly during gameplay which causes the paddles to stop working. How can i stop this from happening. I reset control several times too. No change. Your help is greatly appreciated asap pls. Thank u 👍
Hi, this issue caused by accidentally active the touch sensor. If it keeps happening, you can open up the controller and cut off the touch sensing foil of the remap kit with its wire. And after that you have to use buttons combo to enter/exit the setting mode.

Installed this earlier today, works just as expected and I'm happy for it.
My one issue is it will go into remap mode due to the normal resting position for my finger being where the touch sensor was installed. Is it ok to just cut it if I'm fine with entering remap mode via the button combination?

It has just came in the post today, it seemed simple enough to install it all and I did so without fail and without a soldering kit, it wasn't till I turned it on some of my buttons on my controller don't work (I figured when trying to set it up). I used glue to stick the orange plastic to the board, has that got anything to do with it or is there a specific reason why some of my buttons don't work, did I put it together incorrectly?
What kind of scotch tape are you using at 3:48? Is it included in the kit or no?

I have a question before buying! When you remap your buttons and then your done playing and you shutdown your console and controller all the way...next time when you power it up and start the game..do you need to remap it again or is it saved and ready to again instantly ?? Thanks in advance!
You don't need to set up again, the setting will be saved in the kit instantly
Kudos for the video.. dont have a PS4 only an Xbox X so not relevant for moir, but it is a huge plus with such a video in DIY stuff..

I bought this and the clicky kit, it has not arrived yet. Is there anything I should know before installing both? Like in which order should I install the kits?
After the installation do you have to do the whole remap button assignment or can you just do that ingame? Like when youre in the games controller configuration settings can you just click the back buttons and those are recognized by the game? Or do you need to do the remap?
You have to enter the remap setting mode to assign the buttons you want to map to any back buttons.

I do not want to blow money on a solderer and because of the Coronavirus situation I cannot go to my schools soldering machine for coursework. I am 13 btw and I have modded lots of things like replacing shells, modding your LED kit on my controller etc.
@@vault1230 Hi, if you don't need the L3 R3 and touchpad button to be mapped, then you don't need the soldering. But our this remap kit can only work with our Gen 2 LED kit(DTFS www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YW76YXL/). hello, I don't know if you have been asked this question.
I have completely assembled my controller and when it comes to its operation there are keys that do not work, for example right now I have the R1, R2 and square that do not work.
I have reopened the controller and repositioned the flex cable in case it was making mass but now the buttons that do not work are L1, L2 and any button (X, square, O and triangle).
Can you help me?
It still the problem from the orange flex. Please re-align it again and after that please fix the screw on the controller mainboard firm enough. my advice is just solder the damn thing its way easier than it looks and youll have full functionallity i did however moved the touch sensor up a bit to the middle of the controller . under the board because i had a few accidental remap mode activations in between matches.
my overall rating is a 9 on scale 10 and the only 1 minus point is that there is so much choice in colors for the back i just couldnt decide so i went for carbon

I accidentally pinched one of the wires that control one of the vibrators so it kept vibrating luckily the wire had minimal damage and I just moved it aside and everything's fine now.
Review: I was honestly worried nothing would work while I was reassembling but everything seems to be working fine I was able to program the buttons. First impression great mod now I just need to get used to actually using the buttons. Lol

I use touch pad for most of my games and just wondering if it works with this. I won’t remap it but if it’s not functional with this I won’t be able to get this product. I guess I’m confused by your website and it not really being explained in this video. Hopefully it’s still functional so I can get this.
I’ve been trying to figure this out for hours. It was working fine and then the controller stopped connecting to my ps4. I think the ribbon cable broke, any way you guys can help?

I had to take the unit out and revert back to the normal controller function and it works fine, I’m not sure if I did a step wrong but whatever renders the connection to the buttons (d pad, x, triangle, circle, square) doesn’t work. The analog sticks and options buttons work fine however

i installed it and it worked fine but i kept entering remap mode so i cut the thinfoil off with a bit of the wirre than it started blinking in and out of remap mode so i solderd it of completely its still going in and out of remap mode what should i do??
Do you mean you cut off the touch sensing foil with its wire completely?
@@ExtremeRate in the end yes but i first cut the thinfoil of with half of its wire. Now the thinfoil is solderd of with the whole wire and its blinking in and out of remap mode.

So if I want to keep the touchpad were it is I don’t need to solder? But I still have to obviously attach the other but I am just trying to get an idea because my birthday is 10 days away and I want to buy it for my self I just don’t know how to like leave the touch pad where it is
If you don't need the touchpad button to be mapped to the back buttons, you just skip the soldering process, but all the other components still need to install

Hello, the problem caused by the touch sense foil, you can cut the touch tin foil out from the board (include its wire), then the problem will gone, but after that you have to enter the program mode by using the mix buttons' way (L1+R1+down+X).

I really want to unassign my R3 click as I accidentally push it down while trying to suddenly turn in a fire fight.. is it possible to assign it to a back button and unassign it's original right stick click so the click would not be functional anymore??

@sirjones357 use the ps4 menu. Go to settings, accessibility and button assignments. Assign R3 to a different button. I use right on the dpad but you might choose a different button depending on the game. Then you can map a back button to whatever button you selected and now the back button will be R3

No, I just set mine up no double-sided tape but it's not that big a deal I just folded regular tape over itself and it works fine
Double sided tape is not necessary and it's very easy to get one, so it does not come with the kit.

It sure would be wonderful if you guys had different back buttons to choose from! I’ve detached all the gray buttons and just put small pieces of electrical tape over the interior yellow buttons and it works beautifully. Other than that the kit is absolutely excellent. I did one for myself and one for a buddy. Well done extremerate!

Hi, when you say the light doesn't turn on, do you mean the light bar of the controller? Or the light of the kit?

If you don't solder, only L3 R3 and touchpad button can not be mapped to the paddles but the other 12 buttons can be mapped.
One question when u soulder the point for the touchpad does the solder touch the edge of the button?
