This is how Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley chose to respond to statements made by Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar during a Political Meeting on Thursday evening in which she allegedly referenced the Prime Minister by using the word "black."

Black and proud is just a phrase of convenience, if it was a reality fairness creams/bleaching creams would not be selling like hot bread all across India, Africa and the Caribbean. Let's be honest with ourselves. Most, if not all of us humans not happy with how God made us.
Michelle Ramdass I don’t think it’s a phrase of convenience. Most people who say it do mean it. The ones who are not happy with their race usually don’t say it. Also trying to change your appearance sometimes has nothing to do with the hatred of your race or skin but the societal pressures one feels. For instance for a long time natural hair within the black community was looked down on especially in the work place so women felt they had to relax their hair just to fit in or be accepted even though they themselves had no issue with their hair. Sometimes the same goes with the lightening of the skin especially in the entertainment industry. If darker skin was viewed just a favorable as lighter skin I’m sure many would not resort to those measures. It’s only now people are pushing back and saying this is who I am and recognizing that their are many types of beauty, races and faces in the world not just the few that we continuously forced to accept.

I would like to comment on the racist madness that is taking place in Trinidad. The history of our country is important to know. The Africans were brought here against their will and enslaved. After the abolition of slavery the East Indians came as indentured labourers because they were looking for a better life than what they were experiencing in the mother country. Please love each other because you both developed the country. And have some empathy for the Venezuelans who are leaving their country to find a better life in Trinidad, just like millions of us from all over the world do when we are unable to live a good life. Love one another and stop being so hateful and ignorant. The colour of your skin is similar just different shades and even that does not determine who you are, your character is what determines who you are. Your religion is supposed to help you be better persons so wake up your consciousness to being good citizens and proud of your country.
