That's the million dollar question! You need to come into the exam with a list or understanding of issue that might be raised. I recommend a check-list approach: as you read the fact pattern, put a check next to the issues that you recognize in the fact pattern. As to developing your issue list, it will obviously vary based on your class and your professor, but as a starting point consider how your casebook is organized. Generally, casebooks focus students on one or two issues at a time. You can use that organization to generate your issue list.
