yeah, I tried looking again this year. same costs as when I got a used evo8 in 07'. but now fewer of them, waaay more modified ones you can't smog & getting OE parts is tougher with less dealers in the states now (online & aftermarket support is strong). this year I got an 06' 350z enthusiast for 6k OTD. short term finance even, will pay off quick, fun enough to drive. sometimes you gotta step back for perspective & see if it makes sense (which it doesn't) cars are a loosing investment over time/miles.

Though at 700whp it's needing a new clutch and trans refresh. That's just one thing among the maintinence like you said. Spend probably $200 every couple months on oil, plugs, fluids...etc.

08:55, forget the rev counter! My Beetle Type 1s had none.. You can tell if a clutch is good if an engine stalls when attempting to move from rest with second gear engaged. If it doesn't stall when engaged in third gear, the clutch is 'definitely' worn and needs immediate replacement.

Insurance !!! I bought an X when I was about 40, and it ended up costing me about $60 per month to insure, but about half the insurers I approached wouldn't even quote for any type of Evo. And you're right bro, they're total money pits!

I actually work at a Mitsubishi dealer right now Art Moran. The biggest issue with these cars is the transmission and drive train, specifically the front differential witch is a viscous differential meaning you cannot fix it have to buy a whole new one if it breaks. When it does it usually also means you have to do a AYC pump as well (pumps fluid into limited slip diffs to allow the awd system to change wheel speeds, technically these are transmissions because they do slip in and out using the AYC pump like a automatic trans would but do not completely slip out as all it does is change the speeds of all 4 wheels to allow maximum attack). Many cars we resell that are evos have been boosted and abused and usually in a mileage between 40,000-60,000 and we end up doing $10,000
worthof repairs. The manuals need a new clutch every 15,000 along with trans flush, automatic trans only last 60,000-80,000 that's if you do the trans flush every 15,000 and then they blow up. Do not push over 500hp on any evo unless you spend the money on the clutch, trans, diffs, and upgraded ayc pump. The better parts of the cars are the engines fyou want to make power, spend the money on the drive line or just keep it stock. Most of the stuff ive learned is from being a tech assist with both of the Techs there doing electrical and heavy tech work. Best bets for anyone wanting an evo BUY AN EVO 8 AND REBUILD IT

I’d like an evo, but my next car in a year after I pay off my wife’s Toyota Sequoia is a Lexus GSF. Had to down 30K, but it’s for her and the kids.

Kids are overrated and money pits! Jk. I gotta do school drop offs in style when my wife can’t. And drive my boss in style to lunch when he’s in town. But my wife has “ok’d” me to get a 2g DsM so I’m hunting for one.

Can't afford an Evo but I've been looking at a 2g Eclipse since it's been a car that I've always wanted which is basically a 2-door Evo.

Been thinking about buying an evo ether a 8,9 or even a X there not super expensive around here they normally go for $12000-$22.000 here.... but if that doesn't work out I'm going for a 2g gsx or tsi to add to my collection 😁

Lol even if my evo ran perfectly I would not let anyone test my car the way you recommended. Floors car bangs third tries to floor 5th.. Car ran perfect and then noob says nvm I don't want it lol slaps noob. Now I have to find a place to dispose of dead noob in my trunk.

I’m so happy I sold my evo. It was built by STM. Which is a very reputable shop, and it was problem after fucking problem.

If its modified, ask the seller who the tuner is. I got lucky when I was dealing with this kid... called the tuner and they told me "don't buy it" he abuses the shit outta the car. Tuners are generally honest people from personal experiences.
