A great video again. I love the way you pronounced my name! Very good Dutch!!!!!! As for your question: Sometimes I do partner exercises instead of the warming up. Mostly I do the warming up for 15 minutes. I have done this for 30 years. After the warming up I mostly start with a kokyunage. The uke takes ushiro ukemi.

Hah! Glad to hear that I did well on the pronunciation! 😇
In my own dojo, I do traditional Aikido warm-ups and then 99% of the time, the first technique of the class is suwari waza shomen uchi Ikkyo. Except for one person, my oldest student in Los Angeles is about 41 years old. The rest are all in their 20s and up to mid 30s. So everyone’s knees are OK. Starting off in suwari waza gives people a great stretch in the hamstrings and glutes if the knees are healthy. Also, it’s not as far to fall.
But I almost never start this way when I teach at seminars because there are so many people with trouble.

hah. Yes. And I want them to keep those knees healthy by regularly going suwari waza.
